【DE】The smart laboratory shows its game changer potential in Hanover

From 9th to 11th May of next year, LABVOLUTION 2023 in Hanover will prove its development into a new center for laboratory digitization, artificial intelligence and sustainability.

Hanover. As a recognized trade fair for laboratory equipment and automation, LABVOLUTION reflects the events of recent years in a special way: The corona pandemic ensured a forced break of the face-to-face event in 2021 and at the same time significantly shorter innovation cycles of the industries that traditionally present themselves at LABVOLUTION.

Carola Triebsch, project manager of LABVOLUTION at Deutsche Messe, sums up the consequences of the events of recent months: “There are so many new developments around the smart laboratory – especially in the fields of digitization, artificial intelligence and sustainability that are important across all areas of life – that the first regular LABVOLUTION is expected with great interest from all sides after

For exhibitors from the laboratory world, the importance of LABVOLUTION as well as the proven trade fair infrastructure in Hanover is crucial. Konrad M. Wagner, Managing Director of LDB Labordatenbank GmbH, emphasizes in this context above all the role of LABVOLUTION as a business platform: “In 2023, LABVOLUTION will be the most important trade fair for generating leads and making contacts in the laboratory industry. The good accessibility in Hanover attracts customers who we would otherwise not meet at trade fairs.”

For Christian Völk, Marketing Manager of DÜPERTHAL Sicherheitstechnik GmbH & Co. KG, the focus is above all on the networking aspect: “LABVOLUTION enables us to exchange a focused exchange with users on the latest digital developments in the laboratory.” With the smartLAB, Völk also highlights one of the highlights of the upcoming LABVOLUTION: “Especially within the framework of the smartLAB, new solutions are prominently staged and we can discuss the current trends with visitors in an active and practical manner.”

smartLAB opens up new perspectives for the laboratory world

As a special show of LABVOLUTION on the intelligent and networked laboratory of the future, the smartLAB designs a realistic vision of the future working environments of researchers, development departments and quality controllers, in which artificial intelligence will make a decisive contribution to smart laboratories becoming game changers. For the smartLAB, well-known partners from science and industry will join forces for the fourth time next year to show the experts pioneering and practical examples from the fields of automation, information technology, sensors or big data.

The main partner for smartLAB this year is the company SmartLab Solutions GmbH, under the management of Dr. Felix Lenk, whose focus is on the planning and implementation of complete solutions in laboratory digitization. “The smartLAB of LABVOLUTION 2023 will open up new perspectives on current challenges for the laboratory world,” announces Carola Triebsch. “We are thus creating a visitor magnet that will also give laboratory outfitters access to new target groups. In this way, we fulfill one of the most important tasks of a face-to-face fair: bringing people together so that they can solve the tasks of the future together.”

Especially in the IT sector, there is a great willingness to invest. For example, the current autumn economic barometer 2022 of the Association of Independent Testing Laboratories (VUP) shows that with 45 percent, almost half of the respondents report planned additional investments.

At the same time, the survey reflects a growing concern about a possible energy crisis and the increasingly poorer availability of laboratory materials – topics that raise questions for which easy-to-implement answers must be found by the industry at LABVOLUTION 2023.

Guest performance in Hanover for the Berlin Transparent Laboratory Academy

The prerequisites for this have been created – with the smartLAB, but also with the Gläserne Labor Akademie (GLA) from Berlin. Because the GLA will take up the central topics of digitization, miniaturization and sustainability with a laboratory 4.0 workshop at LABVOLUTION 2023. The offer is primarily aimed at technical employees and laboratory technicians in the life sciences, who can not only participate in workshops and trade fairs free of charge, but also receive GLA certificates for completing the workshop.

GLA has been organizing part-time qualification with seminars, workshops and laboratory internships for scientists and technical employees of the life sciences for more than 20 years. With its attractive location on the Berlin-Buch campus, GLA is located in the immediate vicinity of around 60 innovative biotechnology and medical technology companies and renowned research institutions such as the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association and the Leibniz Research Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP). The GLA, which is optimally integrated into the research world, plays its central role for laboratory work for three days in Hanover.

Without software, nothing works in the laboratory anymore

Like the GLA, the software and LIMS area is one of the highlights of LABVOLUTION 2023. This laboratory information and management systems area organized by LABORPRAXIS – LIMS course – does justice to the development that nothing works in the laboratory without software. Because no matter whether LIM system, electronic laboratory book or data evaluation software – modern laboratories can only work efficiently with special programs.

A comprehensive overview of the current status in the field of laboratory software is provided by vivid expert and manufacturer lectures in the software and LIMS area, which show the potential of laboratory digitization from the user’s point of view.

Only with sustainability can the future be shaped

Not least because the questions of the laboratory world cannot be considered in isolation from the rest of the world, the sustainability day held again at LABVOLUTION is becoming increasingly important. The sustainability day, conceived in cooperation with the Freiburg NIUB Sustainability Consulting – NIUB stands for sustainability, information, implementation, accompanying – will find answers to the question of how the laboratory industry can take responsibility for our society together with the visitors and exhibitors of LABVOLUTION.

The contributions that can be made in the laboratory to enable future generations to live in an ecologically intact and just world thus become a central topic of LABVOLUTION 2023 in Hanover.

The next LABVOLUTION will take place from the 9th to the 11th. May 2023 at the exhibition center in Hanover.
