【DE】DBU becomes Partner of BCB

The Deutsche Barkeeper Union e.V. (“German Barkeeper Union e.V.”; “DBU”) is entering into a partnership with BCB and will also be present at the trade event for the first time this year with its own stand. The focus will be on education with exciting workshops, as well as the exchange with and within the community.

It’s official

DBU will be an exhibitor and partner at Bar Convent Berlin for the first time this year. Over the course of the three days, they want to offer their booth visitors both a varied educational programme, while also using the trade event to network and provide information about the DBU. “BCB is of course very exciting for us: it is not only the largest trade fair in our industry, but also has a very high proportion of German visitors. We are very much looking forward to being part of the event this year,” said Maren Meyer, Chairwoman of DBU.

Two in One: The DBU at BCB

The DBU will have a two-part booth at this year’s BCB. One half, focuses on education: In the workshop area, visitors can further their education, try out new things and listen to interesting lectures. The second area of the booth invites visitors to get in contact in a relaxed atmosphere. Here, visitors can network, find out more about the DBU over a tasty drink and, if required, apply for membership directly.

A total of 12 workshops planned

Education is one of the DBU’s main focuses. Four workshops are therefore planned for each day of the fair, each lasting 45 minutes. Around 20 participant seats will be available per workshop. Visitors do not need to register in advance to take part, but can simply drop by. Freely according to the motto: “First come, first serve!” More information about the workshops will be available soon in the BCB programme.

What lasts long, finally becomes good

Already since 2019, the DBU and BCB have been in talks about cooperation opportunities. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the project had to be postponed again and again with a heavy heart. Despite all this, the interest in cooperation and the motivation of both sides could not be slowed down: in 2022, the time has finally come and the professional association and the bar show are finally making common cause. “For a long time, it has been not only our wish, but also a wish of many of our members that we are represented at BCB. It is therefore an exciting pilot project for the DBU and we are very curious to see how it will be received by visitors,” said Christian Gentemann, Head of Education & Community at the DBU.

The BCB team is also very excited about the collaboration: “The DBU not only offers a broad network within the industry, but also has very strong know-how. We are convinced that BCB as well as our visitors will benefit from this partnership”, says Petra Lassahn, BCB Event Director.

What does the DBU actually do?

The DBU is a professional association and the lobby for all those who are active in the German bar industry. Its focus is divided into three pillars: education, community and lobbying. Among other things, the DBU is committed to consistent and well-founded further training of young professionals, actively promotes exchange within the industry, and represents the interests of its members and beyond at the political level.

Exciting training opportunities

Throughout Germany, the DBU offers a diverse programme of education events. Its workshops are divided into three categories, each with a different focus: “How to” is about a specific topic, which is discussed and elaborated in detail with an expert, such as the question “How do I set up a bar?” In “The Taste”, on the other hand, everything revolves around the topic of taste: from product tastings to training sensory skills. With “The View”, workshop participants get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the country’s best gastronomies, where they learn about processes, backgrounds and concepts.

Become a DBU member

Membership of the DBU brings with it a number of advantages, such as various events for further training and the opportunity to take part in the German Cocktail Championship (“Deutsche Cocktailmeisterschaft“). In addition, there are other goodies such as special conditions, a job exchange and, on top of that, every member receives a free day ticket for BCB every year.
