European Mobility Week: Day of Action on the 17th September / Free travel on the light rail line U6 to Stuttgart Airport and Messe
“Better connected” – under this motto, the European Mobility Week of Friday, 16. September, to Thursday, 22. September 2022, to discover new ways to be smart and flexible mobile. The Europe-wide campaign of the EU Commission not only wants to show how people and places can be connected in a variety of ways, but also to encourage topics such as networking, land distribution and sustainable mobility to be thought together. More than 100 actions are taking place decentrally in and around Stuttgart.

Mobility point at the Stadionstraße stop in Echterdingen
On the day of action on Saturday, 17. September, the city of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Messe Stuttgart, Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG (SSB) and Stuttgart Airport will be at the start together to show the full range of sustainable and innovative offers in terms of mobility. At the mobility point at the Echterdingen Stadionstraße stop, interested parties can have different types of mobility and the appropriate service explained at the stand of the city of Leinfelden-Echterdingen (LE) and Stadtwerke LE. From bicycle boxes, charging infrastructure for cars to the regional bicycle rental system RegioRadStuttgart – it is shown on site how it works. At the Stadionstraße mobility point, fun and games are also provided with an XXL table football and a T-wall reaction wall. The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) offers a bicycle course for young and old and a rickshaw. Guests can also find out about public transport in Stuttgart at the SSB’s service mobile.
Guests are entertained throughout the day by the Spielmannszug Leinfelden-Echterdingen, and at 3 p.m. the LE Marching Band has an appearance. From 4.15 p.m., VVS Board Member Thomas Moser and Leinfelden-Echterdingen’s First Mayor Benjamin Dihm will be available to the public for all questions about mobility. As a special highlight, there is free travel in zone 1 of the VVS area and on the entire line of the U6 light rail from Gerlingen to the terminus airport/fair. Passengers of the U6 between Echterdingen and the airport can look forward to a little surprise from the SSB.
Messe Stuttgart action stand at the Messepiazza
Just a few steps away from the final stop of the U6 at the airport is Messe Stuttgart’s action stand on the trade fair plaza. There you will find an overview of Messe Stuttgart’s events that deal with the topic of mobility, various hands-on activities and further information on the trade fair company’s commitment to sustainability.
Special guided tours at the airport
Stuttgart Airport offers free special guided tours that focus on the linking of various means of transport – with aviation, S-Bahn and light rail, road, bus lines for long-distance transport and public transport and in the future also with a train connection to regional and long-distance transport, the state airport is already an intermodal transport hub. The tours start at the SkyLand Visitor Center in Terminal 3, Level 4. Registration takes place via e-mail via www.stuttgart-airport.com/mobilitätswoche (registration possible from 7. September 2022). Children can make small paper planes in SkyLand. Visitors who prefer to look for large aircraft can do so from the visitor terrace, admission is free (entrance via Terminal 3, level 5).
If you are well informed at the various stations and keep your eyes and ears open, you will quickly have the solution for the mobility quiz ready (participation cards are available). Four entrance tickets for the Stuttgarter Messeherbst, a gift voucher for a Baden-Württemberg ticket (2. Class) for up to five people, a 10-day ticket from the SSB for two zones and a voucher from the BDS Bund der Selbständige Leinfelden-Echterdingen over 50 euros.
