【DE】MEDICA 2021 + COMPAMED 2021: Vital comeback in presence format with many novelties and program highlights

Medical technology business has numerous topics on the agenda and needs direct exchange more urgently than ever

In the coming week, the experts of the international health industry will finally go on a trip to Düsseldorf again. Then the restart in face-to-face format is due for the world-leading medical trade fair MEDICA and COMPAMED, the leading international supplier trade fair. From Monday to Thursday (15th to 18th November), around 3,000 exhibitors at MEDICA 2021 and almost 500 exhibitors at COMPAMED 2021 from a total of 70 nations show their flag in the exhibition halls. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, their tailor-made solutions for modern outpatient and inpatient treatment, increased digitization of care processes and reliable partnerships between providers and suppliers to avoid supply and supply bottlenecks have come into focus more than ever.

The booking numbers encourage and were not yet expected at this level in the spring. With the exception of two halls, the entire exhibition center will be occupied again, whereby we have implemented pandemic-oriented hall planning. The development of the startups is extremely gratifying. They seem to be able to return to normality just as quickly thanks to fast decision-making processes. More than 40 startups, more than ever, participate in the MEDICA START-UP PARK in Hall 12,” Michael Degen, Executive Director of Messe Düsseldorf, knows how to report on a certain spirit of optimism and returning “vitality” in the industry.

The nations, which were traditionally among those with the highest demand for land even before the pandemic, are still strongly represented at MEDICA. After Germany, among other things, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, the USA and other European nations such as B. France, Spain, Great Britain and Poland. The reason for MEDICA’s transnationally emphasized position is illustrated by the US participation Pauline Kao, Consul General of the United States (Consulate General Düsseldorf): ” MEDICA is the world’s most important trade fair for medical devices and the USA is proud to be a strong and consistent partner. For more than 40 years, our exporters of medical devices have come to MEDICA to present new technologies and sell their products on the world market.”

German providers are also relieved that after a pandemic-related purely digital implementation of the event last year, they can finally “start” again in presence format at MEDICA, as Marcus Kuhlmann, Head of Medical Technology at the German Industry Association SPECTARIS, emphasizes: “In order to shape the health market of tomorrow together with innovative ideas and concepts, we need a strong industry network in medical technology. Personal exchange is still irreplaceable, even in times of digital transformation, and is longed for by our members after more than a year and a half pandemic. This makes us all the more pleased to accompany MEDICA and COMPAMED live on site again this year and thus gain new impulses for the medical technology industry.”

Innovations for outpatient and inpatient care

MEDICA’s topic segments are oriented towards the complete needs of outpatient and inpatient care. MEDICA segments are: laboratory technology & diagnostics, electromedicine and medical technology, consumer goods, information and communication technology (digital health) as well as physiotherapy and orthopedic technology. In a suitable addition, the exhibitors at COMPAMED (this time in Halls 13 + 14) take up the entire content range of the supplier market for medical technology: from individual components and components, innovative materials to packaging solutions to high-tech processes such as additive manufacturing or complete contract manufacturing.

This year’s new products include a state-of-the-art robot device (from H-Robotics) for movement training of arm and ankles, which works according to the “e-bike principle”. To strengthen the patient’s activity, it offers exactly only the support in movement that is needed. Thanks to telemedicine software and smartphone connection, the rehabilitation program can also be carried out remotely at home with the device. Meanwhile, the Fraunhofer Project Center SPT presents a process for mass production of stem cells to the world public for the first time. Background: With the help of bred stem cells, new drugs for hitherto incurable diseases such as Alzheimer’s are to be developed in the future. However, this subsequently requires the mass production of stem cells under high industrial quality standards. Rollingpillow from the company of the same name is less about high-tech and yet about a product with a special highlight. This is a novel pillow with roll- rocker device (in a semicircle), which automatically corrects posture during sleep and prevents tension.

Program highlights live on site and on the net

Significant industry trends and topics such as increased demand for digital health solutions or the challenges faced by providers in connection with the new EU Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) are reflected not only in the offer of exhibitors, but also in the programs of the forums and accompanying conferences integrated into the trade fairs. Following the hybrid event concept, the lectures, discussions or award ceremonies of many of these program elements can be followed with corresponding tickets either on site at the forum stages in the exhibition halls and online via live stream via the industry portals MEDICA.de and COMPAMED.de.

This applies, among other things, to the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM (including the MEDICA Start-up COMPETITION and the Healthcare Innovation World Cup), the MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM or the MEDICA LABMED FORUM. COMPAMED includes the COMPAMED HIGH-TECH FORUM by IVAM and the COMPAMED SUPPLIERS FORUM by DeviceMed.

Further program highlights of MEDICA 2021 are the 44th German Hospital Day (as livestream) as well as the English-language conferences DiMiMED and MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE. They bring together the specialist elites of international military and disaster medicine as well as sports medicine and sports science in Düsseldorf.

MEDICA and COMPAMED can be visited on all running days from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 3G principle (“vaccinated, recovered, tested”) applies to access. Ticket purchase is only possible via the online ticket shop.
