In a festive setting, BOOT & FUN BERLIN on Thursday evening, 11. November 2021, the Best of Boats Award (BOB) was awarded. International motorboat novelties were awarded to numerous shipyard bosses and industry representatives in a total of six categories: Best for Beginners, Best for Fishing, Best for Family, Best for Fun and Best for Travel. A “game changer” of the boat industry was awarded the special prize Best for Future for the second time in 2021.
The 16-member BOB jury of international specialist journalists from all over Europe, Russia and the USA had spotted and intensively tested the award candidates throughout Europe in recent months: Despite the pandemic-related difficult conditions, the BOB judges carried out around 250 boat tests in 2021 to select the best boats of 2021. The evaluation of the BOB judges is directly oriented to the needs of various boat users such as beginners, families and fun athletes, which is also reflected in the compilation of practical categories.
Daniel Barkowski, project manager of BOOT & FUN BERLIN, and BOB coordinator Stefan Gerhard, reopened the award ceremony for the first time in front of an audience at hub27 after the successfully conducted virtually live BOB Award 2020.
The Best of Boats Award is considered one of the most important industry events and is, by number of countries and jurors involved, the world’s largest award for motorboats.

And the winner is: The winners of the Best of Boats Award 2021
In the Best for Beginners category, the Axopar 22 Spyder prevailed over the other two strong finalists. Jan Sjölund, editor-in-chief of the Finnish magazine “Venemestari”, presented the award to Johan Holm, Head of Sales of Axopar Boats from Finland. He thanked with the words: “We are overwhelmed that we won this award despite the very strong models of the competitors. The prize is a reward for our hard work on the Axopar 22 Spyder and proves that the team has done an excellent job. The model is not only perfect for beginners – it is also the ideal boat for experienced drivers and thus covers both areas perfectly.”
In the Best for Fishing category, the jury chose the Quicksilver 705 Pilothouse, a suitable model for fans of both marine and inland fishing. Alexis Flechier, Global Sales Director of the Venture Boat Group from the USA, accepted the prize presented by Stanislaw Iwinski, editor-in-chief of the Polish online magazine Yachtsmen. It is a special honor to be awarded this prize by the international trade press – and for the second time in a row. With Quicksilver, we are further developing the pilothouse series, explained Alexis Flechier.
Kerstin Zillmer, editor-in-chief of the online magazine “float” from Berlin, and “Venemestari” editor-in-chief Jan Sjölund jointly presented the prize in the Best for Family category to Espen Aalrud, the head of Marex Boats from Norway, for the Marex 330 Scandinavia. The award means a lot to us, because it shows that the Marex 330 Scandinavia has been extensively tested by experienced boat professionals. So it is not only proof to us that the boat is perfect for families, but this award also convinces our customers. It’s approved!”
In the Best for Fun category, the Waterdream 52 California from the Netherlands won. Waterdream CEO Bernhard van Oranje was pleased: “We were nominated for the first time in this category. This is a great success for such a young brand. The Waterdream has many great features, but above all it is 90% recyclable. This makes them very special today.” The prize was handed over by Alfred J. Boer, chief boat steaster who writes for the Belgian magazine “Varen” and the Dutch magazine “Nautique”.
The Silent 60 from Silent Yachts from Austria convinced the BOB jury and won in the Best for Travel category. Julijan Višnjevec, editor-in-chief of the magazine Val Navtika from Ljubljana (Slovenia), emphasized the almost unlimited range in the laudation. Franz Böse from Silent Yachts from Austria accepted the prize on site in Berlin: “We are very grateful for this award, because the Silent Yacht 60 is a very special boat. Many of our customers are first-time boat owners who want to be role models by controlling a boat powered by renewable energy.”
For the second time, the Best of Boats special prize Best for Future was awarded to a “game changer” of the boat industry that brings innovative technologies and new concepts together with the idea of sustainability. The electric boat Frauenscher TimeSquare 20 from Austria was awarded. Stefan Frauscher from Bootswerft Frauscher said: “Innovation is part of our DNA. It is time to rethink boating, and we are convinced that this is the future and Frauscher TimesSquare 20 will be part of it. Our electric boat is for everyone who loves boating and wants to be part of a development that values energy and resource efficiency.”
