This autumn, the international bar industry is returning to Berlin from all countries. However, one country will be brought to the fore this year: Denmark. It is this year’s partner country of the Bar Convent Berlin. From the 10th to the 12th October, visitors can discover the Pavilion of the “Country of Honour” and a special Speakeasy Bar from Copenhagen and taste a touch of Denmark.
“Skål!” – this exclamation will probably be heard more often at the BCB this year. The Scandinavian toast is the program. Denmark was finally selected as the official partner country of this year’s trade event for the bar industry.
Denmark is considered one of the happiest countries in the world and is known for its unique lifestyle – hygge. The Danish term refers to a form of get-together, cosiness and enjoyment. This positive way of life is also reflected in the Danish bar scene – perfect for the BCB, where the industry meets and enjoy good drinks are in the foreground.
We are very pleased that Denmark is our Country of Honour this year. The country not only offers a variety of high-quality spirits and brands, but also impresses with its unique bar scene and exciting personalities. We would also like to make this diversity and the special Danish spirit tangible together at the BCB this year,” says Petra Lassahn, Event Director of the BCB.
Denmark and the BCB
In recent years, international interest in Danish spirits and other mixology products has grown strongly. In addition, the country is not only a leader when it comes to sustainability in production and environmentally friendly processes, but is also home to some of the best bars in Europe, such as the “Ruby” or the “Duck & Cover” from Copenhagen. As a partner country of this year’s BCB, the Danish spirits scene once again receives the attention it deserves. In addition, the BCB cooperates with Mixology International, which organizes the Danish pavilion.
“For brands that want to gain an international foothold, the Bar Convent Berlin is simply a must. The industry event offers a unique opportunity for our Danish exhibitors to make valuable contacts with bartenders, dealers and manufacturers, as well as to get to know new products and trends,” says Zander Lauritzen Hansen, CEO of Mixology International, Owner of Scandic Bar and President of the Danish Bartender’s Association.
A variety of Danish spirits awaits visitors
The Danish spirits industry is very creative and has a wide selection of different spirits, mainly made with local plants. Among the best known are aquavit and schnapps, but Danish gin, rum and whiskey are also very popular. The industry is still very inspired by the old tradition as it introduces new ways of distillation. Many manufacturers remain true to tradition, but try to find new and innovative ways to produce in an environmentally friendly way.
15 Danish top brands under one roof
With a total of 15 brands, the host country is represented at this year’s BCB, including 12 different spirits and blenders. The Danish pavilion is located in Hall 18 and combines the best and most innovative Danish products that are now to be presented to the world. These brands have been there so far: A Clean Spirit, Nordic Gin House, Copenhagen Distillery, Copenhagen Alcohol, Bite (The Syrup Company), Plateau Spirits, Bar’ Djus, Ish Spirit, Scape Spirits, Hammer & Sons, Rebæl, Bornholm Spirits, Twisted Leaf, Nykur Vodka, TS Warehouse. But also beyond the Danish pavilion, other companies from the partner country are represented at the BCB, such as 1423 and A Verre Co.. In addition, further special promotions as well as exciting program items are currently being planned on the BCB stages around Denmark.
Speakeasy Bar with the “Kyros & Co.” from Copenhagen
The bar Kyros & Co. as well as its distillery & brewery A Verre Co. – both based in the Danish capital – are fully dedicated to taste. For the BCB, the team around Christian Tang will arrive personally and move the bar from Copenhagen to Berlin to bring a very special Speakeasy Bar to life in Hall 11.1 for three days – with their own portfolio of 17 products as well as with products from friends who, in their view represent the best taste. BCB 2022 is all about taste and aroma as well as the interaction between guest and bartender in the Speakeasy Bar: “We believe in the conversation instead of a menu. Not as a gimmick, but as an instrument of discovery for the guest, but also for us. Almost all our products come from this discovery,” says Christian Tang. Further information about the cooperation will follow shortly. But one thing can already be revealed: It will be quite hygge!
