And here is the jury’s statement: “How self-evident is the new entrance of the CCH, which welcomes guests coming from Congressplatz with a lot of light and air: The dizzyingly high atrium distributes visitors via an expansive staircase and galleries to the more than 50 halls and rooms of the CCH, the largest congress center in Europe at With architectural elegance, the new coat building not only opens the aging and now completely renovated mammoth complex, but also forms a missing link in terms of urban planning: between the Dammtorbahnhof and the two-level Planten un Blomen, Hamburg’s most beautiful city garden. To upgrade and appreciate the architecture of post-war modernism is the order of the day: The new CCH embraces the previously heterogeneous building masses of the existing building and shows that they are much more than gray energy, which must be preserved for ecological reasons alone.”
“As the operator of the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg, we are of course very happy about this award,” says Bernd Aufderheide, Chairman of the Management Board of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH. Hamburg is and remains a sought-after congress venue thanks to this great house. The new CCH helps to further expand our position and to permanently place Hamburg among the top destinations in Europe. With its appealing architecture, its central location, the large hotel offer in the neighborhood and its proximity to numerous colorful neighborhoods, the CCH is hard to beat in terms of attractiveness.”
The modernized and converted CCH – Congress Center Hamburg impresses as a modern, light-flooded and inviting building that has thought of everything. Especially worth seeing is the breathtaking entrance hall, which makes you want more. The new CCH is also characterized by room concepts that ensure maximum flexibility. And this sustainably and barrier-free,” emphasizes Heike Mahmoud, Chief Operating Officer of the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg.
“We are very pleased about the BDA Prize Hamburg. It was a wonderful task for us to revitalize and further develop this place near the city center, in the neighborhood of the Planten un Blomen Park and the Radisson Blu Hotel. A few years ago, there was an almost forgotten place here at the back of Dammtor station. It is nice to see that this place in the heart of Hamburg has now once again become a point of contact for visitors from all over the world and our architecture makes a significant contribution to it,” explains architect Tim Hupe.
