【DE】HOGA Nuremberg gives a positive start to the year for hosts

The HOGA Nuremberg gastronomy trade fair kicked off the new year. This offers new opportunities for the hotel industry and gastronomy and is associated with a lot of hope for the crisis-ridden industry. Over three days, around 18,000 visitors came to Messe Nürnberg to explore the offers of the approximately 470 HOGA exhibitors and to meet industry colleagues, partners and friends again. This concludes HOGA 2023 with good results for exhibitors and organizers.


Nuremberg – The technical sponsor of HOGA is DEHOGA Bayern. Angela Inselkammer, President of the Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association DEHOGA Bayern, encouraged restaurateurs and hoteliers as part of the HOGA to look optimistically and full of energy into the future: “The world has rarely been as great in upheaval and uncertainty as in these times. We are witnessing an unprecedented meeting of serious crises that demand everything from us. But who, if not us, can also master this crisis. HOGA is much more than our industry fair at this time, it is also a signal of departure. We would like to work together on the next steps in order to consistently expand HOGA.”


Current challenges and trending topics


The 470 exhibitors of HOGA 2023 covered the areas of food & beverage, furnishing, equipment and kitchen technology as well as service and organization with their offers. In particular, those offers that provide answers to the current challenges of the industry – such as staff shortages, energy crisis and the new reusable law – were sought by visitors. Digital solutions as well as the offers of the FOODSpecial trade fair of the Service Federation can make work in the kitchen and service easier and therefore experienced great demand, especially in times of personnel shortages. BÄKO Franken Oberbayern-Nord used the HOGA again to meet customers here and have intensive discussions at the beginning of the year.


Outlook for HOGA 2025


Many restaurateurs are strengthening the focus on a sustainable orientation of the company as well as on the use of regional suppliers and food. They found the right offers for this at HOGA Nuremberg. For the upcoming HOGA, the Food & Beverage offer area is to be expanded in order to offer visitors even more variety of offers here. For example, the offers for Italian gastronomy are being further expanded. In addition, there will be a large community participation under the title “Asia World”, which is aimed at restaurateurs with Asian cuisine. The focus is on China, Japan and Thailand, but the offers are also aimed at restaurateurs with traditional cuisine who want to add new worlds of taste to their menu.



In the Liquid Area, various drinks were again presented at HOGA, the center was the Frankenwein Vinothek. In addition to the next HOGA, the range of non-alcoholic beverages is to be further expanded.



The stage programs in the Entrepreneurs’ Congress “Future Gastronomy” as well as on the “Culinary Food Stage” convinced with professional information, current discussions, tastings and cooking shows and thus rounded off the offer and flair of the fair.



Henning and Thilo Könicke, managing directors of the HOGA organizer AFAG Messen und Ausstellungen, are pleased about the good start to the year with HOGA Nuremberg: “The committed cohesion between hosts and the industry has helped the HOGA to achieve a good result. Optimism has triumphed and the passion within the industry was noticeable at HOGA. The number of exhibitors and visitors of HOGA is back on a growth, but above all in terms of mood, HOGA 2023 was able to build on the successes from the times before the corona pandemic – despite the current challenges of the industry. We are already looking forward to looking to 2025, when HOGA is once again the meeting place for Bavaria’s hosts.”


Gastro Innovation Award – News and Trends


The “Gastro Innovation Award” by HOGA Nuremberg took place for the third time in 2023. The concept of “Wings Coin” has won, which ensures more sustainability in the hotel industry. In addition to the finalists of the Gastro Innovation Award, numerous other start-ups and small companies presented themselves at HOGA with individual and creative solutions, concepts and food and thus brought even more diversity to the trade fair offer. The Gastro Innovation Award will also take place again at HOGA 2025, the application phase starts in 2024.


More gastro fairs this year:


In five weeks, the GASTRO SUMMIT will already take place in Friedrichshafen (26th to 28th February) and brings offers for restaurateurs and hoteliers to the three-country corner. The next HOGA will take place on the ancestral date in January 2025 at Messe Nürnberg.

“We are fully satisfied with the HOGA 2023, the restart has been successful. On the three days of the fair, we were able to have exciting and intensive customer discussions that would not have been possible in everyday business. Already on the first day we were able to record a great response at our stand and this did not subside until the last day of the fair. Personal conversations are and remain important.”

“The re-start after two years of Corona has succeeded. The fair was very well received by the customers. On the first two days, we already had 9,000 customer registrations for the FOODSpecial and thus a new record. The visitors came mainly with questions about products for staff relief as well as nutritional topics, such as “vegan” and “free of”. The topic of reusable and packaging also played a major role. Many simply came to network. The service fund initiators were very satisfied with the customer visit and the expert discussions from gastronomy, the hotel industry and communal catering. The mood in the industry is positive.”

“It was a great fair. Especially on the first two days. And even if the third day was quieter, we were able to have good technical discussions here. We were able to use HOGA for professional exchange with customers, potential customers, industrial partners and other exhibitors and that was very profitable. After the long time without a trade fair, visitors felt like HOGA again.”
