Bus, Truck and Van of the Year as well as Truck Innovation Award – first award of the “International Cargobike of The Year 2022” – Presentation of a high-performance charging project for trucks
At the start of IAA TRANSPORTATION, the renowned industry awards “International Truck of the Year”, “International Bus of the Year”, “International Van of the Year” and the “Truck Innovation Award” will be presented at the IAA “Stars of the Year” on Monday evening, September 19th. As part of the event, an association of the automotive industry e.V. (VDA) funded high-performance charging project for trucks.
The event will be opened by VDA President Hildegard Müller and Ralf Blessmann, Head of Automotive at Capgemini in Germany, main sponsor of the event.
On Thursday, September 22, in partnership with HUSS Verlag, the “International Cargobike of the Year” will also be handed over for the first time at the IAA’s own Cargobike Course.
With its concept, IAA TRANSPORTATION stands for the diversity of the transport and logistics sector. With the five awards, IAA TRANSPORTATION shows its international importance as the leading platform in the industry. We are very pleased to welcome the jury presidents, the juries and the candidates to Hanover. The awards stand for what we as VDA and IAA appreciate about the industry: enthusiasm for innovation, creativity and the claim to get better and better, says Jürgen Mindel, Managing Director of VDA.
Bus, Truck and Van of the Year as well as Truck Innovation Award
At the start of the “Stars of the Year” the “International Van of the Year” (short: IVOTY) will be awarded. Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman of IVOTY, comments on the diversity and close competition: “The jury of the International Van of the Year Award (IVOTY) is pleased that IAA Transportation offers the stage for the announcement and presentation of the trophy to the overall winner. The main criterion for the nomination and choice of a van as the “International Van of the Year” is its contribution to the high efficiency, safety, environmental and sustainability standards in the transport of light goods by road. This year’s finalists all have an electric drive, which paves the way into the future.”
This is followed by the “Bus of the Year” award. Tom Terjesen, jury president, says: “The Bus of the Year” award is the most important prize for the global bus industry. We are very pleased that we can award the prize as part of the IAA TRANSPORTATION. The bus industry is also an important part of the transformation towards sustainable mobility.”
At the end of the event, the Truck of the Year and the Truck Innovation Award will be presented. Jury President Gianenrico Griffini emphasizes the importance of the award for the entire industry today: “Over the years, this award has become a benchmark for the automotive industry. Today, the “Truck of the Year” group comprises 34 commercial vehicle journalists and magazines worldwide with a total readership of more than 1.1 million truck drivers. The same group of journalists launched a new award in 2018, the “Truck Innovation” award, which takes into account alternative trucks and advanced transport solutions. We are very pleased to appreciate the concentrated innovative power of our industry in Hanover at IAA TRANSPORTATION.”
The event is supported by the main sponsor Capgemini: “Capgemini congratulates all award winners with all their hearts. A new, sustainable ecosystem of the logistics industry needs designers who carry ideas with responsibility and foresight to implementation. We are pleased to participate in this common future,” says Ralf Blessmann, Head of Automotive at Capgemini in Germany. The commercial vehicle industry is undergoing the greatest transformation in its history. At the same time, innovation is more difficult than ever, because none of us can meet the great challenges alone. If you want to be successful in this ecosystem in the future, you have to work together. That’s why we are the first global IT and engineering service provider to bundle our expertise in the commercial vehicle sector and will invest even more specifically in the development of tailor-made offers for this industry in the future.”
“International Cargobike of the Year”
On Thursday, the “International Cargobike of the Year” ceremony will also take place for the first time.
The award of this award at IAA TRANSPORTATION shows that the event considers logistics as a holistic concept and involves all players in the transformation to climate neutrality: Cargo bikes are also an important component for emission-free and city-friendly logistics.
Without a focus on the development of sustainable transport solutions for the last mile, the logistics transition towards climate-friendly transport will not succeed. It is decided in particular in urban conurbations. We see the use of electrified cargo bikes and trailers as an important element and want to promote the interest of suppliers and customers with our test and technology award “International Cargobike of the Year.” We are very pleased that together with the VDA at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2022 we have the opportunity to award outstanding products in this field in three categories and thus reward the innovation achievements of the manufacturers, says Rainer Langhammer, Managing Director of HUSS-VERLAG.
All accredited journalists of the IAA TRANSPORTATION are cordially invited to the event on Monday evening, September 19th and to the award ceremony on Thursday, September 22nd.
