The registration numbers of travel and recreational vehicles are also increasing this year and offer workshops an exciting additional business – provided you have the necessary know-how and qualified personnel. But here, the industry lacks both skilled workers and young talent. Automechanika Frankfurt shows methods of caravan repair and also offers caravan live demonstrations. Graduates and career starters can find out about the new field of “caravan and motorhome technology” in the profession of body and vehicle construction mechanic at the fair.
The caravanning industry continues to grow. Despite faltering supply chains, the Caravaning Industrie Verband e.V. recorded (CVID) last year with over 100,000 new registrations in the first half of the year alone, his best half of its long-year caravan history. And this year’s figures show that the demand for caravans and campers continues. Motorhomes in particular have done it to the Germans: they are leaders in Europe when purchasing motorhomes. “This has developed into a lucrative growth market for the caravanning sector and offers workshops an interesting additional business,” states Olaf Mußhoff, Director Automechanika Frankfurt, “not only in maintenance and repair, but also in the areas of equipment, accessories and individualization.”
The necessary knowledge and technical know-how to maintain and repair travel and leisure vehicles as well as to expand and individualize, will be imparted in a new training profession. Thomas Aukamm, Managing Director Zentralverband Karosserie- und Fahrzeugtechnik e.V., explains: “With the new professional field of caravan and motorhome technology, the profession of body and vehicle construction mechanic becomes even more attractive. From probably August 2023, young people can learn this extensive training: From furniture construction for vehicle interior design, to (vehicle) electrics/electronics, gas/water installation, chassis/vehicle construction as well as exterior skin repair and much more. The great thing about it is that this profession is urgently needed both in industry and crafts.” In the Galleria, the Central Association of Body and Vehicle Technology (ZKF) informs about the new professional profile, which goes back to the initiative of the ZKF and the Caravanning Industry Association.
At the booth “Caravan Competence” in the outdoor area F11, the Central Association for Body and Vehicle Technology (ZKF) informs about the facets of caravan and motorhome repair. With practical examples and live demonstrations, participants can experience the special features of this specialization and find out about the certification as a “caravan specialist company”, whose network now includes more than 130 body shops nationwide.
Companies that present products and solutions in the caravan segment at the fair can be easily found using the special interest logo “Caravan Competence.”
