The supporting program presents highlights, insights and a lot of know-how on current industry topics and trends in the event industry.


The upcoming BOE INTERNATIONAL from the 11th to the 12th In addition to its core competencies in live communication and the MICE and business travel segment, January 2023 presents an inspiring supporting program with multi-value content for the industry.


Dortmund – The varied supporting program for BOE INTERNATIONAL brings from 11th to 12th January 2023 six stages will start: “LET’S TALK STAGE”, “DIGITAL STAGE”, “SAFETY & SECURITY STAGE”, “ACTS ON STAGE”, “MICE STAGE” and the “COMMUNICATION STAGE”. Messe Dortmund is already presenting a program overview.




On the first day, everything revolves around sustainability in the event industry, for which BOE INTERNATIONAL is campaigning together with 2bdifferent, its strategic sustainability partner. The focus is on the intelligent circular economy for trade fair and event concepts without waste. Dr. Christoph Soukup approaches this topic together with other experts. In addition, CO2 accounting is on the agenda. Another topic is sustainable destination management with representatives from convention offices and event locations, city marketing and congress organizers. 2bdifferent talks about how the so-called systemic certification is implemented in practice with various players in the event industry in the ISO 20121 Talk. Legal framework conditions such as the Climate Protection Act were the trigger for the two associations fwd: Bundesvereinigung Veranstaltungswirtschaft e.V. and IFES, the worldwide umbrella organization for trade fair and event service providers, to offer a “convoy concept” in cooperation with 2bdifferent for ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management. What is behind the concept will also be an issue.


On the following day of the fair, the BOE partner digital excellence / act & react will play the LET’S TALK stage. The main topics Neo Ecology, Digital Natives and Digital Ethics will be represented from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A foretaste of the 9th digital excellence conference, which took place on the 15th. June 2023 in Frankfurt, the Stage offers two special lecture highlights in advance: Prof. Dr. Anabel Ternès von Hattburg is considered one of the leading minds for sustainability and digitization and gives valuable insights on these topics. Eberhard Schnebel is an economist, philosopher and theologian and has been teaching business ethics, business ethics and digital ethics at Goethe University in Frankfurt since 2013.




The stage program is designed by the Bundesverband Veranstaltungssicherheit e.V. (bvvs) and the Verband für Medien- und Veranstaltungstechnik e.V. (VPLT) and is dedicated to all security aspects in the planning and implementation of events. The lecture “12 1⁄2 years after the Love Parade Duisburg 2010 – What have we learned from it? How do we proceed?” by Prof. Dr. Ing. Jürgen Gerlach, lecturer at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and award-winning security expert. In “Learning is everywhere” the European education project PACE-VAT is presented. This is about a partial certification of lifelong learning – documented in a smartphone app by speaker Randell Greenlee, Head of Economics and International Affairs at VPLT.


The panel “Social Sustainability: Labor and Skilled Workers in Times of Demographic Change”, which is staffed with the EVVC and VPLT, will investigate the question of what sustainable employment relationships in the event industry will look like in the future. Dennis Eichenbrenner, specialist planner for visitor safety, owner of EVS-Safety and chairman of the Federal Association for Event Safety since 2020, comes to the SAFETY & SECURITY STAGE with two interesting approaches: He talks about “Modern leadership at large events – It’s only possible together!” and “Sanity service at events – plan yourself, instead of algorithm?”




On this stage, trade fair visitors have a wide range of industry topics in different formats and extensive space for networking. The COMMUNICATION STAGE is supported by NEXTLIVE and fwd: Bundesvereinigung der Veranstaltungswirtschaft e.V. NEXTLIVE presents top speakers from agencies and companies on Learn from the Best – Outstanding Event Showcases, Sustainability, Digitalization / Top 3 Metaverse Use Cases, Event Design, Storytelling & Content Design as well as the Trends 2023. NEXTLIVE also provides the Business Academy Ruhr & NEXLITVE ACADEMY.


Another highlight is the panel “The Human Touch: Fair Encounter rethought!” initiated by bvik, Bundesverband Industrie Kommunikation e.V., moderated by Steffen Schulze, Head of Communication and Marketing at the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry – AUMA. Round tables on the federal conference, the new fwd: Service company as a quality marketplace for trade fair and event construction as well as the Federal Association are planned by fwd:. In addition, Prof. Dr. Cornelia Zanger present the new HR R.I.F.E.L. study.


MICE STAGE + Culinary Talks & Cooking


At the MICE STAGE, the experts from the MICE industry meet to exchange ideas and take new ideas with them. The core topics around trade fairs, meetings and events of the future will be covered in lectures, best cases and panels at the MICE STAGE.

The program starts on the 11th. January with the keynote of the winner “Newcomer of the Year 2023 by GSA”, which will only be chosen the day before by the German Speaker Association. After that, among other things Five tips, theses and taboos about business events in the focus of Ralf Schmitt, speaker, author, managing director impulse pilot and vice president GSA. A lecture with Cristián Gálvez, author, coach, moderator and speaker, will cover the topic of speaker coaching. Anja Engel, Head of Marketing and Communications MICE Portal GmbH, investigates this question: What matching qualities must a marketplace bring in the event industry in order for participants to receive the best possible benefit? Carsten Fuchs, founder and owner of Fuchs von Morgen GmbH as well as author and developer of the Zukunftsbild method, will present his idea of a new future design. Event director Chris Cuhls will also be involved with a discussion in the circle of colleagues under the motto “Better together – the new way of working” and will give exciting insights into directing work.


Another highlight is Isabel Grupp’s keynote on the 12th. January 2023 from 10:45 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The entrepreneur, influencer and head of state of the Young Entrepreneurs Baden-Württemberg speaks on the topic “New Leadership – Leading with Role Model & Emotion”. Karin Ruppert from the She Means Community then talks to her and Anastasia Barner, founder of the first reverse mentoring startup “FeMentor” in Europe. The topics “Female Empowerment, New Leadership and Diversity” are illuminated. Barner will also refer to “Female Visibility and Personal Branding” on social media.


In addition, Ulf Tassilo Münch from the Culinary Delight Connection transforms the MICE STAGE into a CULINARY STAGE once a day. Exciting guests from the gastro scene are in action on Wednesday from 12:00 to 14:00 and on Thursday from 12:30 to 13:30 in CULINARY TALKS & COOKING. The main topic is VeGanuary (an approach that wants to encourage you to eat vegan for a month). Other topics are “Opportunities in event catering”, “Changed requirements of decision-makers of Generation Z”, “No Food Waste – How can this goal be achieved in event catering?” and food trends: meat substitute vs. innovative v-offers. On stage, among other things, TV and star chef Benedikt Faust, top chef Dominik Wetzel and catering entrepreneur Dr. Melanie Linden.




Exciting topic worlds from social media to AI and VR/AR, ethics on the net, metaverse, gamification, robotics, digital tools and trends for event events to digital marketing are the program here. At the beginning, there will be an inspiring talk with Dr. Georg Kofler, serial entrepreneur with passion and expert in communication, marketing and e-commerce. He explains why entrepreneurship is much more than just an economic activity for him and why founding is a decision for a self-determined life, an act of courageous, creative creation and, above all, a social achievement.


This is followed by the lectures “Meme Marketing” with Sebastian Galla, Managing Director Brandneo and “The Decathlon Tactics – Success can be planned” with Frank Busemann, competitive athlete, decathlete and “athlete of the year”. Thomas Szabo, Managing Director of act & react GmbH and founder d*excellence, sheds light on the “Digital Ethics – Orientation for the Digital Mindset”. Alexandra Löwe, research assistant at IST, explains what belongs to the “change readyness”. Event director Chris Cuhls is also a guest at the DIGITAL STAGE and illuminates “Formats that work online and offline” in the colorful round of colleagues. He also gives insights into the craft from dramaturgy to team play. Marc Gassert, international speaker, trainer and author, inspires with his lecture “Do it now! – Not starting that is rewarded, but perseverance”. PhD CSEP James Morgan, Founder Event Tech Lab and Tourism, Events and Hospitality Professional concludes the day with Event Design and Technology Trends 2023.


On the second day of the DIGITAL STAGE, Prof. Dr. Thomas R. Köhler, author and expert in the field of future technologies, the topics “Digitization / Digital Change / Innovation / Future”. In the lecture “PodSelling® (Podcast + Sales)” Ulf Zinne, Dipl. -Kfm. (FH), author, consultant, trainer, TV presenter and podcast producer, outlines the way to become the number 1 in the ears of interested parties. “Gamification! How to set new impulses to the POI with AR & AI” is the topic of Lena Gabold, Customer Success Manager at SENSAPE.




At ACTS ON STAGE, powered by memo-media, presenter Sebastian Messerschmidt presents four live shows daily with a varied mix of artistry, comedy, magic, music and great beats. Among others, the acrobatics artist Tim Höfel will inspire with his special BMX Flatland show act. Comedian Johnny Armstrong fires his gags with incomparable punchline density. The Berlin artist duo FELICE & CORTES presents a rousing performance of music, juggling and scenic elements. The popular workshops of memo-media will also be back on the program in 2023 and are aimed at artists, agencies and planners.
