【DE】Economic situation of the nautical industry in Switzerland season 2022

After the two strong years 2020 and 2021, the first half of the nautical financial year 2022 was also good to very good. The extremely nice and warm weather has kept the demand for new boats high and boat owners were able to enjoy their boats often and much. Towards the end of the summer, the low water level was sometimes a bigger problem in various waters and in some places boats had to be watered out. With the start of Interboot 2022, the trade fair business also started for the coming season. The Swiss participation in Interboot is satisfactory, but there is still the “problem” that some exhibitors could not participate because they do not have boats available. We are optimistic that after the two pandemic-influenced editions, more visitors from Switzerland will once again go to the fair. After the discontinuation of SuisseNautic, Interboot has increased in importance for Swiss shipyards. With a comprehensive range of offers, a rich supporting program and excellent logistical conditions for exhibitors, the fair is and remains for us the most valuable nautical exhibition in border countries for all water sports enthusiasts.

For sailboats, sales fell slightly in the first half of the year. Throughout the year, the Boat Builders’ Association assumes that this trend will continue for the second half of the year. The value of the units sold – both in the area of larger sailing yachts and small sailors – is also decreasing. Projected traded units until the end of the year approx. 350 pieces worth approx. 10 million Swiss francs. As has been the case since 2000, an increase in matriculations can once again be observed in motor boats. In the first half of the year, the previous year’s sales figures were exceeded by an average of 10%. Traded units approx. 1,230 pieces with a value of approx. 97 million Swiss francs.

The number of matriculated recreational boats (99,000 pieces) has increased minimally. Due to the exceptionally beautiful and hot summer of 2022, the boats were used a lot. This suggests that the post-season business in the areas of service and maintenance and services (service work, repairs, winter storage, etc.) will be similar or even higher than in previous years.
