【DE】Health start-ups are ready for the exciting finals of two “World Championships” as part of MEDICA 2021

The countdown is on for the restart in the presence format of the world’s leading medical fair MEDICA at the Düsseldorf exhibition center (duration: 15th – 18th November 2021). Among the more than 2,900 exhibitors from a total of 70 nations, there are also many health start-ups for which MEDICA has developed into the central meeting place of the healthcare start-up scene across countries with numerous special program items and a large joint stand. We bring innovators and investors together. More than 40 start-ups participate in the MEDICA START-UP PARK in Hall 12 this time – more than ever before, explains Michael Degen, Executive Director of Messe Düsseldorf. The range of novelties presented here ranges from a device for the non-invasive therapy of nasal pain to an AI-based ultrasound application for the rapid detection of nerve blockages.

No less exciting are the innovations with which the development teams of young companies move into this year’s final at the `13. Healthcare Innovation World Cup (15.11.) and at the `10. MEDICA Start-up COMPETITION (11/16) as highlights of the agenda for the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM. The complete program of the forum (including the award ceasing) can be followed as a live experience at the program stage in Hall 12 as well as a corresponding ticket as a live stream via the industry portal MEDICA.de.

The 10th alone. MEDICA Start-up COMPETITION counted more than 250 applications from all over the world. Health start-ups submitted their solutions for the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), health apps or robotics, among others. Twelve young companies were elected to the final by the jury. For example, the start-up Sympatient has dedicated itself to the digital therapy of anxiety disorders by means of a psychotherapy app. According to their own information, her “Invirto” therapy is the world’s first digital anxiety therapy for patients with agoraphobia, panic disorder or social phobia. Mobile virtual reality technology as well as app-based therapy courses are used for this purpose (incl. Contact with psychotherapists and doctors). `Invirto ́ has already been approved by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) as a digital health application (DiGA) and can therefore be prescribed by the doctor as a benefit of the statutory health insurance fund in Germany.

The artificial hand recognizes the right situation

The bionic “Esper Hand” belongs to the field of robotics. The artificial hand detects situations, helps choose the right grip and has precise muscle activity detection. The team of Esper Bionics from Ukraine will explain this in their final presentation. The Swiss from macu4 rely on orthopedic solutions with 3D printed products. One of her first applications is a passive functional forearm prosthesis for children and adults with a focus on sports and leisure activities – for example, throwing a tennis ball.

The final pitch and the award ceremony of the 10th MEDICA start-up COMPETITION rises on the 16th. November in hall 12 (MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM, booth 12 E35) from 1 pm to 3 pm.

More than 300 applications for `13. Healthcare Innovation World Cup

At `13. Healthcare Innovation World Cup is mainly about innovative devices and smart applications for digital networking and process integration in the sense of the Internet of Medical Things. More than three hundred start-ups have applied for this competition. Among the twelve selected finalists is the Indian Ai Health Highway India Private Limited with `AiSteth ́, a smart stethoscope for the investigation, detection and prediction of heart and lung diseases using artificial intelligence. Cynteract from Germany is also in the final. Your intelligent glove with sensors is intended to support patients at home. Because in combination with coordinated software, the glove can be used for the rehabilitation of finger, hand and arm injuries not only in rehabilitation centers, but also in your own four walls. A software-supported summary of the training data provides clues for further therapy finding.

The final presentations and award ceremony of the `13. Healthcare Innovation World Cup will take place on Monday, 11/15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. – also available on the program stage of the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM and with a corresponding ticket online as a live stream.
