Under the motto “Future? Running!” NORTEC 2022 showed innovations from mechanical and plant engineering, production technology and electronics production and other industrial production areas. The campus for medium-sized companies was once again used by trade visitors as a driving force for steps towards digital transformation and sustainable automation solutions. In the focus of the four-day industry event from 31. May to 03. June 2022, the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises were particularly met.
With an overview of technical innovations, training offers and start-up power, NORTEC 2022 addressed the enormous need for personal exchange, industry information and background knowledge in all areas of industrial and contract manufacturing. And that was high time: Since the beginning of the corona pandemic in 2020, companies in northern Germany have lacked the opportunity for an intensive expert discussion on site. At the same time, with the increased energy costs, supply bottlenecks for raw materials and precursors and the increasing demand for skilled workers, new challenges have been added for SMEs. A lot of material for the trade fair and its visitors, who also used the industry platform to inform about current topics such as the obligation to prove sustainability criteria in production and the associated more efficient use of resources and resources.
More than 200 exhibiting companies presented numerous production highlights to around 3,500 trade visitors. “NORTEC 2022 offered the opportunity for further training, exchange and expert discussions at the highest level,” says Bernd Aufderheide, Chairman of the Management Board of Hamburg Messe und Congress. Despite the desire for encounter, restraint among visiting and exhibiting companies was expected, especially from the manufacturing industry. “This is a development that we are currently observing at other trade fairs throughout Germany. In addition, not only did we have to postpone NORTEC from its ancestral date in January to the end of May, but also other industry events took place at the same time.”
Nevertheless, the pressing topics of the industry were comprehensively negotiated at the exhibition stands, in lectures, workshops, networking events and round table discussions. “Digitization, automation, electronics production and energy-efficient production processes are the current core topics that move SMEs in particular here in the north,” summarizes Andreas Arnheim, project manager at NORTEC. “With NORTEC, we have succeeded in installing and further developing a meeting place for innovation and cross-industry cooperation in Hamburg.”
Positive outlook for 2024
Michael Keilbach, Sales Manager Trumpf GmbH & Co. KG, clearly recognizes the advantages of NORTEC: “For us, NORTEC as a regional industrial fair is a great place to meet our partners from northern German industrial companies. This personal exchange is very important to us and after the vacuum of recent years, we are also very happy about the glow in the eyes of our customers. This year we had fewer visitors at the stand than in previous years, but we also had more time for intensive high-quality discussions. We are very much looking forward to the next NORTEC in January 2024. Jörg Stöcker, Managing Director of MULTI COMPONENTS GmbH, adds: “We are at NORTEC for the second time and our expectations have been fully met. The machines of the manufacturers working with us work together at all levels and represent the entire process chain of assembly production. Here in Hamburg, we have the opportunity to introduce interested parties from northern Germany to the machine. This is the great advantage of NORTEC with the constantly growing exhibitor area electronics production. We plan to definitely come back.”
The visitor survey conducted by an independent market research institute shows that the concept of NORTEC has proven itself as a trade fair for production and campus for medium-sized companies. 66 percent rate NORTEC as “very good/good” and 71 percent would recommend it. The top 3 visitor interests were in the fields of metal/plastic processing, development/construction and automation.
“We are constantly developing NORTEC in dialogue with our exhibitors and are already planning for 2024. Our exhibitors have signaled to us that a trade fair for production in the north is needed, as there is no comparable offer. And of course we are pleased that NORTEC 2024 can take place again as the first production fair of the year,” Andreas Arnheim looks positively into the future.
The next NORTEC will take place from 23 to 26th. January 2024. Further information can be found at www.nortec-hamburg.de.
