Concentrated, industry-relevant exhibitor program meets top-class, competent trade audiences
Conferences, master’s days and top-class lecture program at the Speakers Corner also ensure intensive specialist dialogue
The 10th EXPONATEC COLOGNE from 17th to 19th November 2021 in Cologne was an indispensable meeting place for the museum and restoration industry. This was the unanimous opinion of exhibitors, organizers and professional partners at the end of the fair. For the approximately 80 providers from the fields of exhibition design and technology, media, digitality, knowledge transfer and public relations, the three days of the fair meant intensive expert discussions with a top-class audience from cultural companies, research, monument preservation and cultural management. “The great need for dialogue in the industry has been concentrated at this fair these days,” says Oliver Frese, Managing Director of Koelnmesse. The high quality of the trade visitors confirms the relevance of this trade fair as well as the concentrated exhibitor offer. The trust that the industry had in EXPONATEC COLOGNE has paid off.” In total, approx. 2,700 trade visitors from 20 countries to the fair in Cologne, about twelve percent of whom come from abroad.
The fact that the right contacts were there was the decisive factor for the exhibitors of EXPONATEC COLOGNE. Expert discussions at the stands could be held intensively. Topics such as security technology, an increasingly important concern, climate and storage procedures, digital recording and archiving, visitor approach and visitor guidance were just a few of the focal points that were discussed at the stands of manufacturers and service providers. With Brune Luftbeuchtung, Deffner & Johann GmbH, Glasbau Hahn GmbH, MBA Design & Display Produkt GmbH, Zeutschel GmbH and others, important players were on site. Even smaller companies specialized in certain aspects were able to present their services and solutions with commitment.
The EXPONATEC COLOGNE event and congress program was also able to distinguish itself with top-class participants and topics. The greater integration of the newly designed Speakers Corner into the exhibition hall proved to be a dialogue-enhancing. The partners of EXPONATEC COLOGNE used this stage as well as the congress opportunities. In addition to the Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences (CICS) of the Cologne University of Technology, these include the German Museum Association (DBM), the Association of Conservators (VDR) as well as the Federation of Homeland and Environment in Germany (BHU) and VerA – Association of Exhibition Designers in Germany e.V.
The CISC once again successfully held the Master’s Days and also offered live insights into the work of the students in the hall.
As always, the presentations of Best in Heritage met with great interest with the “Projects of Influence”.
“Digitalization and Cultural Heritage” was overwritten by this year’s colloquium that Europa Nostra conducted with its partners. Together, the participants showed the possibilities between archiving and visualization and mediation work through digital tools.
On the stage of the Speakers Corner, the talk series of the German DBM also revolved around the digital topic, with the focus on the benefits for the museums. In its lecture series, the VDR sheds light on the special challenges of restoration.
In addition, the prize “Riegel – KulturBewahren” was awarded for the second time as part of EXPONATEC COLOGNE. This year, the award went to the Building Management & Security Working Group in the German Museum Association.
In fact, securing cultural goods against robbery and vandalism was an important topic at the fair. Great attention was also paid to the focus on industrial culture, which was the focus of this year’s BHU conference, among other things. Digitization as an important step in communication with visitors received a new relevance and urgency due to the pandemic-related temporary closures of cultural enterprises and therefore also remained one of the important concerns.
The next EXPONATEC COLOGNE will take place from 22nd to 24th November 2023.
