【DE】didacta sends a strong signal for the future of education

With good results, the most important trade fair for the education industry, didacta 2022, came to an end in Cologne on Saturday. After three years without personal exchange on site, the importance of didacta as a central discussion forum, largest continuing education congress and the most important socio-political stage in the industry was particularly important. The fair sent a strong signal for the future of education and showed that all areas of education must go through a dynamic reform and change process in order to be able to successfully respond to new challenges. Around 35,000 visitors used the fair to inform themselves about innovative concepts, new pedagogical approaches, innovations and current solutions in the numerous forums and at the exhibiting companies. The companies were pleased about the great interest and expressly emphasized the very high quality on the part of the visitors. “To give the industry the necessary impulses for the business and to fulfill its leading function as the most important industry meeting place with high relevance: didacta has mastered both tasks with flying colors. In addition, it has convincingly proven its quality as an efficient networking platform,” says Koelnmesse Managing Director Oliver Frese.

Also this year, many political decision-makers had come to Cologne to discuss necessary changes in the education system with educators, teachers or professionals in education and training. This underlines that despite a forced break, the fair continues to have a great traction for the industry. Reinhard Koslitz, Managing Director of the Didacta Association, was also convinced of this: “The restart of the didacta has been successful. We had relied on the meeting on site and the interest of the visitors shows that there is nothing to replace personal exchange.”

Education must provide answers to the great challenges of our time. Koslitz continues: “In recent days, we have had intensive debates about what distinguishes contemporary education and how we can make young people strong. The Didacta Association and the companies in the educational industry have set many impulses and at the same time got new tasks on the ground. We will now do everything we can to take up the requirements from practice in order to continue to support specialists and teachers in the best possible way. The next chance to do so will be in March 2023 at didacta in Stuttgart.”

The central topics of didacta 2022 included, both the exhibiting companies and in the forums and workshops – in addition to the effects of the pandemic on all areas of education – the ever faster digitization in schools and companies, questions of sustainability as well as the situation and integration of refugee children. In addition, it became clear at the fair that education is increasingly opening up to new pedagogical concepts and ‘new media’ for knowledge transfer. The Internet is becoming a flexible and almost inexhaustible source of knowledge in daycare, school and vocational training. This leads to an ever-increasing individualization of education.

The 500 individual congress program consisting of top-class forums, workshops, lectures, practice-oriented seminars, special shows and panel discussions offered space for these and other topics. A total of 485 speakers offered almost 300 hours of program to visitors to didacta 2022 on the five days of the fair. In this way, didacta has sustainably underlined its claim as the most important and largest pedagogical training event in Germany.
