【DE】Audience growth at the BOTTLE MARKET

Around 5,100 people looked around 130 exhibitors

It was fun: 5,083 visitors roamed the eighth BOTTLE MARKET last weekend at MESSE BREMEN. This means that northern Germany’s largest spirits event for end users recorded an increase in visitors compared to the previous year (2021: 4,514).

At the BOTTLE MARKET, visitors were able to talk to their heart’s content with experts and taste noble fires.

“We have been able to partially compensate for the visitor drops caused by Corona and hope to build on pre-pandemic times next year,” comments Anja Rickmeier, project manager at MESSE BREMEN. People were visibly interested in the fair. Spontaneous purchases have become rarer due to the uncertain economic situation, “On the bottom line, however, our exhibitors recorded good sales figures because our audience has always appreciated quality.”

Around 130 distilleries, independent bottlers and importers had set up their carefully designed stands in Hall 6. And the guests were pleased: “I have already been to many trade fairs and the BOTTLE MARKET is always at home for me,” said Dennis Schneider, who had come from Langwedel. How experienced many guests were was also shown by the fact that they were well equipped for extensive tastings at the stands: They had water bottles in the outer pockets of their backpacks or cargo pants to rinse immediately and keep the taste buds fresh for the next sip.

As always, Whisk(e)y played a leading role, from the traditional areas of origin, but also from Asian countries, Scandinavia or Germany. For example, the largest German distillery, St. Kilian, or the Sauerland noble distillery. Their area sales manager Björn Bertram summed up: “German whisky has established itself on the BOTTLE MARKET.” That’s why the support for the products of the distillery was great again.

From the cradle of whisky and the Prime Minister from Wales

With Elliot Wynn-Higgins, the Cask Custodian of the Lindores Abbey Distillery was on site and hosted one of many pre-bookable tastings. The first Scottish whisky was fired in the abbey about 525 years ago. Lindores is distributed in Germany by importer Prineus GmbH, who is one of the exhibitors of the first hour at the BOTTLE MARKET. Managing Director Gerd Schmerschneider, commented: “This was another atmospheric and successful event.” His company will therefore come back in 2023.

Bastian Denkler from Schlumberger GmbH also had something exciting with him. For example, the brand ambassador of the Penderyn Distillery in Wales presented a new release reminiscent of David Lloyd George. He went down in history as the only Welsh Prime Minister so far – and as the founder of the rule that only Whisk(e)y, which has matured for at least three years, may call itself. Denkler also got a very personal souvenir of this eighth BOTTLE MARKET. For the first time, the event team had acquired a Bremen tattoo artist, “because we thought that this offer would fit well with our event,” explains Anja Rickmeier. The Penderyn ambassador also appreciated this and now wears a classic Glencairn nosing glass on his arm.

No long distances to gin and R(h)um providers

Regular guests of the BOTTLE MARKET know: There is more in the world of spirits than Whisk(e)y. Gin also came out big, with around 25 exhibitors of the GINsel alone. Special highlight: The cocktail specialist Burak Çolako⊖lu spoiled connoisseurs with drinks specially created for the event.

Even the R(h)um fans didn’t have to search long to find interesting stalls. Solveig Gerz from Fancy Food & Lifestyle, for example, focuses on something as special as R(h)um from Mauritius and Haiti. The Dutchman Eric Koster, on the other hand, knew how to report that he was the first in the world to hold a patent on peat rum – and is thus also the only one who offers such a thing.

The next fair will be shorter

Innovations about innovations: In the coming year, visitors can also expect an organizational one. The BOTTLE MARKET will be shortened by Sunday, but will be open one hour longer on Friday and Saturday. In addition, it will take place again in the usual hall 7.

The date: 17th and 18th November 2023.
