【DE】The OFF-GRID Expo + Conference inspires as an international conference fair for self-sufficient, off-grid and renewable energy and water supply in Augsburg.

Positive balance sheet and important impulses: this is how the OFF-GRID Expo + Conference 2022 – the most important industry meeting place of the international off-grid industry – concludes. On the two trade fair and conference days, more than 60 exhibitors from 12 countries presented. Around 900 participants from 27 countries informed themselves about solutions, innovations and services for supply without grid connection.

From 1st to 2nd In December, the OFF-GRID Expo + Conference (OEC) congress fair was held in Augsburg for the fourth time – and once again impressed with a busy conference and many networking opportunities. Traditionally, the event began on the 30th. November with TechDay, which offered users deeper insights into innovative products in service training. As last year, the OEC was carried out as a hybrid event format. Originally used due to the Covid pandemic, this format has proven itself excellently for the OEC and offered participants excellent conditions for exchange and networking both on site and via digital platform.

Highlight of the OEC: the conference – and extensive supporting program

The English-language OFF-GRID Conference is the highlight of every year, at which the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) conceptual partner was also on board at the congress this year. “One of the most important findings of the conference was that the companies and institutes dealing with renewable energies are increasingly networking with each other – and beyond industry boundaries: whether e-mobility, agriculture, telecommunications or other industries,” says Jens Jaeger, the Director of Policy and Business Development of ARE. “In particular, the Nexus water-energy diet, which is intended to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, benefits immensely, as the conference has shown.” Other highlights were above all the two sessions Women as Entrepreneurs who are driving change, as well as financing options with different variants such as Microfinance. Other topics were innovative cooling applications, decentralized renewable energies and e-mobility, energy storage solutions.

Networking is one of the most essential components of the OEC, exhibitors and visitors agree on that. With the OFF-GRID Expo + Conference, we have created a platform on which the most important players in this highly specific industry can exchange ideas. It has been shown how important physical and human exchanges with each other are to the participants. We are pleased that we were able to overcome the pandemic with a successful, digital bridge – but we are particularly pleased that, unlike last year, the majority of participants found their way back to us and made Augsburg the center of self-sufficient care for two days,” Lorenz A. Rau, Managing Director of Messe Augsburg.

Bob Hopman, Sales Manager Germany at Victron Energy: “At OEC, it is noticeable that the market is growing strongly – we have a larger crowd at our stand than before, demand is increasing. Networking with visitors as well as conference participants and other exhibitors is just as important, which is one of the most important components of OEC for us. The expertise of all participants makes it possible to immediately enter into concrete discussions. And of course, another great strength of the OEC is internationality.”

Michael Schmidt, Deputy Head of Office of UNIDO ITPO Germany, also clearly emphasizes the networking possibilities: “You will not find this at any other trade fair. In the end, the exhibitors are also participants at OEC, because everyone interacts with each other, exchanges and shares and introduces projects and innovations with each other. Even those who are new to the industry can get in here very quickly, as well as the delegations we have organized. The OEC enables dialogue between all relevant actors who advance the process; this is very important for project development. This is the unique selling point of the OEC: here are everyone who makes projects, that’s why we are here.”

Extensive supporting program

Parallel to the conference, the exhibition, the interactive supporting program with matchmaking and the Education Mile with several colleges and universities as well as the Off-Grid Challenge, where students showed and were awarded their work in pitches.

Save the date: Date for the next OEC is already set

The date for the next OFF-GRID Expo + Conference has already been set: from 7th to 8th. In December 2023, the OEC will take place again in Augsburg.
