After the DOMOTEX had to be cancelled two years in a row due to the pandemic, it proved once again in 2023 that it continues to be the most important trading, innovation and trend platform in the industry. During the four-day world’s leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings, trade visitors, including around 69% from abroad, were able to discover new innovations and trends and make new business contacts at more than 730 exhibitors in eight halls.
Hanover. After four eventful days at the fair, DOMOTEX 2023 closed its doors on Sunday. Sustainability, internationality and visitor quality shaped this year’s event. Exhibitors, visitors and organizers agree: The DOMOTEX 2023 was a complete success.
“We are overwhelmed by the positive response and the energetic spirit of this year’s DOMOTEX. The atmosphere in the halls is so great – exhibitors and visitors alike are pleased to finally meet again at their industry fair to meet in person, exchange ideas, make new contacts and close deals, says Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director DOMOTEX. “What also pleases me is that the quality of visitors at the fair is excellent. Because the share of decision-makers is 80%. If you come to DOMOTEX, you come with very concrete intentions.”
As a “mandatory appointment”, Michael Roithner, central buyer for floor coverings and carpets of POCO Einrichtungsmärkte GmbH, uses DOMOTEX to meet existing and potential suppliers in the shortest possible time – this time especially those he has not been able to visit in the last two years. As a visitor survey audited by FKM determined, around half of the decision-makers award orders to exhibiting companies during their stay at DOMOTEX. Already during the current trade fair, two thirds of trade visitors stated that they would visit the next DOMOTEX in Hanover again in January 2024.
Exhibitor delights with high participation & visitor quality
On the part of the exhibitors, the first DOMOTEX in three years also significantly exceeded expectations. “We are positively surprised how many visitors we were able to welcome to our booth after the pandemic. We did not expect such a lively participation this year due to the difficult world situation. For DOMOTEX 2024, we want an even stronger event with a united flooring industry,” reveals Niklas Håkansson, Managing Director of Välinge.
Jelena Đugum, Director of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, is sure that “the results of this year’s DOMOTEX will give the Croatian timber industry tailwind.” Positive feedback also from Lydia Bober, Head of Marketing & PR at SELIT Dämmtechnik GmbH: “It was the right decision for us to be here. The contacts we make at DOMOTEX are very valuable to us.”
There is also a spirit of optimism in the RUGS exhibition area. “Our customers were isolated for a long, long time. It is very important that we and our colleagues are here, shake hands and present our products,” says Reza Rejaye, Managing Director of Reza’s Oriental & Modern Rugs. Oriental Weavers has also been waiting a long time for DOMOTEX to take place again, reports Yasmine Khamis, chairman of the Oriental Group: “We are super excited to be here. On the first day of the fair, we already had a great day.” For them, DOMOTEX is “a place where everyone comes together: customers, suppliers, competitors, everyone.”

Sustainability runs like a common thread through the exhibition halls
At DOMOTEX 2023, the special show THE GREEN COLLECTION and the conference program DOMOTEX on Stage under the guiding theme FLOORED BY NATURE formed the heart of the event – here the megatrend of sustainability was staged and discussed. The special area was particularly popular with architects, interior designers and buyers, as Joachim Stumpp, Managing Director of raumprobe, confirms. In particular, “the variety of materials shown and the associated possibilities for sustainable design” are particularly noticeable among visitors to the material show. Ina Nikolova from the Berlin architectural firm KINZO was also enthusiastic about the special show: “DoMOTEX 2023 presents so many important topics on one area and gives significant impetus – also in the conference program – that I can integrate into my own work.”
The sustainable focus was also reflected in the product range of the exhibitors. The guiding theme fits very well with the focal points of the Münsterland company ter Hürne, emphasized Managing Director Bernhard ter Hürne. “We welcome the value-based orientation of DOMOTEX, which highlights healthy floor solutions.”
DOMOTEX 2024 – greener, stronger, united
“With this year’s leading theme and the new special show, we have absolutely hit the nerve of the times. My team and I are looking forward to further expanding THE GREEN COLLECTION at the upcoming DOMOTEX 2024,” announces Sonia Wedell-Castellano. “We will continue to expand our cooperation with industry experts such as the TFI, offer wholesalers a presentation space, focus more on object developers and architects, etc. In short: with our concept, we will ensure that the DOMOTEX 2024 remains the hub for carpets and flooring, which simply no way around it.”
Many exhibitors have already confirmed their participation for 2024 – including ter Hürne, Windmöller, Neuhofer, Merinos, Oriental Weavers.
