The long, enforced break has come to an end: with the 39th Classic & Prestige Salon, an absolute success format will start its next round within the section of the Essen Motor Show. As in 2019, at the last edition of the tradition-steeped classic car exhibition, around 250 exquisite and impressive collector cars await the visitors on 17,000 square metres of exhibition space. The Classic & Prestige Salon is regarded as the unsurpassed highlight of the largest annual motor show in Germany. Lovers of exclusive, individual, high-performance and historically significant automobiles will find their true Eldorado in Hall 1 and Hall 2.
Exceptional automobiles continue to be in vogue. This is impressively demonstrated by the Classic & Prestige Salon under the roof of the Essen Motor Show. Everything on four wheels that is rare, exclusive and extraordinary will find its stage within the scope of this spectacular PS festival – an extravagant variety of oldtimers, young classics, historic motor sport up to classic and prestige automobiles.
This year, among others, several Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs from the 1950s will be presented by BRABUS Classic after an uncompromising six-star restoration. Several dealers will bring exciting collector cars from the Classic Remise Düseldorf to Essen. AutoClassic from Riga will also be on site. The experts from Latvia will be showing their sports cars from the 1950s and 1960s, carefully restored down to the last detail.
In addition to often tailor-made automotive works of art and high-quality offers for collectors, around 25 renowned international dealers will also be presenting attractive offers in affordable price segments at the Classic & Prestige Salon. Popular modern classics from Germany, England, France or Italy, many built in the 1990s, offer extremely attractive destinations especially for younger buyers in Hall 1 and Hall 2.
In addition, enthusiasts will be thrilled by everything that is important to classic cars: around 120 professional exhibitors will offer accessories and automobilia, tools and services, as well as literature, model cars and art. Presentations by numerous clubs promise enormous diversity on site at the Club Forum and open up countless opportunities for discussions, valuable tips and a wealth of information. Fans appreciate the fact that the entire scene is represented here in a microcosm.
The main attraction of the Classic & Prestige Salon is the special shows of the organiser S.I.H.A. Ausstellungen Promotion GmbH in the heart of Hall 1. This year, the fascinating Jaguar E-Type celebrates its 60th birthday: a Coupé and a Roadster, both from Series 1, stand here in the purest form for this epochal icon. But contemporary Super Sports Cars also attract a lot of admiration, for example the Koenigsegg Regera, a thoroughly luxurious bolide with a massive total output of 1500 hp.
S.I.H.A. also pays tribute to the spectacular triumph of three Ford GTs at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans 55 years ago: a historic GT40, a GT3 racing car and a current Ford GT provide insights into the great, fascinating success story of this racing sports model. At the same time, Ford Cologne looks back on the founding of its factory 90 years ago. As a highlight, the successful Ford Capri RS 2600, which won the Spa-Francorchamps 24- hour race (and many others) in 1971 while in factory use, will be congratulated, along with the RS 3100, a second racing Capri, and the Ford Escort Mk I Valtellina Group 2 – charmingly rounded off by some truly historic Ford T models over 100 years old on the stand of a specialised dealer.
There will also be applause for the Vespa at the Classic & Prestige Salon: the Italian cult scooter is 75 years old this year. Exciting, rare historical exhibits celebrate the dolce vita on two wheels.
In Hall 2, on the other hand, the racetrack professionals from ChromeCars will be presenting around two dozen exquisite originals, including Jesse’s VW Jetta from The Fast and the Furious and the Ford Mustang Eleanor from Only 60 Seconds as Hero Cars. Also parked on the stand is the official Scuderia Ferrari Motorhome, once driven by Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. Other popular movie cars will captivate visitors, including the X-34 Landspeeder from the space saga Star Wars.
This year’s guest at the Classic & Prestige Salon for the first time is the PS.SPEICHER from Einbeck. It will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Berlin AVUS with the Borgward RS 1500, a successful racing sports car of its era that won several class victories.
Also part of the Classic & Prestige Salon is the Touring Car Legends racing series founded in 2019. The focus will be on around ten touring race cars from the DTM of the 1980s and 1990s. The core is formed by the big stars of that era, from the Audi V8 and BMW M3 to the Mercedes-Benz 190 2.5-16 Evo 1 and Evo 2 and the Opel Vectra STW. In addition, hot exotics in circuit trim such as Fiat Ritmo, Rover Vitesse or Alfa Romeo 75 bring a lot of variety to this fast-paced field.
The special exhibition of the ADAC Nordrhein promises a great look back at 100 years of automobility. Several vehicles tell their stories here, including a Hanomag Kommissbrot, which was already in use as a road patrol vehicle in 1928. As a large association, the AvD is not missing either. Among other things, it offers visitors to the Classic & Prestige Salon the opportunity to test their skills in a driving simulator.
Dealers and visitors alike are also eagerly awaiting the results of the international Concours d’Elégance, which will once again be one of the highlights of the Classic & Prestige Salon. In this beauty contest, the international jury of respected classic car experts from several countries will award the World Cup to the most elegant automobile from the dealers’ range as “Best of Show”. In addition, prizes will be awarded in various classes.
In keeping with a good tradition, the organiser S.I.H.A. will again support charitable organisations in their charity campaigns in 2021. The KinderHerz foundation, which raffles off a race lap with endurance racer Timo Bernhard, is a welcome regular at the Classic & Prestige Salon, as is Lebenshilfe Gießen with its unsurpassed successful classic car fundraising campaign. It has been making countless people happy for over a quarter of a century.
It is the multitude of great attractions that makes the Classic & Prestige Salon at Europe’s largest annual motor show the top meeting place and absolute must-attend event for enthusiasts of all stripes. Whether young beginners, active collectors or enthusiastic connoisseurs: For all of them, this fascinating destination not only offers the longed-for moment of a new start after a long break, but also the best opportunity to already take a first look at the coming world fair for classic automobiles – the 33rd Techno Classica Essen. It will open its doors in March 2022.
