Ten-year contract ensures the whereabouts of the leading trade fair for consumer electronics and home appliances in the capital.
The IFA will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024 at the exhibition center under the radio tower, where it took place for the first time as a radio exhibition in 1924. After intensive contract negotiations, it has been possible to secure the future of IFA in Berlin for another ten years. The three parties agreed on this today. On the occasion of this understanding, the contracting parties met today in the Red Town Hall. The world’s most important trade fair for consumer electronics and home appliances remains at Messe Berlin GmbH and is now responsible for IFA Management GmbH – a new joint venture founded by gfu Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH together with Clarion Events Ltd.
Franziska Giffey, Governing Mayor of Berlin: “The IFA belongs to Berlin. It has its roots in Berlin and attracts a huge professional audience from all over the world. Due to Corona, it had to pause in 2020 and 2021, but already this year the IFA got its shine back. The signing of the contract now ensures that it can continue to shine in our city in the next ten years. We want to strengthen Berlin as an important trade fair and congress location and as an innovation and technology location. Of course, IFA, as one of the largest trade fairs in the consumer goods industry in the world, must not be missing. Berlin is proud of its IFA and that we can celebrate its anniversary of the century in our city in 2024.
Stephan Schwarz, Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises: “Berlin is the capital of the future and the right location for future fairs. The fact that we managed to hold the IFA in Berlin is another highlight in a very successful year for our trade fair company. The return of premium fashion fairs, the successful re-launch of international magnets such as ILA, InnoTrans and also the IFA decision underline the great potential of the trade fair business in Berlin. We continue to develop this potential and thus strengthen economic strength and employment throughout the metropolitan region.”
Martin Ecknig, CEO of Messe Berlin: “We came to the successful conclusion of the contract today – this is good news for the city of Berlin, for the exhibitors and guests of IFA and for us as Messe Berlin. The world’s most important trade fair for consumer electronics and home appliances has its origin here at our exhibition center and here it will continue to show the latest trends and innovations in the coming years. IFA Berlin is THE industry and communication meeting place for industry, trade and media in one of the most dynamic and creative metropolises in Europe.”
