【DE】Energy will be the big issue

Ravensburg – In February 2023 there will be a construction fair in Biberach again. Experts are now making sure that visitors can count on concrete solutions to pressing questions: a newly founded advisory board has determined which topic will be the focus. It should be about energy – more precisely about energy self-sufficiency.

Bauplus Biberach is on February 11th and 12th, 2023, a weekend. It is planned with a novelty. For the first time there will be a so-called plus topic, a main topic. A committee of experts has now determined it: the Bauplus Advisory Board, which the trade fair team at Ravensburger Veranstaltungsgesellschaft (RVG) set up specifically for this purpose. The advisory board includes Walter Göppel, Managing Director of the Ravensburg Energy Agency, and Fabian Bacher, Managing Director of the Biberach District Crafts Association. The experts quickly agreed: this winter it must definitely be about energy – and about helping consumers in view of the exploding costs. The trade fair is intended to answer the question: “What can we do to become as energy self-sufficient as possible?” Owners as well as potential builders are addressed. It should be about new buildings as well as existing buildings.

The registration phase for Bauplus is still running. About 50 of the 80 stands are currently allocated. The trade fair team can already clearly see the trend: almost 20 companies have already registered, which will provide information on how to generate energy yourself or store energy, as part of a renovation or in the course of a new building. Another 15 exhibitors who have already registered are concerned with how to get a house as airtight and well-insulated as possible. Because this is also important: the lower the consumption, the lower the dependency and the costs. And the easier it will be to live as energy self-sufficiently as possible.

Self-sufficiency is a key issue for crafts, says Fabian Bacher from the district craftsmen’s association. “Precisely because the topic of self-sufficiency also includes everything that reduces consumption. The building envelope must fit. Then all other measures will have the best effect.” Various guilds will be present at the fair. This gives Bauplus visitors the chance to get advice from a number of different sides and to plan a good interaction between the trades.

“How do we get out of the price trap for electricity, gas and oil?” Walter Göppel from the energy agency responsible for Biberach hears this question very often. “A lot of people are getting mail from their suppliers at the moment. Prices go up, sometimes fourfold. It goes without saying that people are looking for alternatives!” This applies to existing buildings as well as to places where new living space is being created: “If I build a new one now, I naturally make sure from the start that I need as little energy as possible afterwards and stuff like that independent as possible.”

He also emphasizes that if you want low energy costs, you have to turn two screws. On the one hand, generate your own energy and store it if possible – on the other hand, reduce consumption as much as possible. What is very important to him: acting with foresight. “We already know today that the winter of 2023/24 will be harder than the current winter. At the same time, you have to expect considerable waiting times, often several months, because the demand for photovoltaics and craftsmen is currently very high. In other words, if you want to improve something energetically for winter 23/24, you should start doing so as soon as possible. Bauplus is a good opportunity for this.”
