The fair had to be postponed twice. After four years, it is the first time that the industry has met live again. “Nothing is about a personal meeting, about a reunion of old acquaintances and making new contacts at the exhibition stands and at the numerous specialist events as part of the fair. No video presentation, no matter how sophisticated, replaces the experience of seeing, listening to, smelling and sometimes sitting on-the-site products, emphasizes Martin Ecknig, Chairman of the Management Board of Messe Berlin.

Together with EU Commissioner Adina Vălean and Federal Minister of Transport Dr. Volker Wissing, he will attend InnoTrans 2022 on the 20th. September 2022.

Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport, sees the mobility turnaround as a European task: “Rail will be at the center of European transport policy in the coming years, and InnoTrans, as the leading international trade fair for transport technologies, offers a valuable insight into how our plans are becoming reality. I look forward to seeing and experiencing some of the 250 innovations that will be exhibited at InnoTrans this year and will help make rail transport and public transport more sustainable and resilient.”

In total, 2,834 exhibitors from 56 countries will be guests at InnoTrans 2022, occupying the entire exhibition center including the new hub27 exhibition hall and the outdoor areas. In 42 exhibition halls and on a gross area of 200,000 square meters, the entire world of rail transport technology and mobility presents itself. “InnoTrans offers a worldwide unique market coverage. The offer ranges from A to Z to drive, buses, cyber security, ERTMS, AI, maintenance, trams, hydrogen trains to two-way vehicles. I am also particularly looking forward to the many international delegations such as Egypt, Korea, Japan, Brazil, USA, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia, says Kerstin Schulz, Director of InnoTrans. 29 international associations, 15 industry associations and 20 transport companies are exhibitors at InnoTrans.

The opening with more than 1,000 invited guests is under the motto “The Future of Mobility in Times of Climate Change.” A discussion with Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG, Michal Krapinec, Director General of Czech Railways (České drahy), Henri Poupart-Lafarge, President Alstom Transport S.A., Michael Peter, CEO Siemens Mobility GmbH and Peter Spuhler, CEO Stadler Rail AG takes up the topic following the opening speeches.

Innovations for the climate

Sustainability is also an important issue for manufacturers. In total, visitors can look forward to around 250 world premieres from the five trade fair segments Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Interiors and Tunnel Construction.

For easier orientation, the innovations are characterized by a button on the stand and in the hall plans. In the World Innovation Guide (print and on innotrans.de) there are detailed descriptions of the new products and services.

On 3,500 running rail meters, InnoTrans also shows 124 new vehicles in track and outdoor area. These include, for example, trains with hydrogen drive. For example, Siemens Mobility presents the next generation of hydrogen trains with the Mireo Plus H as well as the Mireo Plus B, which is equipped with a modular, powerful battery system. Alstom’s hydrogen-powered passenger train Coradia iLint is now in commercial operation in Germany. The passenger train will run twice a day from Berlin-Spandau to Berlin-Ostbahnhof. Alstom’s exhibits in the open-air area include the multi-capacity Coradia Stream double-capacity regional train and the Traxx locomotive with last mile option, which is equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS).

Stadler is waiting with seven vehicles this year. For the first time, the company presents to the public the hydrogen-powered FLIRT H2 multiple unit for American passenger transport. Stadler also presents the tram of the latest generation TINA. The tram has a totally integrated drive, which for the first time enables a completely new interior concept that does not require steps and platforms above the drives.

For the first time, the Südostbayernbahn (SOB) presents a train of ideas that it has developed. This “future laboratory on rails” is characterized by ten different modules, seven specially developed seating systems, a newly designed entrance area and Office cabins and a new on-board information system that also shows the free seats. In July, the SOB received the Innovation Award of the Federal Association of Local Rail Transport (BSN).

The Slovak freight wagon manufacturer Tatravagónka complements its hall stand with six vehicles on the outdoor area. Alstom, Vossloh, Plasser and Theurer, Robel, Daimler Truck, Thales, Hitachi and many other exhibitors will also be guests.

The InnoTrans Bus Display is also located outdoors. On the 500-meter-long test drive track, visitors can experience 14 new buses in the summer garden of Messe Berlin. Platform for complementary mobility

Rail transport is increasingly part of networked mobility. With the new Mobility+ trade fair area, InnoTrans 2022 takes this trend into account. Exhibitors of complementary mobility offers meet national and international transport companies, transport associations and administrations and present their concepts and systems to the industry.

The spectrum ranges from exhibitors from shared mobility to mobility apps that allow users to inform, book and pay, to technology solutions such as on-demand driving systems or flying objects such as drones. Solutions for driving mediation for the first and last mile such as providers of ride pooling are also represented. New forms of networked mobility are discussed in the Mobility+ Corner. In five other “Speakers’ Corners” companies give impulses to new products and industry news in keynotes.

Kickstart for the career

For many exhibitors, the recruitment of qualified specialists is a central issue. For this reason, InnoTrans 2022 expanded its career program, the campus, in Hall 4.2. September from 2 p.m. At the elevator pitch, the candidates introduce themselves to the companies in 90 seconds. All exhibitors are given the opportunity to publish vacancies.
