【DE】#ichwillfair: Federal Ministry of Development shows at the International Green Week how a life without hunger can succeed

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will also be at the International Green Week (20th – 29th January) represented. In Hall 10.2, the BMZ shows how the challenges of the global food crisis can be mastered and how a life without hunger can be achieved worldwide: For example, through alternative cultivation methods or fair value chains.

Visitors experience how their consumption and trade can influence the entire value chain of cocoa or coffee. The BMZ sets out what strategic framework conditions it sets and with which measures producers in their countries can receive a fair income and work under livable conditions. The motto #ichwillfair underlines the importance of fair trade and sustainably designed supply chains and what each and every individual can contribute to it.

On the first three days of the International Green Week, the BMZ offers a comprehensive stage program: Development Minister Svenja Schulze opens on Friday, the 20th. January, the BMZ stand and discusses the current food crisis with representatives of the Alliance for Global Food Security. She also talks to a representative of the Rwandan women’s coffee cooperative Angelique’s Finest about gender equality. State Secretary Flasbarth talks about the transformation of agricultural and food systems and alternative cultivation methods. In addition to the content-related program items, guests can expect live music from various bands on the first weekend.

A culinary experience at the BMZ stand is the tasting of insects: As a protein-rich superfood, they can make an important contribution to reducing hunger in the world.

During the school program of the Federal Ministry of Development at the International Green Week, pupils get to know the background to the production of cocoa, coffee and soy and learn what a contribution to better working conditions among local producers looks like. Even outside the school program, interested children and families can discover the program at the stand and go through it in an interactive format.

As a partner of the Ministry of Development, the aid organizations “Bread for the World” and “Misereor” are on site with their own exhibition stands and help shape the joint school program. They give an insight into global development work and provide information on climate protection, superfoods and water, among other things.

In addition, the BMZ promotes the exportability of African small businesses and gives an insight into their work and offer: 12 entrepreneurs from various African countries, including Algeria, Rwanda or Senegal, present their products. These include spices, couscous and sweet potato snacks, but also chocolate, coffee and cosmetics. These companies have prevailed in a competition with their ideas.
