Dortmund. Many are familiar with the Icelandic ex-football professional not only from his active time as a national player, but also as a TV guest, influencer, brand ambassador and entrepreneur. The trade fair-accompanying supporting program of BOE INTERNATIONAL, which will take place from the 11th to the 12th. January 2023 at Messe Dortmund, Rúrik Gíslason is eagerly awaited at the live stage talk with Aljoscha Höhn.

How it all began

On the grass, he became the ambassador of his Scandinavian home country as one of Iceland’s best footballers. But Rúrik Gíslason is also successful away from the playing field as a model, influencer and entrepreneur as well as a welcome guest on TV and event stages. No wonder, because the all-rounder combines sport, entertainment and entrepreneurial diversity with great ease.

The ex-top athlete started his career in 2005 in the U21 selection. From 2009 to 2018, he had his permanent place in the squad of the Icelandic national team. In 2013, Rúrik Gíslason also became Danish champion with FC Copenhagen. However, the former midfielder only gained his particular popularity during the 2018 World Cup in the match against Argentina. Although the team balance on the court could not convince, he gained the sympathy of the spectators worldwide. Just a week after his World Cup debut, he already broke the one million follower mark on Instagram. Since then, his level of awareness has increased extremely, although he said goodbye to active professional football in 2020.

Curious. Approachable. Versatile.

The ex-professional player is an exceptional talent who set his course early on for the period after his football career. He enjoys high popularity, not only because of his sympathetic appearance, but also because he constantly shows his fan base new talents. He plays different instruments and can sing – with DJ Victor he released his first single “Older” in 2021. Until then, he had only devoted himself privately to music and had never sung live in front of an audience before. By the way, Rúrik Gíslason gives a taste of his musical talent exclusively directly after his live talk on the BOE stage!

His versatility is also evident in numerous TV formats: Whether in his participation in the popular TV show “Let’s Dance” (RTL), in which he took first place with dance partner Renata Lusin and dances himself into the hearts of millions of viewers as a “Dancing Star”. As a guest at “Grill den Henssler” (VOX), he proved his entertainer qualities with a lot of charm and gave TV chef Steffen Henssler hardly any chance to score points. With his voice, Rúrik Gíslason deservedly finished the semi-finals of “The Masked Singer” (ProSieben) in a gorilla costume and also cut a fine figure in “Beat the Star” (ProSieben) against Robin Gosens and in many talk and TV quiz shows. His debut as an actor was also impressive: In the Icelandic movie “Cop Secret” he was in front of the camera as an actor, as well as for the popular movie “Bibi & Tina – Simply Different” by Detlev Buck.

Entrepreneurs with a focus on environment & sustainability

After his professional career, Gíslason started successfully as an entrepreneur and consciously combines lifestyle with sustainable responsibility. So there is a lot of sustainable passion in his two startups – the fashion line Bökk and the gin label Glacier Gin. The charming Icelander has also been documenting his social commitment to a better society for many years as ambassador of the SOS Children’s Villages. He regularly travels to Malawi to provide local support.
