Spot on Switzerland. The Alpine country hosts an exhibition and two events to bring Swiss knowledge, innovation and culture to the Low Lands.
On 30 July 2022, the Embassy invites the Floriade visitors to celebrate the national day of Switzerland. At 11:30 am, everyone is welcome to come to the Main stage for alphorn and yodel music, welcoming words by Commissioner-General of the Floriade Expo 2022, Annemarie Jorritsma, a flag ceremony as well as the traditional first of august speech by H.E. Ambassador Heinz Walker-Nederkoorn.
The Swiss community living in the Netherlands joins the festivities and the Dutch public can get to know more about the network of Swiss clubs in the Netherlands (Neue Helvetische Gesellschaft, NHG).
After the official ceremony, we will share and enjoy a traditional cheese dish called raclette at the Swiss food truck. From 13:00 on, typical Swiss music will be reinterpreted in a jazzy atmosphere at the Urban stage. To round up this day, visitors can visit the exhibition asking “CAN TECH SAVE THE WORLD”. In 10 informative panels it presents innovative solutions “made in Switzerland” to protect the environment. Visitors can discover Swiss start-ups reinventing housing insulation, capturing C02 from the air or designing solar facades with style. The exhibition thereby echoes the theme of this year’s Floriade “Growing green cities” and will remain in place after the Swiss day.
On July 6, the Embassy of Switzerland in the Netherlands organized the “Swiss-Dutch Dialogue on Sustainable Housing” in partnership with the Netherlands’ Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. As challenges in housing policy in Switzerland and the Netherlands are similar – availability, affordability and sustainability – this Dialogue promoted the exchange among policymakers, practitioners and investors on housing policy and urban development approaches and instruments in both countries.
