【DE】InnoTrans Bus Display: Experience the bus revolution live

Trade visitors of InnoTrans 2022 get a vivid impression of technical bus innovations with 14 buses at the Berlin exhibition center. In the bus display, exhibitors present their vehicles, alternative drives and the associated charging infrastructure. In live operation, buses make their rounds on the 500-meter-long test drive in the summer garden – called the demonstration course – and invite visitors to a test drive.

Solaris presents world first in the bus display

The Polish manufacturer Solaris presents the Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen, an 18-meter bus with hydrogen as the main energy source, for the first time at a trade fair. As with the shorter version, the Urbino 12, state-of-the-art fuel cells serve as a miniature hydrocarbon power plant on board. The Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen is one of the approximately 250 world premieres that will be shown to a professional audience for the first time this year at InnoTrans.

New electric bus for Berlin comes from the Netherlands

Ebusco from the Netherlands presents the all-electric city bus 3.0, which, according to the manufacturer, redefines the limits of the current bus design in the pursuit of sustainable public transport. In addition to the current 3.0, the company will also present the Ebusco 2.2, the new electric bus for Berlin. “We recently delivered the first of 90 Ebusco buses to Germany’s largest public transport company,” reports Peter Bijvelds, Managing Director of Ebusco. The bus was taken from the company’s headquarters to Berlin. The distance of 636.8 km could be covered without intermediate charging. The battery was still charged on arrival. “We hope that many companies will follow the example and buy emission-free buses so that we as an industry can drive even more safe and climate-neutral kilometers,” says Bijvelds and adds: “We are happy to be back at InnoTrans. It’s a great opportunity to talk to many industry colleagues again and present our innovations.”

100% emission-free for the cities of tomorrow

Škoda can also be found with the two innovative models H’CITY and T’CITY 36TR in the bus display: The Škoda T’CITY 36TR is a 100% low-floor O-bus made with a new body specially developed for Škoda. The ŠKODA H’CITY is a new hydrogen bus that uses PEM fuel cells and batteries as a power source. As part of the ŠKODA “New Energy-Vehicles” it is to be the solution for emission-free cities of tomorrow.

The Belgian company Van Hool presents the A12 battery electric at InnoTrans. The Van Hool A series is a new series with 100% emission-free scheduled buses. With this series, the company is expanding its portfolio in the field of environmentally friendly scheduled buses for public urban and regional transport.

Solutions without compromise

VDL Bus & Coach goes one step further. “While ‘Aiming for Zero’ has been the goal in recent years, zero emissions are now the norm for the livable city,” says Alex de Jong, Business Manager Public Transport at VDL Bus & Coach. “This requires new technologies and a different way of thinking. VDL’s new Citea bus concept offers solutions without compromise.” Batteries in the floor, a one-piece composite sidewall, a clever energy management and air conditioning system as well as an ergonomic driver environment are the five most important innovations of the new Citea product range consisting of four length variants and five types that VDL Bus & Coach presents at InnoTrans.

Other exhibitors in the bus display are, for example, Karsan Automotive,OTOKAR Europe, SBRS, K-Bus, Ventura Systems, Altas Auto, Kiepe Electric and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane.

Diverse lectures around the bus

The new technologies and their use in public transport are accompanied by lectures and debates. On Thursday, the 22nd September 2022, the Public Transport Forum will take place at 10 a.m. at hub27, where representatives from politics, administration and transport companies will discuss innovative strategies for the success of the transport turnaround. From 2 p.m., the subsequent International Bus Forum will be all about “Mobility as a Citizen Service”: a reliable offer from door to door, easy to experience, cost-effective, networked as well as flexible and strong to adapt to individual needs.

The Speaker’s Corner also offers a variety of lectures about the bus: The Voith Group presents H2 storage systems for buses and rail vehicles, Optibus presents a case study on saving EUR 600,000 in three months: The value of digital transformation in the planning and scheduling of public transport. Deutsche Bahn / Bonvoyo discusses new ways for public transport and the mobility budget. PwC also wants to rethink public transport and shape the future of mobility with artificial intelligence, while Door2Door is about on-demand public transit and the development of the full potential of a bus network.
