【DE】First decarbXpo sets impulse for energy transition in industry and commerce

The first international trade fair for industrial and commercial decarbonization, decarbXpo, has come to a successful end today. Around 100 exhibitors from 15 countries presented their technologies and solutions in Hall 9 at the Düsseldorf exhibition center. The fair as well as three simultaneous conferences have shown that investors and industrial users want to exchange ideas intensively on new technologies and cooperations around climate protection. Parallelism with glasstec, the leading event in the glass industry, attracted additional attention: Production companies in the glass industry visited decarbXpo for discussions about reducing energy costs, CO2 emissions and energy storage.

The premiere of decarbXpo has proven that it successfully networks providers of decarbonization technologies with user industries as a networking and infotainment platform. Visitors from more than 45 nations also confirm the global relevance of the topic and the fair,” says Bernd Jablonowski, Executive Director, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH.

The very well-attended accompanying conferences and forums of decarbXpo prove the high need for knowledge and transfer among exhibitors and visitors to decarbXpo. We would like to thank all partners and speakers for their support and cooperation,” adds Malte Seifert, Director of decarbXpo.

Start-ups and innovations are particularly in demand

At the first edition of decarbXpo, the focus was on start-ups with their innovations around decarbonization. The range of solutions shown ranged from hydrogen technologies to industrial heat in high temperature ranges to technologies for carbon dioxide separation.

“Start-ups can give the established industry enormous innovative strength to get decarbonization projects off the ground quickly. decarbXpo offers us an effective platform to support established companies from various industries with our young, innovative

Bringing companies together,” says Uwe Kerkmann, Managing Director of Europe’s first hydrogen innovation hub, H2UB.

As part of a close cooperation with the economic development of the state capital Düsseldorf and the leading start-up network Plug and Play, further international start-ups could be won over as exhibitors and speakers for the forums of the fair:

“I was very pleased that the interest in innovations and cooperation at decarbXpo was so high. Our start-ups came into contact with potential industrial users, potential partners and investors, a successful start to the event. We would also like to thank the Düsseldorf Economic Development Agency for the opportunity to exhibit here,” says Adrian Grußendorf, co-founder of the innovation platform Plug and Play Sustainability NRW.

In addition to the young companies, established, industrial providers also used the fair for networking and customer discussions regarding industrial decarbonization. As a system supplier in the steel industry with a 150-year history, SMS group presented its solutions at the fair.

“The energy-intensive industries are facing perhaps the biggest change in their history. In the future, climate-neutral production processes will be required. The technologies necessary for this must be made visible across industries. This is exactly what decarbXpo has achieved for the first time in a bundled form,” says Burkhard Dahmen, CEO of the SMS group and Chairman of the leading trade fair METEC next year.

Hydrogen as an enabler for decarbonization in different industries

The production and application of hydrogen in different industries was a focus topic of the event both on the part of the exhibitors and at the parallel conferences IRES, ecoMetals Day and #P2X Conference. In order to further expand this focus, Messe Düsseldorf, as the organizer of the leading trade fairs in the glass, metal and plastics industry, will continue to use its extensive network with several hundred thousand contacts in the future. In this way, the trade fair company is committed to the use of green hydrogen as an enabler for decarbonization in process industries.

The first decarbXpo has lived up to its claim to offer an effective platform for networking the hydrogen economy with users from different process industries. From our #P2X conference and the discussions with exhibitors and trade fair visitors, I take many impulses with me for further work in the VDMA,” comments Peter Müller-Baum, Managing Director of the Power-to-X for Applications Working Group at VDMA, on the first edition of decarbXpo.

The next decarbXpo will take place on a rotational basis in Q4 2023 at the Düsseldorf exhibition center.
