The A+A 2021 – leading international trade fair for safety and health at work – came to an end successfully after four days. A total of 1,204 exhibitors from 56 nations and more than 25,000 trade visitors came to Düsseldorf for the most important industry fair. In doing so, the A+A – together with the parallel International Congress on Occupational Safety and Health – once again set an exclamation mark this year for the significantly increased importance of health protection at work.

More than ever, human health is at the center. According to the motto of the A+A, “Man counts” is currently experiencing an enormous increase in importance. In addition to the current developments around innovative protective equipment, the topics of pandemic and hygiene played a central role at A+A 2021. But megatrends such as digitization and sustainability were also among the main topics of this year’s leading trade fair.

The exhibitors were very satisfied with the course of the A+A 2021. 94% already confirm that they will be represented again at A+A 2023. More than 25,000 trade visitors from Germany and other European countries visited the international trade fair and the 37th International Congress for Occupational Safety and Health. They informed themselves about the latest trends in the areas of occupational safety, workplace health promotion and safety management in the company. Significantly over 90% stated that they have achieved their trade fair visit goals and gave a very good overall assessment.

We were very happy to meet the desire of our exhibitors for a platform for personal exchange and product presentations that appeal to all the senses. We are more than satisfied with the outcome of the fair and would like to thank you very much for the trust you have placed in us,” sums up Erhard Wienkamp, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. We are pleased about the successful course of the A+A and the associated positive signal to all industries represented at our trade fairs in Düsseldorf.

The A+A Congress was organized by the Federal Association for Safety and Health at Work (Basi) and this year also streamed into the net in parts. Dr. Christian Felten, Managing Director of Basi, was satisfied with the result of the hybrid congress offer: “We are glad that we were able to welcome our guests and speakers to a face-to-face congress that deserved its name: A four-digit number of participants (about 1500) experienced at the 37th A+A Congress a large number of high-quality contributions and finally exchanged ideas on site again. In the context of the current pandemic conditions, we have focused on essential topics. Important were classic areas such as the exposure to carcinogenic hazardous substances or musculoskeletal diseases caused by work. However, topics such as safe and healthy work in international supply chains, new work, mobile working and problems caused by digitization in the workplace were at the center of the audience’s interest.” According to Dr. Felt psychological stress in the home office, for example. In this context, helpful solutions were presented in Congress. Thanks to the digital possibilities, speakers from all over the world could first be connected. They presented their scientific contributions on occupational safety via screen in Düsseldorf and discussed them with those present.

A+A showed trends of the future

The trade visitors were able to convince themselves of the innovative capacity of the exhibitors present and their solutions for the future, among other things, in the start-up zone. Whether health app, innovative services or high-tech textiles and wearables: The start-ups at A+A 2021 enriched the offer of the leading trade fair with new ideas. Numerous exhibitors and Fraunhofer IPA in and around Robotics Park arranged what the future of work and prevention will look like by means of exoskeletons. At the hands-on stations, trade visitors were able to experience the supporting function of exoskeletons up close in various work situations. These included back-stressing work processes from logistics, assembly activities in overhead positions and workflows from the welding profession in forced positions. In addition, a live study during the A+A 2021 took place with the Exoworkathlon, in which it was scientifically examined to what extent exoskeletons reduce muscle and skeletal stress and increase performance.
