【DE】Bremen Double Congress successfully ended

  1. DEWU German Wound Congress & Bremen Nursing Congress enabled professional and personal exchange

From Wednesday to Friday, 4th to 6th May 2022, a total of 3,076 nurses, doctors, employees of the health sector and experts from research in Bremen came together to finally exchange, train and network in presence again.

In around 140 different meetings, workshops, discussions and interactive formats, the Double Congress not only offered an overview of the current state of research and development, but also gave an idea of the state of the current health policy and ethical discussion. In the affiliated trade exhibition, 105 companies and service providers presented their work and products for wound care and care.

The double congress was opened by Bremen’s health senator Claudia Bernhard. She appreciated the work of the nurses and promised in her greeting that she wanted to work hard to ensure that care is adequately rewarded – not only in the form of ideal recognition, but also in the form of changed framework conditions, for example in terms of working hours and pay. The fact that this is also urgently needed is shown by the results of the nationwide study “I care again if…” presented at the Bremen Nursing Congress. The central finding of the study: Many former nurses can imagine returning to nursing if different conditions are met. In addition to reliable working hours, this is also a better staffing.

Even at DEWU, the participants were able to take a lot of knowledge with them and not be amazed at one point or another. For example, at the meeting “Fair but hard” moderated by wound expert Jan Forster from Bremen. Three unusual wound stories were presented here, one of which unfortunately did not turn out well, because this case was obviously based on Münchhausen syndrome, i.e. compulsive self-harming behavior.

The accompanying industrial exhibition was already considerably more up-to-edgetic, in which, of course, everything revolved around making life easier for interested visitors – be it through innovative medical devices, technical aids, diagnostic and documentation tools or very practical with coffee specialties fresh from the machine or delicious soft ice cream.

An integral part of the program of DEWU is the awarding of the German Wound Prize in various categories – donated by the Initiative Chronische Wunden (ICW) e.V. The expert jury awarded four works and initially awarded a special newcomer prize. The winners are:

“The high number of participants in this first face-to-face congress after 2019 proves that both the German Wound Congress and the Bremen Nursing Congress have a high priority in the health industry,” says division manager Kordula Grimm at the end of the event. And project manager Cordula Paul adds: “It was clear how much everyone was looking forward to seeing you again. Of course, modern digital technology makes a lot possible, but it will never replace personal encounters.”

The date for the next double congress has already been set: In 2023, the DEWU German Wound Congress & Bremen Nursing Congress will take place from Wednesday to Friday, 10th to 12th. May, instead.
