Twenty experts from Spain and Portugal met in the second organizing committee of Termatalia to outline the program of professional activities and also those aimed at the general public.

The last week of September, the province of Ourense hosts Termatalia (International Fair of Thermal Tourism, Health and Welfare); the International Congress of Thermal Tourism organized by EHTTA and the Provincial Council of Ourense with the support of the UNWTO and the XXI National Congress of the Spanish Society of Medical Hydrology.

Everything is ready to celebrate what will be the 20th anniversary of Termatalia, International Fair of Thermal Tourism, Health and Welfare that is held in Expourense (Ourense – Galicia – Spain) on September 29 and 30, 2022. This event coincides in space and time with two important events that will make the province of Ourense the world epicenter of thermalism during the last week of September 2022 and that will bring together health tourism professionals from about thirty countries.

In addition to Termatalia, the International Congress of Thermal Tourism is held from September 27 to 29, 2022 and is organized by the European Association of Historical Thermal Cities (EHTTA) and the Provincial Council of Ourense under the protection of the World Tourism Organization. On the afternoon of September 30 and until October 2, between Expourense and the Balneario de Laias, the XXI National Congress of the Spanish Society and Medical Hydrology is held. In the words of the director of Termatalia, Rogelio Martínez, “there are three very important, parallel and complementary events, and I want to highlight the excellent collaboration between the organizers of the three events to coordinate the participation of as many professionals as possible in all of them. The success of each of these meetings is everyone’s success.” Although these events will be able to be followed virtually from anywhere in the world, it has been firmly committed to face-to-face with the aim that that week in Ourense will be the great international meeting point for thermal and health tourism professionals after the pandemic.

Termatalia 2022

About twenty experts from Spain and Portugal participated this morning in the second meeting of the Termatalia advisory committee in which the details of the professional activities were outlined, and also those aimed at the general public, which will take place during September 29 and 30 in Expourense as a complete fair, in person and as a great meeting point for the international thermal community.

During this meeting, the director of the fair, Rogelio Martínez, presented the actions related to the three axes of Termatalia 2022: business, specialized training and relational capital that involves the reception of professionals from about thirty countries.

  • Business: Termatalia will receive exhibitors from about thirty countries in Europe and America. Among the countries that have firmly opted for this edition, it is worth mentioning Uruguay, which has confirmed the presence at the fair of its Deputy Minister of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, who will participate accompanied by a large entourage of thermal entrepreneurs from this country that has increased their interest and participation in Termatalia in this edition. The tourism trading exchange is also practically closed, in which about twenty tour operators from Spain, Germany, Canada, Colombia, the United States and France participate and who will meet with the exhibitors of Termatalia.
  • Training: The program of the Termatalia 2022 Professional Technical Conference, which has been organized by the Vice-Rectorate of the University of Vigo, is now closed. These conferences will address thermal water from different perspectives: tourist, heritage, scientific and legal. In addition to the round tables on water organized by the University, the Termatalia Conference also include the first session of the Congress of the Society of Medical Hydrology that will take place on Friday afternoon, September 30. This session will have the participation of prestigious professionals in global hydrology, many of them authentic gurus for professionals in the sector as is the case, to give just one example, of Professor Johan Lambeck of Switzerland, a world reference in aquatic therapy.

  • These days will also include the presentation to tour operators and specialized press of those thermal destinations that bet on Termatalia such as the province of Ourense itself, Uruguay or the regions of Murcia and Extremadura that are already close collaborators of the fair, to which on this occasion the Thermal Cities of Catalonia are added. These days are complemented by specific training courses on mineral waters and thermal peloides.

  • Activities for the general public

When the professional actions were completed, during this meeting the activities that will be able to be carried out at the fair were also outlined so that the general public knows everything that Termatalia has to offer. As usual, there will be a Water Bar with international brands from 4 countries that will participate in the XIX International Water Tasting; a massage area; activities related to yoga wellness and a healthy eating area that includes cooking workshops, talks on conscious eating and anthropometric measurements. In addition to different companies, Termatalia has also involved vocational training students from branches related to wellness and hospitality and have already confirmed the participation in the activities of several vocational training centers in Galicia and Portugal.

One of the novelties of this year is the celebration in Expourense of the World Coffee Challenge – Termatalia 2022 organized by the French company Alternative Café. As a result of it, this year there will also be coffee as a Coffee Bar or a workshop that explains the importance of water when making a good coffee. This contest has been excellently received and will involve roasted coffee producers from more than 15 countries in the Americas, Africa and Asia.
