Diverse supporting program at the bicycle and hiking trip trade fair: From product tests to travel reports to adventure cinema
Whether on foot or on two wheels – outdoor entertainment and infotainment at its best promises the extensive supporting program of “bicycle and hiking trips” at CMT 2023 in Stuttgart. Because: Together with the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) Baden-Württemberg and the Swabian Albverein, the active holiday fair presents from the 14th to the 16th. January a colorful mix of lectures, demonstrations and films about biking and hiking. Thus, in addition to the fair itself, the accompanying program on the lecture stage and in the adventure cinema was extended for the first time by Monday to three days – from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Hall 9.

Product test, tour tips and awards on the main stage
On the main stage, presenter Frank Hofmann from the European Cyclists’ Association leads through a full program. These include tips for buying the right e-bike from the ElektroRad publisher Daniel Fikuart, news and trends in outdoor navigation with smartphone and GPS as well as everything worth knowing about hiking backpacks and shoes from expert Ralf Stefan Beppler. Visitors looking for inspiration for their next active holiday can also look forward to exciting lectures – from microadventures on their doorstep to travel reports from all over the world, everything is included. For example, Matthias Effinger from the tour provider fascinates his audience on adventure trips to the unknown Pamir Mountains in Tajikistan as well as to the desert of Jordan. Together with Martin Pundt from Invatarru Tours, we go by e-bike into the wilderness of Western Canada. If you are more attracted to domestic climes for an outdoor experience, you will get your money’s worth at the lecture of MEP Anna Deparnay-Grunenberg on the Bio.Vélo.Route from Stuttgart to Strasbourg.
And two more highlights: As every year, the quality trails and quality regions “Wanderbares Deutschland” will be awarded live on stage by the German Hiking Association as well as the new ADFC quality routes in Baden-Württemberg.
Travel impressions and adventure entertainment in the adventure cinema
Mountain biking in Africa, altitude records in the Chilean Andes, by cargo bike and with dog always along the Danube and 10,000 kilometers on Germany’s most beautiful long-distance hiking trails: Near and wanderlust arises in the live reports in the adventure cinema. In interactive lectures, the protagonists take the audience into the world of adventure. The lecture “Running, eating, sleeping” by bestselling author Christine Thürmer on Sunday, 15. January, at 12 noon: In it, the long-distance runner reports how she hiked 4,277 kilometers on the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada – actually unsportsmanlike and without experience. And that was just the beginning: Later she defeated the US long-distance hiking trails Continental Divide Trail and Appalachian Trail. Christine Thürmer has now conquered more than 58,000 kilometers and is the most immigrant woman in the world.
Other highlights are the performances of Tanja Ney, who circled Iceland by bike and fought with storm and rain for 1,400 kilometers, as well as the travelogue by Gerhard von Kapff, who ventured the adventure of crossing the Alps together with his wife and the two children of primary school age – 557 kilometers from Munich to Venice. Fans of recumbent cycling should also not miss the lectures by Tom Richter, who explored the whole world horizontally over 80,000 kilometers – now even together with his little daughter, as most recently on a tour of Asia.
Pure adrenaline: European Outdoor Film Tour
A special treat for the trade fair guests: The European Outdoor Film Tour (EOFT) stops during the CMT 2023 in Stuttgart. On the atrium stage, entrance east, on Friday, 20. January, at 5.30 p.m. the best outdoor sports and adventure films of the year were shown. Then it’s time again: pure adrenaline on the big screen!

The CMT 2023
CMT, the world’s largest public fair for tourism and leisure, will take place from the 14th to the 22nd. January 2023 at the Stuttgart exhibition center. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; admission from 9 a.m. The holiday fair is complemented by its daughters bicycle and hiking trips, golf and wellness trips as well as cruise and boat trips. The cycling and hiking trips will be extended to three days for the first time and includes Monday (14th to 16th to 16th in addition to the first CMT weekend. January).
