The objective of the panel, which is coordinated by Alisson Moraes, engineer at Sabesp’s New Business and Market Expansion Department, is to discuss ways to finance solid waste management services, considering their financial sustainability, as per article 29 of law 14.026/2020 (New Legal Framework for Sanitation).
The table will be moderated by José Valverde, secretary of state and coordinator of the CIRS – Solid Waste Integration Committee. Speakers will be: Carlos Motta Nunes, specialist in Water Resources at ANA – National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency and responsible for Waste Regulation; Wladimir Antonio Ribeiro, lawyer at the Manesco Advocacia Office, and the mayor of São José dos Campos, Felicio Ramuth.
The coordinator tells how the topic was chosen, the need to discuss the subject and its importance.
“Perhaps the most debated topic at the moment for the implementation of systems for the destination and treatment of urban solid waste is how to finance these systems. Currently, there is a doubt about the guarantee that an investor would have to invest in new ventures focused on this area. Having identified this problem, within the scope of AESabesp, we concluded that this topic was the most important to be debated currently at a round table focused on urban solid waste”, says the engineer.
The coordinator also comments on expectations regarding the debate. “Because of the challenge that the theme of this table imposes, we have highly qualified members for the discussion and we hope that this round table will contribute to the improvement of the investment environment in the systems of collection and treatment of urban solid waste”, he emphasizes.
Alisson Moraes also emphasizes that “Brazil is still a very poor country in the collection and treatment of its urban solid waste”.
