Foresight. Sustainable architecture with glass – The International Architecture Congress
A traditional part of the supporting program is the International Architecture Congress. In the program, eight representatives of well-known architecture and engineering firms who pioneer planning and building with glass present their exciting topics. Among other things, it will be discussed what contribution glass facades can make to the independence from fossil resources and to the well-being of people in a warmer climate and what technical and design potential glass offers in architecture today. The Congress for the Fields of Architecture and Interior Design is recognized by the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia as a training event.

Innovation show “glass technology live”
The focus of the supporting program is the innovation show “glass technology live” (gtl), in Hall 11. Under the title “NEXT IN GLASS” it shows the concentrated innovative power of the industry. In addition to new technologies, exhibits from scientific glass research are also presented. The innovation show is organized by the university network of the four technical universities Darmstadt, Delft, Dortmund and Dresden.
One of the highlights is the “Ziptruss” of the Delft University of Technology. Forces that act in structures are abstract and cannot be observed directly. The “Ziptruss” makes forces that act in structures visible in a spectacular way: The structural elements themselves light up and indicate pressure and tensile forces acting in real time. A rail with a seat allows visitors, with their own body weight, to exercise the structure by force and move it along the length of the beam. The effects on the traverse are visualized by an impressive dynamic pattern. All exhibits of glass technology live address at least one of the trend topics of glasstec 2022. Interested parties can find further information about glass technology live and the guided tours of the Innovation Show online at www.glasstec.de/1530
Crafts LIVE and WorldSkills Germany@glasstec
This year, the special area Handwerk LIVE in Hall 10 shows once again the top innovations for the glass processing craft in practical application. This year’s motto is: World Championship of Professions. At WorldSkills Germany@glasstec, young glaziers from all over Germany compete against each other and measure their skills in the field of glass construction technology. The winner secures the starting place for the “EuroSkills 2023” in Poland in this qualification competition. The five participants from Germany have already been determined. Three more starting places will be held until the 20th. September occupied by international participants. Information about the five German participants can be found at: www.glasstec.de.
Organizers are the Bundesinnungsverband des Glaserhandwerks e.V. and the Bundesverband der Jungglaser und Fensterbauer; partners and sponsors are Bohle, Hegla and ift Rosenheim. The competition formats also include the Reff assembly, in which the fastest team wins. Registration for the competition is possible on site. With a live demonstration on the fire resistance of fire protection glass, ift Rosenheim shows how glass can ensure the safe closure of the room in the event of a fire. Through the use of wire mirror glass, the flamed fire chamber and the different surface temperatures are made visible during fire testing. The supporting program is rounded off by the special exhibition “glass art”, which shows art objects made of glass. The spectrum of exhibiting artists from internationally renowned galleries ranges from glass vases to sculptural objects to stained glass.
START-UP ZONE: Market entry for young companies from the glass industry
This year, eleven young and innovative companies from Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland are using the START-UP ZONE in Hall 11 to present themselves to the top decision-makers from the glass industry as well as experts from business, research and politics.
