VdS, Europe’s No. 1 Institute for Fire Protection, and UL, the US market leader, have signed an agreement on the mutual acceptance of test results for several European certification standards. Among other things, for fire alarm systems according to EN 54, the two industry leaders can now recognize each other’s test data and thus significantly reduce costs and time for their customers.
Dr. Robert Reinermann, spokesman for the VdS management: “The VdS mission is not only to ensure clearly proven security, but also comprehensive and time-saving support for our customers – including by offering all the necessary testing services from a single source. The new agreement is a big step forward for VdS and UL, whose focus on safety and quality corresponds to our own ideals. From now on, our customers can open up new possibilities and further simplify and accelerate their cross-border certification processes.”
Chris Hasbrook, Vice President and General Manager UL Built Environment Group: “We are pleased to announce the mutual acceptance of the test results with VdS. We like what VdS stands for, we share similar values, and this relationship is something that our customers support. It is a great step for both organizations and, more importantly, for our customers, who will now be able to gain access to markets that they may not have considered before.”
From now on, VdS customers also benefit from UL taking over test results for the issue of the UL EU / UL AU test mark and the UK CPR certificate (allows UKCA). VdS accepts UL tests according to European standards. In addition, joint customers gain broader market access by being able to provide their products with the VdS and UL quality seals.
