【DE】NürnbergMesse: born in Nuremberg, grew up in Europe, at home in the world

NürnbergMesse is one of the 15 largest exhibition companies in the world. It comprises NürnbergMesse GmbH and its 15 subsidiaries and affiliates. The company employs more than 1,000 people at eleven locations in Germany, Brazil, China, India, Italy, Greece, Austria and the USA. Every year, about 35,000 exhibitors (international share: 44%) and up to 1.5 million visitors (international share of trade visitors: 26%) participate in the own, partner and guest events of the NürnbergMesse Group.

It is the people, their ideas and products, which have made NürnbergMesse a globally successful exhibition company. This success story is at the same time a mandate for action for the future. It is their claim to deliver the decisive impulse for their customers’ business. Because with their events it is particularly their guests from abroad which make a trade fair into a world-leading trade fair in the first place. Every year, about 35,000 exhibitors (international share: 44%) and up to 1.5 million visitors (international share of trade visitors: 26%) participate in the own, partner and guest events staged by the NürnbergMesse Group, which is present with subsidiary companies in China, North America, Brazil, Italy, India and Greece. Worldwide, the NürnbergMesse Group has a network of 45 representative agencies which are active in 103 countries.

The success story of NürnbergMesse

To the top very quickly

Although NürnbergMesse is just 40 years old, its dynamic corporate development is breath-taking and unparalleled. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain no German trade fair company has grown at a faster rate in Germany. In terms of turnover alone there has been a 20-fold increase since 1989. Today, Nuremberg and its exhibition company benefit from the reclaimed central location in Germany and Europe. Worldwide, NürnbergMesse is now among the 15 largest exhibition companies in the world.

NürnbergMesse is founded 1974

Turnover: 2.5 m Euro

Number of employees: 15

NürnbergMesse takes its first steps at its new Langwasser site – in honeycomb-shaped halls. In competition with the “big” exhibition companies, NürnbergMesse plays a minor role at best. The infrastructure is set up intelligently, however: A local underground railway station just outside the door, plenty of parking spaces and good accessibility to motorways offer the company an opportunity to get off to a good start.

The fall of the Berlin Wall and its consequences

1989

Turnover: 15.6 m Euro

Number of employees: over 50

Fifteen years later: The Iron Curtain falls and Nuremberg is suddenly located in the centre of Europe. The traditional trade channels to Central and Eastern Europe are opened, and Nuremberg regains its pivotal role as a trade platform. The recipe for success is as follows: Cooperate with customers and competitors, occupy niche markets professionally and allow themes to grow organically.

The result: In the next 25 years, NürnbergMesse’s turnover is multiplied by a factor of 15 and the company becomes one of the top 10 in Europe in its industry.

NürnbergMesse becomes a congress venue

1997

Turnover: 41.5 m Euro

Number of employees: over 100

Exhibitions and congresses – a combination that works! NürnbergMesse opens the first of what would later become three congress centres. The added value available to customers is a 360° content view which is offered alongside the conventional exhibition part of the business.

In addition, Nuremberg establishes itself as an attractive event city that offers good quality of life as well as successful events. Visitors from abroad in particular see Nuremberg as an exceptional conference location that impresses with its historic old town, extensive range of restaurants and wide variety of cultural events. NürnbergMesse and the Nuremberg Convention and Tourist Office amalgamate in 2011 and develop the umbrella brand “NürnbergConvention”.

NürnbergMesse becomes an international company

2007

Turnover: 125 m Euro

Number of employees: over 250

The push towards “internationalisation”: NürnbergMesse begins to set up subsidiaries around the world and creates a global presence for itself with over 100 international representatives. Today there are subsidiaries in China, North America, Brazil, Italy and India. NürnbergMesse organises events across the planet that complement the portfolio hosted in Nuremberg excellently. The benefits for customers are obvious: They can enter new markets straight away and improve their sales prospects – and get all this at NürnbergMesse’s proven quality standards. And the story goes on …

The new hall, hall 3A

2014

Turnover: 229 m Euro

Number of employees: over 600

Star architect Zaha Hadid from London designs the new jewel of the exhibition venue. Hall 3A impresses customers, exhibitors and trade visitors, and exceeds all expectations in just its first year. The new exhibition hall has a significant effect on NürnbergMesse’s growth and acts as the company’s “turbocharger”. Hall 3A is not only an architectural highlight, but also an excellent example of energy efficiency, and it is the first exhibition in the world to receive the German Sustainable Building Council’s (DGNB) Gold Award because of that.
