The toy industry was looking forward to its world’s leading event at the beginning of February. The sharp increase in the omicron variant in recent days and the associated increasing stand cancellations leave the organizer, Spielwarenmesse eG, no other choice – he has to cancel the Spielwarenmesse 2022 in Nuremberg with a heavy heart. Alternatively, exhibitors, specialist retailers and media representatives meet on the toy fair Digital platform.
“We fought intensively for the implementation of the face-to-face event and initially received strong support from the worldwide toy markets,” says Christian Ulrich, spokesman for the board of Spielwarenmesse eG. Especially the large number of providers without an international distribution network had appealed to the organizers in December to maintain the trade fair, which is important for their foreign business.
In recent days, the framework conditions have deteriorated increasingly. Due to the sharp increase in the omicron variant, there is now a significantly changed pandemic situation. In response, numerous exhibitors have cancelled their stand in concern for the health of their teams. Consequently, the broad overview for the international toy market, which the toy fair stands for as the world’s leading event in the industry, is no longer available. To make matters worse, there is no longer any planning security due to an official cancellation possible at any time.
We regret our decision and would like to thank all those who worked until the end for the implementation of a face-to-face fair, emphasizes Christian Ulrich. A multifunctional platform is available for both exhibitors and visitors: Thanks to Spielwarenmesse Digital, they have the opportunity to network and discover the latest trends at the original trade fair date.
