In order for the foot to become functional and resilient after an Achilles tendon rupture, patience is needed, because rehabilitation and healing take a lot of time. In competitive sports, however, patients want to get fit again as soon as possible. A quick rehabilitation is crucial here. Sports physiotherapist Lukas Lai explains how rehabilitation after Achilles tendon rupture can take place in competitive sports at therapie DÜSSELDORF.

After an Achilles tendon rupture (achillesse tendon rupture), good aftercare decides whether the injury can heal successfully and the patient can then run and play sports without restrictions. In competitive sports, the downtime is an average of 11 months and can also lead to the direct end of your career, knows Lukas Lai, practice owner of a physiotherapy practice with an orthopedic/traumatological focus in Giessen. The sports physiotherapist of the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) and athletic trainer of the basketball team Gießen 46er gives an insight into rehabilitation after Achilles tendon rupture using the example of basketball at therapie DÜSSELDORF.

Probably the best-known Achilles tendon rupture in basketball is that of Kobe Bryant in one of the last regular season games in April 2013. After only eight months – in December 2013 – Kobe played again for the first time,” explains Lai. However, such an above-average fast rehabilitation must be planned in detail, the sports physiotherapist points out. Individual assessments and tests give rehabilitation a framework and are decisive in the return-to-sports process.

Lukas Lai plays at the congress of therapie DÜSSELDORF in the seminar “

Criterion-based rehabilitation according to Achilles tendon rupture in basketball” practice-oriented complete rehabilitation. In addition to a theoretical introduction to the subject, tests and assessments, such as the “Y-Balance Test” or various jump tests, are explained in detail and suitable exercises are demonstrated live. The aim is to provide participants with theoretical and practical know-how of rehabilitation after Achilles tendon rupture in competitive sports through the seminar.
