FireFit European Championships

Above all, strength, condition and speed are required at the FireFit European Championships. This is where the best international firefighters compete at INTERSCHUTZ. The competitions run on all six days of the fair from the 20th to the 25th. June between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the outdoor area. As last year, the organizers expect starters from all over the world.

On the first four days, the qualification for the European Championship races is on the agenda. These are then planned for trade fair Friday and Saturday. Every day there will be a tribute for the best of the day. It starts in the categories single, tandem and relay. Five stations have to be mastered: With a hose package on your shoulders, you have to climb the steps of the twelve-meter-high HAIX tower in full outfit and with respiratory protection immediately after the start. Before going to the next stations, another fire hose must be pulled up. At the next stations, the firefighters swing the hammer on the impact machine, go through a short slalom route, pick up a filled fire hose and extinguish a target fire before the personal rescue is simulated in the final sprint and an 80-kilogram doll is rescued to the finish. As it turned out, the elite can complete the entire course in less than two minutes in the competition.

The FireFit Championships have been held in Canada for almost 30 years. Following this example, the FireFit Championships Europe Tour offers a common competition format for firefighting throughout Europe. The important links: firefit.com/ and firefit-europe.eu/

With a hackathon on civil and civil protection initiated by the research projects SPELL and PAIRS, INTERSCHUTZ receives another, young and innovative event – the Hackathon@INTERSCHUTZ.

SPELL and PAIRS are two research projects funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) to integrate artificial intelligence into crisis and situation management. That’s why the hackathon was also established. It gathers hackers from all countries, professions and age groups. Together, they should hack exciting challenges for 40 hours (Hall 19). They are supported by various coaches. In the end, extraordinary and creative ideas, prototypes and business models are expected. The motto: 40 hours, six challenges, one goal: Shaping the future of civil protection and the supply chain together. In total, there are prizes up to €5,000 to be won. The award ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, the 26th. June at 11 a.m. Further information at: www.spell-plattform.de/hackathon

Holmatro Rescue Challenge

Twenty teams from 15 countries will prove their skills in realistic vehicle exemption scenarios at the Holmatro Rescue Challenge. Using Holmatro’s new Pentheon tools, it is important to rescue a “living patient” from a modern BMW vehicle. The exact scenario remains confidential until the start of the competition. A group of experienced reviewers is there to assess the performance of the participants and to determine the overall winners of the event. The aim of the competition is to offer firefighters and rescue workers a safe and realistic learning environment as possible. Before they put their techniques into practice, every Holmatro team receives training.

The now second international Holmatro Rescue Challenge will take place from the 20th to the 24th. June under the Expo roof in the middle of the exhibition center. In addition to the honor of winning the challenge, Holmatro rescue tool sets with a total value of 50,000 euros beckon the best teams as a reward. The best participants in the categories best overall team, best technical team and best team spirit are determined. The award ceremony will take place on Friday, 24. June at 5 p.m. More information at www.holmatro.com/en/Rescuechallenge

The S-GARD SAFETYTOUR is about deepening and practical practice of special fire brigade techniques. For this purpose, the company S-GARD is setting up a large live training course on the outdoor area in front of Hall 17. 480 participants have the opportunity to register for the main event. Bookings are currently still possible at: www.s-gard.de/safetytour/interschutz/#lp-program .

Under realistic conditions, various everyday exercises are completed in small groups in order to be optimally prepared in an emergency. The program is divided into two parts: The stations in the mornings cover the entire fire brigade spectrum. This will include, for example, firefighting on a specially prepared Deutsche Bahn tank car. The teams operating at this station will have to deal with a stab flame up to four meters in size. Another exercise is about ensuring the slipped cargo on a means of transport under difficult conditions for the teams. Due to the risk of contamination, the participants will have to wear special protective equipment. In addition, the use of exercise foam leads to massive visual impairments.

The deployment scenarios in the afternoon are from the area of technical assistance. The focus here is on fast, patient-oriented help – for example, during the live crash of a vehicle. The topic of electromobility is also part of the training. For example, it is about getting to know the peculiarities of a battery fire and coping with them live. This station is combined with a mechanical engineering accident. An exciting challenge that must be solved as a team in order to be able to transport the patient safely to a clinic.

The conditions of participation of the S-GARD SAFETYTOUR include that firefighters must have completed basic fire brigade technical training and respiratory protection training. In addition, a valid respiratory protection suitability G 26.3 is required. At the end, all participants will receive a confirmation of participation.

For visitors who want to take on the role of a firefighter themselves, S-GARD offers various hands-on activities at INTERSCHUTZ, such as working with hydraulic rescue equipment or exercises to prevent contamination. These so-called “public stations” can also be found during the entire duration of the fair in front of Hall 17.
