Colorful mix of topics was well received by visitors

The fashion home craft and its plus fairs holiday dreams powered by Reise + Camping, kreativ.essen and NRW – The best of the region have come to an end successfully. From 10th to 13th November 2022, more than 340 exhibitors showed products and innovations around home, hobby and lifestyle at Messe Essen. The large consumer fair in the heart of the Ruhr area offered a varied mix of offers – from household helpers and home accessories to regional specialties and craft supplies to holiday trips and camping vehicles. Particularly popular with visitors were the testing of new products and the many hands-on activities.

“We are very pleased that we were able to inspire around 30,000 visitors with the fashion home craft this year,” says Sabina Großkreuz, Head of Marketing at Messe Essen. “Your own home as an oasis of well-being and time with the family are gaining in importance today’s world. The fair was a welcome platform for consumers to get new ideas, try out new products and be entertained at the same time. The combination of participation, shopping and experience was particularly well received,” summarizes Großkreuz.

Experience character convinces audience

Getting new ideas and trying out products stood with 45 percent or 44 percent at the top of the list of reasons for visiting. The exhibitors presented their offer in live demonstrations. Treats and drinks could be explicitly tasted, such as at the Genussmesse NRW – Das Beste aus der Region in Hall 6. In Hall 5, the holiday dreams inspired the next trip, including test beds in the camping vehicles on display. The selection ranged from simple roof tents to compact camper vans to luxury caravans for the whole family.

20 start-ups provided a breath of fresh air on the area of the “Young Savages” in Hall 6. They brought a number of stylish, delicious and practical innovations to food – including sustainable and regional fashion, curry sausage from the glass or perfume for the car.

Christmas is approaching

More than three quarters of visitors stated in a survey that they bought or ordered something directly at the fair. Many of the respondents even came specifically with the aim of buying Christmas gifts with the fashion home craft. The kreativ.essen and the Christmastown were suitable points of contact for this: Handmade clothing and jewelry, photo art and Advent wreaths could be found here as well as materials and tools with which personal souvenirs can be made yourself. Whether making greeting cards or sewing a Santa Claus boot – numerous workshops animated you to participate and test. The hand spider guild took part in the fair for the first time to show the way from wool to yarn. There were also enthusiastic looks at the setting boxes of the world’s largest thimble exhibition with over 7,500 copies.

Family program was well received

The great interest in the entertainment program showed that the fashion home craft is more than just a shopping fair. The energetic fashion shows in Hall 6 created the atmosphere. Students of Trier University of Applied Sciences and exhibitors from the fashion sector presented their collections. The Christmas children’s play “Motte will MEER” was all about the important topic of the environment. The small trade fair guests were able to follow in the footsteps of animals at the Grugapark stand. And the Essen Sports Federation (ESPO) gave an overview of the city’s versatile sports offers. Action areas with skill course and archery invited you to participate. The first ESPO action inclusion day “EVERYONE can participate” celebrated its premiere on Friday, on which people with and without disabilities could get to know sports together.

Philipp Hawlitschek, who completed his carpentry training at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, emerged as the winner of the state competition of carpenters NRW. His studio furniture convinced the expert jury with a drawer body that rests on a frame made of dark colored oak. The body is only held by two brass rails, giving the impression that it is floating above the frame. The low material thicknesses also underline the filigree appearance of the piece. A total of 44 companies were represented with their pieces in Hall 7 this year.

Next appointment

The next fashion home craft will take place from the 9th to the 12th. November 2023 at Messe Essen. 81 percent of visitors stated that they wanted to visit the fair next year, 80 percent would recommend a visit. Of the exhibiting companies, 82 percent stated that they wanted to be there again next year.
