In addition to the tourist highlights in the field of gemstones and jewelry, such as the German Gemstone Museum, the German Mineral Museum, the Historical Pond Loop and the Steinkaulenberg Gemstone Mine, the Jakob Bengel Industrial Museum, which conveys the production of fashion jewelry very vividly until the 1930s, also opens its doors until midnight with free admission. During a visit to the German Gemmological Society and the University of Jewelry and Gemstone Design, visitors can understand the importance of training and teaching in terms of the required skills around stones and jewelry and the charisma these institutions have all over the world.
With free shuttle buses, interested exhibitors and trade visitors, but also locals, can get an idea of the seven institutions this evening in a relaxed atmosphere. In addition to free admission and guided tours, live music, regional beverage specialties or small culinary delicacies are also offered. To visit Steinkaulenberg and the Jakob Bengel Industrial Museum, a pre-registration at www.intergem.de is necessary, as these two institutions can only be visited by a guided tour. All other attractions can be visited freely throughout the evening.
At a kick-off event on the 23rd. June in the Göttenbach auditorium, the “Long Night of Gemstones” was presented to exhibitors and the press for the first time. Especially the video trailer for the event aroused great interest and the “Long Night of Gemstones” was very popular from all sides. The “Long Night of Gemstones” impressively presents that the region around Idar-Oberstein has acquired a unique competence around gemstones and jewelry over the centuries and has been further preserved and mediated by the German Gemmological Society and the University of Jewelry and Gemstone Design.
