Friedrichshafen – The AERO 2022 was a great success! General aviation is optimistic about the challenges of the future and showed a variety of solutions for even more safety and sustainability at the leading four-day trade fair in Friedrichshafen. The exhibiting companies and the international trade audience were enthusiastic about meeting and exchanging ideas in person again.
The great popularity that the AERO 2022 (27th – 30th April), shows how indispensable personal meetings are for an industry. 27 700 trade visitors from 75 nations flocked to the almost completely booked exhibition center on Lake Constance with 633 exhibitors on the four days of the fair. Klaus Wellmann, Managing Director of Messe Friedrichshafen, is pleased: “The sun came out when the trade fair gates opened to the international aviation industry after a long pandemic period. Reunion joy radiated throughout the AERO and the economy was once again shown how valuable personal networking, random encounters as well as many planned appointments and physical product experiences are.”
General aviation has made good use of the past years of the AERO forced break. Even during the corona crisis, the development departments of the companies worked hard on new products and services that make flying more sustainable, safer and easier.
Tobias Bretzel, project manager of the trade fair organizer fairnamic GmbH: “Manufacturers, customers and interested parties were once again able to feel the resilience and innovative power of the industry at AERO. The high-tech technologies from general aviation will flow into large aviation. The spirit of optimism and the impulses of the AERO 2022 will have a far effect beyond the fair.”
Visitors to the fair experienced such a large number of novelties and innovations at AERO 2022 as rarely before in the history of AERO. The topic of sustainability was very clearly in the foreground. Aviation is facing a technological generation change in drives. Which type of drive – electric, hybrid-electric, hydrogen fuel cell or bio- and eFuels – will prevail in the future is not yet foreseeable and has been the subject of many discussions at the most extensive AERO conference program of all time. However, it is certain that the future of aviation will be sustainable. The newly created Sustainable Aviation Trail – characterized by large, green balloons above the stands of the participating exhibitors – highlighted companies and institutions that are particularly committed to sustainability in aviation.
Among the novelties that were on display for the first time at the AERO are the two-engine motor aircraft Alpi Twin from the Italian manufacturer Alpi Aviation, the four-seater single-engine aircraft A414 from Aquila Aviation from Schönhagen, the two-seater training and travel aircraft Elixir 915iS from the French company Elixir Aircraft
There were also many innovations to discover in aircraft systems and accessories at AERO 2022, from new avionics (aircraft electronics) to new software for flight planning and execution to services related to aviation.
The date of AERO 2023 has already been set: The next AERO will take place from 19th to 22nd. April 2023 in Friedrichshafen. Further information at: www.aero-expo.com and https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/aeroshow
Patrick Schutterop, Business Manager, Bose Aviation EMEA & APAC, BOSE Aviation:
“We are very pleased with the fact that the industry can meet face to face here again. We meet a lot of contacts here. There are many, many reasons to come to Friedrichshafen. There are many events to participate in, but we can’t be everywhere. At our annual budget meetings, it takes exactly two seconds to decide to participate in the next AERO. For BOSE Europe, AERO is the most important trade fair of the year!”
Mathias Betsch, founder and managing director of Flight Design general aviation GmbH:
“The fair was great! It makes a huge difference whether you talk to someone directly or at a web conference. We are already looking forward to the AERO next year!”
Laurent Gauthier, owner and managing director of Porta Air Service:
“It’s good that there was another fair without a mask. However, we would have liked more visitors to have been allowed to arrive by plane. In times of crisis, this AERO is a great ray of hope that spreads confidence. The demand for avionics retrofits is overwhelming, we need more avionics!”
Walter Da Costa, Chief Sales Officer, Tecnam:
After all these years of interruption, it was a great feeling to be back at the AERO. The number of visitors, the number of sales, the very high standard of products and services, also confirmed our choice: AERO is the natural meeting place for the General Aviation Community, where Tecnam presents its history and its latest products and meets with all Tecnam dealers and customers from all over the world.”
Dieter Morszeck, CEO and owner of Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG:
The 30th AERO 2022 – eagerly awaited by everyone after two years of abstinence. Our idea of reconstructing historic aircraft with today’s technology has once again been very popular. So we were able to present several highlights this year. From the A50 Junior (an ultralight of the 600kg class), our WACO and Great Lakes to the absolute news about the A60 and the JU-52 NG. Our expectations were more than met and the response was consistently positive.”
Johannes Graf von Schaesberg, Managing Director of Rheinland Air Service (RAS):
Together with the manufacturer Bell, we were able to present ourselves as Rheinland Air Service for the first time as a Bell 505 dealer in Germany at this year’s AERO. At the center of the interest of all trade and trade fair visitors was our brand new helicopter, which was delivered only a few days ago. We were particularly pleased with the high number of visitors during the trade fair days and the diverse discussions about the Bell 505. The special focus of interest was on the extraordinary flight characteristics of the Bell 505, the Garmin G1000TM NXi flight deck and the novel GFCTM 600H autopilot, which guarantees an absolutely noticeable workload relief for the pilot as an industry-known ‘game changer’. In conclusion, it can be noted that many valuable new contacts and the signs of strong buying interest in the market made the trade fair days at Lake Constance a complete success for Bell and RAS. We are therefore looking forward to seeing you again at AERO 2023.”
Ivo Simon, Managing Director Dronivo GmbH:
“We took part in the AERO in Friedrichshafen for the first time and are thrilled! Our expectations were exceeded. We have found exactly the right exchange with important customers and partners. We are already looking forward to participating in the fair again next year as an exhibitor.”
Arthur Leopold-Leger, Chairman Elixir Aircraft:
“We are very pleased to have met many aviation enthusiasts, other manufacturers and suppliers again at AERO. The AERO 2020 was supposed to be a big trade fair appearance for us, but unfortunately it was cancelled. Two years later, we are not only here with an approved aircraft, but even present a second aircraft type!”
Francois Stelandre, Design and Quality Manager JMB aircraft:
“We are very satisfied. Even though we got through the pandemic well, it feels good to be back at the show. It’s just nice to see the smile on your faces when people discover the new products live for the first time. We thank the trade fair team for the great organization and will certainly be back on board the AERO next year.”
Mirko Hahn, CEO AeroSys:
“The four days at AERO Friedrichshafen were a busy as well as successful and intensive time for us. A very special highlight was the presentation of the fliegermagazin Award 2022 – here we received the award as ‘Newcomer of the Year’. The fair offered us a great platform to make our digital copilot Goose even better known. There was both great interest, constructive feedback and a clear commitment of the aviation industry to our product and we were able to win new beta pilots. And: The next cooperations with other manufacturers and companies are already in prospect.”
About the event:
The AERO 2022 took place from 27th to 30th. April 2022 at the exhibition center of Messe Friedrichshafen. AERO is the leading international trade fair for general aviation, business aviation and air sports. Aircraft from the civilian drone to gliders, ultralight aircraft and gyrocopters, helicopters, travel and training aircraft with piston engine or propeller turbine to business jets were present. New propulsion systems, electric flight, state-of-the-art avionics, services and accessories for pilots were further focal points of the fair. These topics were also reflected in the AERO Conferences and thus made Europe’s largest event for general aviation an important platform for knowledge exchange and further training.
