【DE】”Personal contact is irreplaceable”

  • Around 20,000 visitors from almost 70 countries
  • Share of international visitors at just over 60 percent
  • productronica once again meeting place for the electronics industry in difficult times

Under strict hygiene requirements – 3G+ for exhibitors and 2G for visitors – took place from 16th to 19th November the productronica took place on the grounds of Messe München. A total of 894 exhibitors from 36 countries and around 20,000 visitors from almost 70 countries came to this year’s edition of the world’s leading trade fair for development and production for electronics. Despite the current framework conditions, the proportion of international visitors was just over 60 percent.

The top ten visitor countries to Germany were (in this order): Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Israel, Spain, Turkey, Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Netherlands.

Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Messe München, draws a positive conclusion: “We are really very happy that productronica was able to take place as a face-to-face trade fair. As expected, this year it was more of a leading European trade fair, but also well beyond the DACH region, as the strong number of visitors from Italy, France, but especially from Israel and Turkey shows.” Barbara Müller, project manager of productronica, adds: “productronica has thus underpinned its character as the leading trade fair for the industry.”

Exhibitors agree: Presence more important than ever

Rainer Kurtz, Chairman of the Advisory Board of productronica and Chairman of the Management Board of Kurtz Holding, seamlessly agrees with this: “productronica has once again proven to be the leading trade fair for electronics production”, and adds with regard to on-site experience: “Personal contact is irreplaceable for our customers and business partners. The industry thrives on this showcase of innovations. In view of the current pandemic situation, we consider the course of the fair to be a complete success.” Thilo Brückner, Managing Director of the VDMA Trade Association EMINT productronic, also confirms: “productronica was a very successful trade fair for VDMA EMINT and its members. The visitors, many of them from other European countries, came with concrete concerns and showed how important face-to-face fairs are.” And Volker Pape, co-founder and supervisory board member of Viscom AG, emphasizes: “We are very pleased that we can again present Viscom technology live to our customers face to face despite all restrictions. productronica has retained its importance as the leading trade fair even in these times. This is also shown by the number of visitors, which shows itself under “normal” times, but much more than expected.”

productronica Innovation Award

Messe München has awarded the productronica Innovation Award for the fourth time in cooperation with Hüthig Verlag. The fact that the industry still has immense innovative power despite the unstable times is shown by a total of 60 submissions to the Innovation Award, the winners of which were traditionally announced on the first day of the fair:

Cluster “Cables, Coils & Hybrids”: Schleuniger AG

  • Cluster “Future Markets”: Koh Young Europe GmbH
  • Cluster “Inspection & Quality”: Alfamation S.p.A.
  • Cluster “PCB & EMS”: IO Tech
  • Cluster “Semiconductor”: AP&S International GmbH
  • Cluster “SMT”: SMT Maschinen- und Vertriebs GmbH & Co. KG

A lot of tradition, a premiere: “productronica online”

The “productronica online” premiered, with the help of which exhibitors and visitors can network digitally. The platform already went on the 8th. November online and is still open until 26. November went live. All participants of the on-site event in Munich automatically have access here as well. By the last day of the fair, around 5,000 participants already took advantage of this new offer.

The next productronica will take place from 14th to 17th November 2023 at the exhibition center in Munich.

Further statements from our exhibitors and partners (in alphabetical order):

Dr. Sandra Engle, Speaker, VDMA Productronic

Under the given conditions, productronica was satisfactory for the VDMA EMINT member companies. In the thematically wide-ranging lecture program of the Innovation Forum, visitors informed themselves about the topics that move the industry, such as Quantum technology, electromobility or innovative handling solutions for electronics production.”

Klaus Gross, Managing Director, FUJI EUROPE CORPORATION GmbH

Fuji is very satisfied with the course of productronica 2021. On the one hand, this refers to the number of visitors. We had about 30 to 40 percent fewer visitors than in 2019 – but this significantly exceeds our expectations. On the other hand, the discussions are of very high quality and in many cases paired with a concrete investment project. In addition, we are very happy to meet our customers in person again after two years of abstinence. This was a very good feeling after this long time of TEAMS, Webex, Zoom and Co.”

Günter Lauber, CEO, SMT Solutions Segment & EVPc, ASMPT

We are very satisfied, the atmosphere at our stand is excellent. I am convinced that it is now the right time for hybrid trade fairs and events and here too we have to bring together the best of two worlds, as we have all learned over the past two years. This also applies to productronica, with which Messe München offers us an excellent platform with an excellent security concept!”

Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI

The return of SEMICON Europe, which takes place at the same time as productronica, to a personal meeting with all necessary health and safety regulations, is an important step for the microelectronics industry in Europe. SEMI is pleased to once again gather the leaders from the entire electronics design and manufacturing supply chain to overcome the many opportunities and challenges we face.”

Jürgen Ries, Managing Director, ASYS Automatisierungssysteme GmbH

In general, it has been shown that topics can be placed well with digital formats – but they cannot completely replace face-to-face events and after the long lockdown period, we were now very happy that productronica could take place. productronica is definitely the leading trade fair in the electronics industry and of very important importance to us. Of course, due to the exacerbated corona situation, we had concerns about how many visitors will come. We were more than positively surprised by the number of visitors and the quality of the conversations was also excellent.”

Christoph Stoppok, Managing Director, ZVEI Electronic Association

Productronica, as one of the few face-to-face fairs this year, is consistently received very positively by exhibitors and visitors. Exhibitors and visitors are happy about the encounters, the interesting conversations and the opportunity to develop and maintain real business relationships again. The pandemic has given digitization an enormous boost, but the personal encounter cannot be replaced, at best supplemented. In this respect, exhibitors and visitors are looking forward to further trade fairs at the Munich location.”
