Finally, the time has come again: After a two-year corona break, it’s time from Friday, 16th to Sunday, 18th. September “Leash off – we celebrate again” when floating guests from all over the world enter the port of Hamburg. Visitors can expect a thrilling festival with the popular highlights, such as the entry and exit parade, the unique tugboat ballet, free live concerts on numerous open-air stages or Mediterranean offers of this year’s country partner Croatia. From the fish auction hall to the Elbphilharmonie as well as in the traditional ship harbor, the museum harbor Oevelgönne and Hansahafen in the Speicherstadt – the HAFENGEBURTSTAG HAMBURG offers unforgettable moments along the Elbe with a non-stop program for fans of the maritime world, families, culture or concert lovers.

 

Ship parades, dancing tugboats and fascinating guests from all over the world

 

Traditionally, the PORT BIRTHDAY HAMBURG begins with the International Ecumenical Service in the main church of St. Michaelis. The dialogue sermon with the motto “Full force ahead” is given by Chief Pastor Alexander Röder and actress Barbara Wussow. After the official opening by the First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, on the museum ship Rickmer Rickmers follows the big run-in parade at 1.30 p.m. led by the frigate Bavaria. The unique tugboat ballet will follow on Saturday, at 3 p.m. Several thousand hp harbor tugboats on the Elbe shove in front of the jetties and turn pirouettes into well-known melodies. Another highlight is the light production “Hamburg’s Sea of Lights”, presented by AIDA Cruises, on Saturday evening from 9:30 p.m. The focus of this impressive light show is the AIDAprima, which is anchored directly at the jetties. The crowning conclusion of the traditional visitor magnets is the large run-out parade on Sunday at 4.30 p.m. with the Polish tall ship Dar Mlodziezy as a guide ship.

 

The heart of the HAFENGEBURTSTAG HAMBURG is the water program. Visitors will experience pure action on the Elbe during the three days. Popular program items such as the daughter boat show trips, parades of museum and traditional ships as well as the helicopter sea rescue demonstration “SOS – Rescue in Action” provide entertainment. state-of-the-art watercraft from the DGzRS, fire brigade, Hamburg Port Authority, THW and the water protection police are also included. Your 150th The Hamburg fleet celebrates the fire brigade’s birthday with demonstrations of historic and modern fireboats.

 

Whether windjammer, tractors or cruise ships – the maritime diversity is great

 

Star guests of the PORT BIRTHDAY HAMBURG include the Polish 3-mast full ship Dar Mlodziezy and the two-mast gaff saver Eldorado. Firmly anchored in the Hansahafen, on Bremen’s quay, lies the new “sign” of the city, the four-masted barque BEIJING. The Flying P-Liner BEIJING can be reached via a shuttle service from the jetties and visited in guided small groups.

 

Attention is also attracted to the high-tech emergency vehicles of various institutions such as customs, fisheries protection and the Federal Police. Museum and traditional ships such as the Elbe and Holland deep-sea tractors also honor the Hanseatic city with their visit. In addition, a total of five cruise ships will be moored in the port of Hamburg on the three days: the AIDAprima, the Mein Schiff 6, the river cruise ship Frederic Chopin as well as the Europe and the Norwegian cruise ship Otto Sverdrup.

 

Shore leave with impressive program

 

On land, the HAFENGEBURTSTAG HAMBURG offers visitors special experiences against the unique backdrop of the Port of Hamburg. Action areas for children, rides, free live concerts on numerous open-air stages as well as culinary specialties from all over the world lure you to extensive shore leave. The country partner Croatia provides Mediterranean flair. Visitors can immerse themselves in the culture and way of life of the country on the Adriatic at the Kehrwiederspitze, inform themselves and enjoy entertainment and local specialties.

 

Classical music fans are looking forward to a “best-of” of concert recordings from the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

 

On the Square of German Unity in front of the Elbphilharmonie, performances from the unmistakable Hamburg landmark are shown free of charge on a large high-resolution video wall. In addition, many Hamburg museums and institutions participate in the country program with tours, guided tours, exhibitions and actions and ensure that even Hamburg residents experience their city anew and see it with different eyes.
