【DE】Final report aquanale and FSB 2021: Successful re-launch of industry platforms

Trade fair duo aquanale and FSB convince with high visitor competence and quality More than 16,000 visitors from 103 countries in Cologne

The trade fair duo aquanale and FSB, which took place on Friday, 29th, showed a dynamic re-start. October 2021 came to an end after a four-day course in Cologne. The two leading international trade fairs for Sauna.Pool.Ambiente and for Freiraum, Sport and Bewegungseinrichtungen were able to provide the impulses hoped for by all trade fair participants for successful industry development. More than 16,000 trade visitors from 103 countries learned about the offer of the 466 exhibiting companies from 45 countries. In sport, one would speak of a convincing performance that all trade fair participants have achieved together. The visitor quality was outstanding and shows that decision-makers need and use the trade fair format,” said Oliver Frese, Managing Director of Koelnmesse. As the first physical industry fairs in two years, aquanale and FSB have set the impulses that everyone needs after the challenging time and thus gave the industries involved the necessary confidence and perspective for the upcoming tasks.

In addition to the very good visitor numbers, the strong international popularity was also convincing – over 61 percent came from abroad. Most visitors traveled to Cologne from the BeNeLux countries, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Ukraine, but also from the Middle East – in particular from Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia – as well as from the USA and Canada.

The high decision-making competence of the visitors contributed significantly to the successful course of the trade fair and to the satisfaction of the exhibiting companies. An initial evaluation of the visitor survey underlines that around two thirds of the respondents are involved in the procurement decision across events, 64 percent of them even decisive or decisive. A good two thirds of the audience was very satisfied with the exhibition offer and around 78 percent with the achievement of their goals. 83 percent would recommend the visit of the aquanale and FSB. More than 70 percent were very satisfied/satisfied with their visit to the fair, especially against the background of the current framework conditions, and around 65 percent of those surveyed are already planning to attend the events in two years.

aquanale 2021:

At aquanale 2021, 176 companies from 28 countries presented the latest products and designs for modern, sustainable and innovative swimming pool and wellness construction. The topics of sustainability, material composition and, of course, energy efficiency played an important role in particular. “Aquanale 2021 was characterized by high visitor quality and competence,” says Dietmar Rogg, President of the Federal Association for Swimming Pool and Wellness (bsw). The exhibitors and visitors I spoke to were consistently satisfied to finally be able to experience “trade fair air” again. Because the industry not only lives its profession, it also lives “its” trade fair platform with enthusiasm. And those who are enthusiastic and inspire others also succeed.” The companies that presented themselves in the Village of the European Waterpark Association and reported on good discussions and business transactions were also satisfied.

The International Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum, organized by the ideal institutions bsw and IAKS (International Association of Sports and Leisure Facilities), also proved its international appeal as a trend, contact and business platform. This year, the four-day forum focused on sustainability and digitization, best practice examples from the IOC IPC IAKS Architecture Awards 2021, development of healthy and sustainable pools, technology & law, the EU Biocidal Products Regulation in practice, secure opening of public swimming pools in the pandemic or also training and further education for swimming masters and technical bath tours.

The awards of the European Union of Swimming Pool and Spa Associations EUSA for 2020 were also presented at aquanale. The most beautiful privately used outdoor and indoor pools as well as whirlpools, spas and pools with canopy and cover were awarded.

FSB 2021:

288 companies from 37 countries participated in FSB 2021 with a comprehensive overview of all products and topics related to free space, play equipment, outdoor fitness, sports equipment, sports floors and stadium infrastructure. The right signal at the right time – the FSB and the IAKS Congress have brought together the relevant actors and revived the so important, personal dialogue. Because decisive on our way to sustainable and climate-friendly sports and leisure facilities are concepts that all actors share and then implement. Only a concerted approach helps us with the upcoming decisions in an environment changed by the pandemic,” summarizes Dr. Stefan Kannewischer, President of the IAKS.

The IAKS Congress, which took place hybrid for the first time this year, once again lived up to its reputation as a global source of ideas for the sports and leisure industry. More than 340 guests and delegations from 34 countries and an additional 85 unique users who connected online took the opportunity to find out about current trends. This year, the IAKS Congress was under the motto “Development of healthy and sustainable communities”. On the evening of the first day of the fair, innovative and sustainable sports and leisure facilities were awarded the IOC IAKS Award 2021 and the IPC IAKS Special Prize for Accessibility. In addition, IOC, IPC and IAKS awarded the “Architecture and Design Award for Students and Young Professionals”. All 30 award-winning works of the IOC IPC IAKS Architecture Awards were shown in a special show at the IAKS booth.

The trade fair appearance of the BSFH, Bundesverband für Spielplatzgeräte- und Freizeitanlagen-Hersteller e.V., was also well attended, which deals in particular with the topics of “Creative schoolyard design – pupils need movement” and “Safety on playgrounds”.

The topic area “STADTundRAUM” also registered great popularity with its workshops, congress topics, the well-known planner forum, the awarding of the German Playroom Prize and an attractive special show on current topics such as open space planning, mobility, urban planning and development.

Decision-makers from clubs, municipalities, politics and stadiums as well as leading companies in the sports facility industry met for exciting discussions in the networking area SPORTNETZWERK.FSB, an initiative of the Koelnmesse and sports facility calculator.

The next aquanale and FSB will take place from 24th to 27th. October 2023.
