【DE】BIOFACH Congress Program 2023 focuses on consumer and trade needs – VIVANESS Congress depicts the variety of topics in the industry

The program of the BIOFACH Congress with the theme “Organic. Nutritional sovereignty. True prices” already suggests: In 2023, the industry will not have easy tasks. Two cross-fora priorities in the BIOFACH congress program, on the other hand, give the feeling that concrete solutions are within reach: The discussion about labelling encourages to create more orientation and clarity for consumers; trade is called upon to consider the current uncertainties as an opportunity to position themselves clearly. The VIVANESS congress program is as diverse as the topics that move the industry. It’s about sustainability, partnerships, trends and market developments.

It was not until the end of November 2022 that the postponement of the publication of the draft Green Claims Directive by the EU Commission was announced. For many, this meant a sigh of relief. The criticism of the directive: “The PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) is not suitable for adequately assessing the environmental performance of agricultural and food products,” said, for example, the Bundesverband Naturkost Naturwaren BNN[1]. So which systems evaluate food in terms of meaningfulness and sustainability? Which ones are so transparent that consumers feel taken seriously and trust the food industry? These questions are discussed across forums and solutions for more orientation for consumers are presented. Both the topic of labeling and the area of certifications, such as “B Corp” or “We care”, come into play here.

How does trading position itself for the future?

While consumers are increasingly concerned with how to make their consumption more sustainable, trade is investigating the question of where purchases will take place in the future and which concepts are convincing. At the Forum Fachhandel in Hall 9, impulse generators will discuss which messages reach new customers; what future requirements for a modern workplace will look like; how the trend towards regional food shapes the range; how organic retailers are successfully developing towards more sustainability as an ambassador for qualitative development?

Self-employed retailers are also concerned about similar questions. Three events in the congress program are explicitly aimed at them.

Variety of topics at the VIVANESS Congress

The congress program offers a wealth of events. Both the current market development in facts and figures, market insights and consumer insights, as well as emotional topics such as cooperations and partnerships, can be found here. The program reflects what moves the industry: from new packaging concepts, circular economy, the increasing importance of sustainability for industry and trade to “cleanwashing.”

On a total of four congress days (Tuesday to Friday), the industry deals with topics of the future. In addition to the Forum Fachhandel, the forums Sustainability, Politics, Science and BIOFACH offer exciting approaches to discussion. The Agriculture Forum remains an integral part of the congress program after its introduction in 2022. Selected lectures are recorded and can then be accessed as video on the digital event platform (videos on demand).

In addition, individual congress contributions will be streamed live on talque. All trade fair participants automatically have access to the digital platform.www.biofach.de/programm and www.vivaness.de/programm
