The 16th IDET International Defense and Security Technology Fair confirmed its position as one of the most important shows in Central Europe and NATO countries. In conjunction with related pyros fire technology fairs and ISET safety technology, it was a comprehensive presentation of the components of the Integrated Rescue System and their suppliers. A total of 496 exhibiting companies from 27 countries participated, whose expositions were viewed by over 24,000 mostly professional visitors from the Czech Republic and abroad.
IDET 2021 was held in standard version at the level of recent years. The world continues to face complex security challenges that require investment in strengthening defenses, which has been reflected in the scale and quality of the trade fair offer. The excellent level of IDET 2021 was appreciated by VIP guests, exhibitors and numerous visitors. Everyone enjoyed the on-site event, the possibility of a face-to-face face-to-face meeting and a pleasant atmosphere.
“Enough videoconferencing. I am glad that the fair can take place on a full-time event, even though it was notcertain at all until a few months ago, ” said Jiří Kuliš, Managing Director of Trade FairsBrno. “As a citizen, I feel very safe. I believe that this year will contribute to better equipment for the security forces so that we can feel even safer,” the CEO continued in his speech. Defence Minister Lubomir Metnarwas also satisfied, saying in his opening speech: ” I am pleased that the entire exhibitionarea is full and presents almost 500 domestic and foreign exhibitors. That is why we regularly participate in the IDET trade fair. It’s an ideal opportunity to get to know new technology projects that certainly include artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, and space technology.”
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade and Minister of Transport Karel Havlíček, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jakub Kulhánek and Minister of Defence of Hungary Tibor Benkö also attended the opening ceremony. Vip guests of the fairs also included The Minister of Defence of Slovakia Jaroslav Naď, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Slovakia Marian Majer, members of the Defence Committee and the Committee on Security of the PSP CR, Chiefs of the General Staff of the Czech Republic and Slovakia Aleš Opata and Daniel Zmeko, Chief of the Military Office of the President of the Republic Jan Kaše, Director General of the EIG CR Vladimír Vlček or Rector of the University of Defence Zuzana Kročová.
At the invitation of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic and the Company Trade Fairs Brno IDET 2021, members of official delegations from interest territories and representatives of foreign armies from 31 countries (Brazil, Burkina Faso, China, Egypt, Philippines, France, Italy, India, Iran, Israel, South Africa, Jordan, Canada, Republic of Korea, Hungary, Germany, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Austria, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, USA, United Kingdom, Vietnam). The highlighted country of IDET 2021 was Israel with the official exposition of the Ministry of Defence agency SIBAT, which participated in the fair for the first time. Another prime minister’s attendee was the official participation of the Ministry of Defense of Pakistan.
The fair confirmed the strong position of the Czech defence and security industry, which exports over 90 percent of its production for a long time and in 2020 the value of its exports increased to almost CZK 17 billion (a billion more than in 2019). A memorandum of cooperation between the Czech Export Bank and the Agency for Intergovernmental Defence Cooperation was inaugurated directly at the fair, which was established by the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic to support exports of the domestic defence industry. Among the exhibits of Czech exhibitors, the self-propelling wheeled howitude DITA, presented by EXCALIBUR ARMY in the Czech premiere, attracted interest.
The largest area was occupied by the exposition of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic and the Army of the Czech Republic with the main topics of modernization of the armed forces and 30years since the first foreign operationin which Czech soldiers participated. At the stands of foreign suppliers, visitors could also get acquainted with the latest acquisitions, for which the Ministry of Defence signed contracts just before the fair – Caesar self-propelled howitzers from the French company Nexter Systems and spyder anti-aircraft missile set from the Israeli company Rafael.
The start-up Innovation Pavillion – a joint exhibition of five young innovative companies – premiered. It was organized by the Defence and Security Industry Association to present the high potential of start-up companies and connect them with larger partners. A new theme of this year’s edition was also 3D printing, presenting solutions for printing components for the defense industry, for example from metals or composite materials for the development of prototypes and the production of spare parts.
As part of the professional accompanying programme, the 9th Cybersecurity Conference took place under the responsibility of the Czech branch of AFCEA. The IDET Arena field polygon with dynamic demonstrations of military, firefighting and police equipment has once again become an attractive part of security fairs.
The best exhibits of the fair were awarded three Golden IDET awards and one honorable mention. The expert jury decided on the Golden IDET award for the Titus 6×6 wheeled armored vehicle, which is the result of cooperation between Tatra Defence Vehicle, Tatra Trucks and the French manufacturer of special defense equipment Nexter Systems. The prize went to Retia’s multipurpose 3D radar ReGUARD. The third Gold IDET 2021 belongs to the RCWS MANTIS weapons station from the manufacturer EVPÚ Defence. The jury awarded honorable mention for the innovative product to the T4N hand fire extinguisher with extinguishing extinguishing device 3M Novec 1230 from EAF protect.
The personality of the Association of Defence and Security Industry was also inaugurated at the fair. She became Professor Svatopluk Zeman, a respected scientist in the field of energy materials. On the opening day, Minister Lubomir Metnar awarded the Director General of Trade Fairs Brno Jiří Kuliš a meritorious cross of the Minister of Defence of the Third Degree for his long-term cooperation.
Next year’s IDET, PYROS and ISET trade fairs will take place on a traditional date in may 2023.
