【DE】DACH+HOLZ International 2022: Summer edition exceeds expectations

For four days, there was above all joy at the reunion of the industry at DACH+HOLZ International 2022 in Cologne. Radiant faces, investment-loving visitors, intensive and detailed discussions have shaped the leading trade fair for the roofing and wood industry.

Networking at the highest level was the focus of the summer edition of DACH+HOLZ International 2022. Both exhibitors and visitors report in unison on a high-quality and more intensive exchange. Having professional discussions, meeting colleagues and making new contacts: After the pandemic-driven last months, this was the primary goal of the approximately 20,000 visitors from over 50 countries who met in Cologne. From 05. to 08. In July, the roofing and timber construction industry was able to find out more about the products of 342 companies from 20 countries at its leading trade fair.


Construction trade eager to invest


Of course, we missed some renowned companies at the summer edition of DACH+HOLZ International 2022. But the exhibitors who were there got their stage and benefited from an increase in attention. They were surprised by their extremely positive business success over the past four days,” says Klaus Plaschka, Managing Director of GHM. According to the survey, the trade audience was even more willing to invest compared to the 2020 event in Stuttgart. The need for market orientation, information and contact management was very high in the goals of the visit. “We are pleased that we were able to meet these expectations. Offering such a stage once in July was enormously important at this time and despite the current challenges,” says Plaschka.


The importance of DACH+HOLZ International as a marketplace in the industry is confirmed on the exhibitor side: “Our trade fair participation was a sensational success business. We have increased the level by 50 percent compared to the previous events. We saw this as an opportunity and the plan worked fully: We had high-quality discussions and are more than satisfied,” concludes Ulrich Lutter, Managing Director at Lemp.


Inquisitive visitors


ZVDH and Holzbau Deutschland, the sponsoring associations of DACH+HOLZ, also report on an extraordinary and talkative trade fair edition: “It was one of the most interesting discussions I have ever had at a trade fair. We have experienced an incredible summer edition,” says ZVDH President Dirk Bollwerk. “Even if the DACH+HOLZ was smaller compared to previous events, it had a lot to offer. I would like to thank everyone who was there and made the July appointment possible.”


Peter Aicher, Chairman of Holzbau Deutschland, takes a similar view: “The personal meeting is indispensable. DACH+HOLZ International has impressively proven this in 2022. Intensive discussions have shaped this year’s industry meeting in Cologne, which once again acted as a central platform for the current exchange and knowledge transfer for four days.”


Start-up award goes to Haidl from Passau


For the newcomers of the industry, the summer edition of DACH+HOLZ also presented itself as a fertile terrain: On the start-up area, the participating start-ups could look forward to a lot of attention. In addition, they had the chance to inspire the audience with their product in short pitches on the forum stage. Haidl convinced the expert jury the most in the end and was awarded the Start-up Award at the fair. The rainfall pipe of the Passau father-son company is an innovation that does not yet exist, is more sustainable than the previous solutions and can also be easily installed. “A clean and high-quality tool for a problem area on construction sites,” according to the jury’s statement.


“DACH+HOLZ was the first opportunity for us to get among so many people with our product, especially among this expert group. We finally got to know our target group personally. This was the best platform we could imagine,” says Managing Director Johannes Haidl.


Smartphone break for influencers


The fact that personal meetings remain indispensable in increasing digital times was also confirmed by the social media-savvy young talent in the industry. On trade fair Tuesday, DACH+HOLZ International invited influencers for the first time to meet and network on site. In a meet & greet and in social media consultations, they had the opportunity to share their experiences with the professional audience with regard to young talent advertising. Getting to know each other live and also getting a face to the name of the influencers caused great enthusiasm: “I met a lot of new people today and got new impressions. I can hardly describe it in words. For me it is the first fair and I am so grateful to have been here,” wrote Sina Klein aka dachdeckerin_sina on Instagram (24.3k followers) after her visit to the fair.


Promotion of young talent in the spotlight


DACH+HOLZ International also functioned again as a junior platform within the industry. The European Carpenter Championship, which guested in Hall 7 during the days of the fair, provided exciting moments. 17 carpenters from seven nations took part in the competition. “This allowed us to draw attention once again to the attractive and varied professional profile of the carpenter,” says Peter Aicher, Chairman of Holzbau Deutschland. Once again, the German team of Holzbau Deutschland proved its skills and achieved first place in the team ranking. Second was the French carpenter team, consisting of Adrien Chenu, Charles Navelot and Colin Laîné. Switzerland reached third place with Matthias Gerber, Elias Gogniat and Nathan Schmid. In the individual evaluation, Marcel Bolego from South Tyrol was named the best European carpenter in 2022.


Looking forward to the next DACH+HOLZ in March 2024


The next DACH+HOLZ International will take place from 05. to 08. March 2024 will take place again in Stuttgart on a regular basis. Many industry players have already signaled their participation. The date is also fixed in the calendar for the majority of visitors: 68 percent of all respondents stated that they wanted to visit the industry’s leading trade fair in Stuttgart.

The absolute hit at our stand was the action area with demonstrations around wood fiber insulation, which we presented for the first time. It was a huge crowd of interested people who intensively interviewed our craftsmen during the demonstrations. The specific questions that came from the visitor side can best be answered through direct contact with the craftsmen. Therefore, participation in DACH+HOLZ was very important for STEICO. We did not expect such a rush at the demonstrations. We will certainly expand the action area for DACH+HOLZ 2024 in Stuttgart.”
