【DE】THE SPECIALIST PROGRAM AT THE LEIPZIG BOOK FAIR 2023

Even though popular events such as the Leipzig Book Fair had to pause and the bookstores suffered greatly from the restrictions and the lack of customers, Corona has not only harmed the industry. Because the grip on the book became more popular again and the sales figures rose significantly. At the same time, the book is still indisputably in constant competition with other media. Part of the success strategy of bookstores, publishers, authors and translators must therefore continue to be to show, promote and discuss the variety of written words in all their colors. This goal is also pursued by the specialist program of the Leipzig Book Fair from the 27th to the 30th. April with over one hundred events.

【DE】#HM23 – most important platform for hydrogen and fuel cells

At the HANNOVER MESSE from the 17th to the 21st April 2023, around 500 companies will present their solutions for the generation, transport, storage and consumption of hydrogen. The opportunities for everyone are great: By 2030, the EU Commission wants to install electrolysers with an output of at least 40 gigawatts and produce 10 million tons of green hydrogen in a step-by-step approach.

Hanover. The hydrogen economy is international and thus new innovative companies are emerging worldwide. The technology also triggered a boom in the southern Harz. The exhibitor Maximator Hydrogen, a manufacturer of hydrogen filling stations, has been growing for years and is targeting sales of 50 million euros in the fifth financial year. It is being built and production areas are constantly being expanded. The order backlog is now over 100 million euros.

Numerous European medium-sized companies benefit from the hydrogen economy and are constantly developing new solutions for the generation, infrastructure, transport, storage and refueling with hydrogen. Around 300 exhibitors will show their solutions at Hydrogen + Fuel Cells EUROPE alone as part of HANNOVER MESSE, including well-known companies such as Bosch, Iberdrola, Schaeffler, Siemens, Linde and Emerson. The hydrogen economy thinks internationally and presents itself primarily in Hall 13. On an area of around 8,000 m2, decision-makers from all over the world discuss new technologies and applications for hydrogen and fuel cells across industries. In addition to Germany, most exhibitors come from Europe as well as from China, Japan, South Korea, the USA and Canada.

Norway is also strongly represented, as the country is an important partner for German and European ambitions. Equinor and the German RWE recently signed an agreement on the conversion of gas-fired power plants to hydrogen, the production of hydrogen in Norway, pipeline exports to Germany and the joint development of offshore wind farms. Statkraft and the German HH2E presented their agreements with the Norwegian Nel on the purchase of electrolysers for hydrogen factories in several European countries. The company Nel is one of 14 Norwegian companies at the fair. Among other things, the engineers show the latest generation of their electrolyzers. Already today, Europe produces and consumes about 80 million tons of hydrogen annually. The trend is rising. The challenge is above all to make the already used hydrogen and the additional consumption green in the future. By 2030, the EU Commission wants to replace gray hydrogen with green ones. Why? Grey hydrogen is based on fossil energy sources. The ambitions are high. It still takes many electrolysers to reach the goal, and there are only seven years left.

According to Fraunhofer, the most efficient technology for the production of hydrogen comes from Belgium: ZIRFON separators for alkaline electrolysis (AEL) are used worldwide by manufacturers of electrolyzers and owners of hydrogen production projects because of their longevity and persistently high productivity, the developers explain.

But it is not only Europe that relies on hydrogen. Many companies also invest in China. According to its own statements, Refire, for example, already operates over 4,000 fuel cell trucks. On the first day of the fair, Audrey Ma, Vice President at Refire, discusses “Heavy Duty Trucks – is Hydrogen the future?” with representatives of European industry, including Jens Fleckenstein from Daimler Truck or Yves Dumoulin from FORVIA Group.

Hydrogen + Fuel Cells EUROPE organizes two forums parallel to the exhibition: the Public Forum and the Technical Forum.

Return of the desire to travel

The managing directors of the trade fair organizer AFAG, Henning and Thilo Könicke, look forward to this year’s leisure trade fair: “The restart of the trade fair industry is a process that has not yet been completed for us. At the trade fairs, the return to old strength has already succeeded many times and the Freizeit Messe as a public fair is now also developing in this direction. There are again more exhibitors in all areas who herald the start of the travel, leisure, outdoor and garden season with their offer.”

Especially in the tourism sector, more destinations and inspirations are offered and the offer is gradually developing again towards the pre-crisis level. In the caravan and motorhome salon, it has already been possible to present a very wide range: The exhibitors bring models from over 60 brands and thus offer visitors a comprehensive overview.

In the outdoor and sports area of the leisure fair, there are numerous opportunities to try out trend sports and find new hobbies. Highlights are the large action pool and the climbing snake, which leads up to 10 meters in height. Remarkable is the commitment of the regional sports clubs, which come to the fair on a voluntary basis at the weekend to introduce visitors to their sports and the club.

In the garden and house area, there is comprehensive advice for the redesign and redesign of the garden as well as the right tools and materials to get in the mood for the garden season.

Workshops for students and Kid’s Club at the weekend

From Wednesday to Friday, school classes are invited to move the lessons to the exhibition center. At the weekend, children between the ages of six and 13 can experience games, fun and exercise at the Heimatrausch Kid’s Club.

New combination: Leisure fair and music fair

The new music fair celebrates its premiere parallel to the leisure fair. For Maik Heißer, project manager of both trade fairs, a good combination has been found: “With 130 exhibition areas, 50 concerts and 30 workshops, the music fair makes a very good start. The Nuremberg Music Fair is not only aimed at professional musicians, but also at hobby musicians and thus appeals to a wide audience. That’s why it is in very good hands parallel to the leisure fair and visitors can look forward to inspiration and information for a beautiful, active, sporty and now also musical leisure time.”

【DE】IBO: Successful restart of the trade fair quartet

Friedrichshafen – Finally IBO again: In spring-like weather, the IBO and its sister fairs “Neues BauEn”, “Urlaub Freizeit Reisen” and “Garten & Ambiente Bodensee” made the appetite for shared experiences and versatile shopping pleasure. The audience shopped and feasted through the halls during the five days of the fair, was advised on holidays, gardening, building and living and entertained by a versatile program. “The IBO has started again after a long forced break and thus not only brings the Häfler traditional fair back to its traditional date, but also creates a promising basis for the anniversary edition next year,” summarize trade fair managing director Klaus Wellmann and project manager Julia Graf.

Full shopping bags, moving show performances and good mood with live music and street food: “Despite the smaller indoor set-up shows the positive response of the visitors that we have hit the mark with a wide audience with our range of topics and new show highlights such as the ‘Moving Shadows’ and the IBO BBQ Family,” Julia Graf is pleased about the 49 860 I “After three years without regular IBO, this year was an important step to get back to operating temperature together with our customers and successfully set up the spring fair with the variety of topics for which it is known for the future,” adds the project manager with anticipation for the 75 years of IBO next year.

The fact that the IBO was finally able to start again is not only pleased with the trade fair makers: “I am very satisfied with the trade fair, we really had a lot of conversations and can record great sales. Our expectations were definitely exceeded. The IBO is still an important trade fair, the visitors are very positive and are happy that something is possible again,” says Manfred Starke, owner of Aqua Fit Schwimmbadbau.

Leo Wildmoser, Managing Director of Wildmoser KG/Autohaus Dreher, also shares this opinion: “Presenting us here is important to show what we have on offer, who we are and to maintain contact with our customers – both with new customers and with existing customers. We were able to make many new contacts and send offers already during the trade fair days.” And not only that: “A married couple who originally did not intend to come to the IBO even bought a camper van at the fair after the consultation at our stand,” reports Wildmoser about the sale of the vehicle on site.

The subject-specific interest of the audience is also particularly positive: “The interest in and popularity for natural building materials has increased enormously. Many visitors inform themselves in advance in order to come specifically to my stand, often with specific technical questions. We have been represented at the IBO for over ten years and are also satisfied with the great interest of the visitors this year – we will definitely come back next year. The contacts I make at the fair, as well as the business that I conclude as a result, often develop into a long-term cooperation. That’s why the trade fair is also important for customer care,” reports Holger Längle, Erfolgsgeheimnis Lehmbau GmbH.

Exhibitors such as Dirk Piorun, Managing Director of the Parkhotel Waldlust, are also happy about a lively post-trade fair business and sales: “I was the last time at the fair in 2017 because it was very difficult for us. This year, however, we managed to accommodate the IBO and I have to say: Sales already exceeded expectations on Friday. It used to be a great audience at the fair, but it got even better. The visitors now also come from the Allgäu and Austria, which is optimal for us. I’ll be back next year.”

The interactive information and educational offer of the German Bundestag in the Foyer West also attracted political celebrities such as Volker Mayer-Lay (member of the German Bundestag) and Klaus Hoher (member of the state parliament) to the IBO. The younger politically interested audience got their money’s worth at the second edition of the Young Speaker Contest. Ten pupils took part in the competition on Messe-Freitag and gave short lectures on topics that move them. “I was thrilled by the topics that the young people have dealt with. I was also impressed by their eloquence and the use of stylistic devices. There was no fear of simply taking a microphone in hand to speak freely on stage,” reports juror Reinhold Lange, chairman of the umbrella association of the youth municipal councils of Baden-Württemberg. The first place was made by 17-year-old Kilian Vogler with an emotional speech about his experiences with bullying.

The IBO and its sister fairs promise versatile shopping pleasure, conviviality and colorful entertainment next year from the 20th to the 24th. March 2024. A special occasion, because next year the Messe Friedrichshafen and the IBO will celebrate 75 years.

【DE】Invest becomes a crowd puller

Audience deals intensively with the topic of wealth building / 12,577 visitors make the event a complete success

The need for serious information in the area of investment and finance is higher than ever. Young people are also taking the topic of finance into their own hands and want to find out about the possibilities of building wealth. This is underlined by the popularity of the audience at Germany’s largest industry meeting – the Invest 2023 at the Stuttgart exhibition center. A total of 12,577 private and institutional investors visited the event on the two days of the fair. On the 17th and 18th In March, 124 exhibiters presented interesting facts about all asset classes on a gross area of 10,900 square meters – from stocks and ETFs to crypto to commodities and precious metals. A total of 270 lectures took place on the five stages, which were constantly very popular. The current difficult framework conditions in the financial markets, due to the Ukraine war, inflation, rising interest rates, were particularly present topics.

For the majority of the audience, building up their own wealth is the most important reason for visiting Invest, followed by the topic of retirement provision. In general, the visitor structure shows a trend towards a more feminine audience – so the topic of finance is also present in this target group. The proportion of women in Invest rises to 20 percent.

“The rush to Invest has shown that people want to exchange ideas more than ever on the topics of investment and finance. For two days, the industry met in Stuttgart, discussed the current challenges and gave exciting tips to the interested audience in a very extensive program, says Stefan Lohnert, Managing Director of Messe Stuttgart.

Run on investment tips

The decisions for investors are currently being made more difficult by the multiple challenges in the financial markets and cause uncertainty. “Interest turnaround, upheavals in the global economy, fluctuations in the capital markets: These are exciting times for private investors. In this demanding market environment, Invest was once again able to offer valuable orientation. The high demand for information was also evident at the stand of the Stuttgart Stock Exchange Group. Our innovative services and offers in both the capital market and digital business met with great interest among visitors,” says Dr. Matthias Voelkel, CEO of the Börse Stuttgart Group.

Five stages and 270 program items

On five stages in the exhibition hall, in the ICS Internationales Congresscenter Stuttgart as well as at the stands of the exhibiting companies, 270 lectures with a large wealth of well-founded information were offered on the two days of the fair. The first highlight was the opening of Invest: Dr. Danyal Bayaz, Minister of Finance of the State of Baden-Württemberg, opened the fair and answered questions from students on the topics of investment and finance. The panel discussion with moderator Cornelia Frey from the Stuttgart Stock Exchange group and financial blogger Lisa Osada (“Aktiengram”), trading director Dragan Radanovic and Bison boss Dr. Ulli Spankowski from the Stuttgart Stock Exchange group, already set the thematic agenda of Invest on Friday morning.

In the Blogger Lounge, which was organized together with the Börse Stuttgart Group, the young target group exchanged views with Germany’s most popular financial bloggers – this year, the area in the hall was again an absolute crowd puller. The younger visitors were able to get rid of burning questions here and discuss them on an equal footing with the bloggers. The Female Finance Day offered first-hand expert knowledge for the approximately 350 interested parties at talk rounds and boot camps. The program, specially tailored for female investors, also offered answers to questions about the right investment strategy.

Fair Green Money draws a positive summary

Sustainable investments no longer have exotic status, but are becoming increasingly important for investors. At Invest, the topic has a special place: in addition to the offers in the hall, the accompanying Green Money fair with 19 exhibiting companies informed visitors about the topic of ethical and sustainable investment.

“The demand for sustainable investments is growing rapidly. More and more investors not only want to achieve a good return, but at the same time consciously support ecological and/or social projects. The exhibitors once again clearly felt the growing trend at the Grünes Geld trade fair. Presenting conventional and sustainable investments compactly at an event is only available at Invest and that makes the fair so successful, for exhibitors and visitors alike, says Tobias Karsten, Managing Director of ECOeventmanagement and organizer of the Grünes Geld trade fair.

exhibitings report on great atmosphere at Invest

Eric Stoklassa, Marketing, Münze Österreich AG:
“We are very satisfied with the investment. We had a lot of audience at the stand, who brought qualified questions and with whom we had good conversations. For companies in the field of investment, investment, provision and asset protection, Invest is always a good address. The audience comes here to inform themselves as widely as possible. A real eye-catcher and crowd puller was our 31 kilogram gold coin.”

Christian Köker, Director, Derivatives Public Distribution, HSBC Germany:
“For us, Invest was a great event because we had a very mixed audience. We have seen old acquaintances again, but also many young guests with a lot of interest in financial investment topics. The lecture events are also very well attended. For me, Invest is a professionally organized trade fair in a very good location. You must also not underestimate the dialogue with industry colleagues: at such a trade fair you can gather experience and information that you do not get without a trade fair.

Sabine Seitz, consultant in the field of sales and marketing, Sparkassenverband Baden-Württemberg: “We have not been there as an exhibitor at Invest for several years now and are thrilled to be back. Invest is the only real trade fair in Germany on the subject of finance and investment. Visitors are hungry for topics such as Silicon Valley Bank or Credit Suisse. As a financial service provider, we have received many questions about the credit business, but also about deposit insurance or insurance.”

Patrick Kesselhut, derivatives expert, Société Générale: “We are very satisfied with Invest and the numerous interested investors we meet here. The contact with the visitors, the exciting lectures and the reunion with the industry colleagues is simply fun. Invest is the leading trade fair in Germany and we are curious to see how it will develop.”

Jennifer Borger, Marketing Coordinator, IG Europe GmbH: “We had many good customer conversations at Invest and got to know interesting personalities. Networking is also an important factor, it is always nice to meet well-known colleagues from the industry again. I can only recommend Invest: The fair has its own dynamics, there are many different exhibitors with different specializations. Thumbs up!”

Ute Leidhold, Marketing & Sales, Börsenmedien AG: “The crowd of visitors at our booth was madness. There are many young people who are interested in their future. We were already thrilled last year and that’s really striking. The stages with the lectures are great in terms of organization and content. I would like even more exhibitors, the Invest is definitely good for the presentation of the company.”

Sebastian Kruse, Equity Derivatives, Morgan Stanley: “We are very happy to be here at Invest again. We had nice, exciting conversations, there was a great atmosphere. The visitors are very interested, there is a lot of talk about products and technical questions are asked. The lectures are well attended and you can see the interest in being physically on site. Invest is the largest financial fair in Germany, you can’t miss it. We have been here for years and we will be there again in the coming years.”

Kemal Bagci, Public Distribution, BNP Paribas S.A.: “There is a lot of movement in the markets right now and this attracts many visitors to Invest. Here we meet an interested audience and exactly our target groups.”

Nadine from Widekind, event manager, Deutsche Bundesbank: “We are very satisfied, our stand has been well attended throughout. The audience is very open-minded, we wanted to increase the visibility of the Bundesbank with our stand. We have achieved the goal here.

Marco Witteck, Key Account Manager, Smartbroker AG: “We are very satisfied. The visitors consciously absorb information, are well informed and have the right to buy. We were able to have many very pleasant conversations and have already recommended the Invest to other exhibitors.”

Jochen Staiger, CEO, Swiss Resource Capital AG: “We are absolutely satisfied and happy about the many visitors. In particular, we have noticed the many young people who have shown great interest. With our 10th German Raw Materials Night, we were able to reach a record number of participants.”

The next investment will take place on the 26th and 27th. April 2024.

【DE】14. LIFE AND DEATH takes up current debate

The question of how euthanasia can be re-regulated is currently being discussed in Germany, because the Federal Constitutional Court had declared the ban on commercial euthanasia unconstitutional in 2020. However, the current state of sleep does not change the fact that seriously ill people have the desire for assisted suicide and a self-determined end. The 14th LIFE AND DEATH on Friday and Saturday, 5th and 6th May 2023, in the MESSE BREMEN is dedicated to the topics of crisis, trauma and suicide in death and bereavement support in a cross-professional manner – under the guiding principle “…and there is still a light!”

Specialist lectures shed light on medical and psychosocial aspects

“We are aware that suicide and assisted suicide are very sensitive topics,” says project manager Meike Wengler. “Nevertheless, they are part of our society and where else, if not on LIFE AND DEATH, we should have the courage to talk about it openly.” They not only want to take up the current Bundestag debate, but also to approach the topic in a technically sound manner and give assistance and impulses to both full-time and volunteers. The ethical questions with legal help to die – deep sedation and renunciation of food – for example, speaker Prof. Dr. Christoph Rehmann-Sutter, Deputy Director at the Institute for Medical History and Science Research at the University of Lübeck, as part of his lecture of the same name.

The lecture by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Lindner, specialist in neurology and psychiatry as well as specialist in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy. Taking into account the current case law and legislation as well as the public discussion about assisted suicide, he presents scientific findings on the medical and psychosocial situation of life-hist and suicidal people and analyzes the situation of accompanying persons in this situation.

“And in the afternoon I’m dead?!” – Panel discussion with Dr. Annette Kurschus

The topic complex concludes at LIFE AND DEATH with a top-class panel discussion. Heiner Melching, Managing Director of the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP) in Berlin, talks to Dr. Annette Kurschus (Chairwoman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany), Dr. Elisabeth Jentschke, (Board Member of the DGP), Prof. Dr. Dieter Birnbacher (Board of the German Society for Humane Dying), Sven Goldbach (owner of an SAPV nursing service) and Dr. Katja Fischer (head of the palliative care unit Klinikum Links der Weser).

Together, the experts take a look at the current Bundestag debate and shed light on the ethical, medical and psychological perspectives and challenges as well as the possible consequences of a new regulation of the law on assisted suicide.

Congress ticket already available from 29 euros

For the 14th Part-time and volunteers from nursing, palliative care, hospice, grief support, pastoral care and funeral culture meet on Friday and Saturday, 5th and 6th. May 2023, at MESSE BREMEN. They inform and discuss for the first time about crisis, trauma and suicide in death and bereavement support. In the accompanying exhibition, around 140 exhibitors present themselves, who, in addition to contact persons and assistance for those affected, also offer products such as aromatic oils or singing bowls. The event, which is unique in Germany, is rounded off by a supporting program with readings and live music. Participation in the specialist congress costs from 29 euros. High decision-making competence and internationality of visitors +++ Trend: Stringent digital workflow and improved sustainability

A successful anniversary event was the International Dental Show IDS, which took Place on Saturday, 18. March 2023, after five intensive days of the fair came to an end. The leading international trade fair of the global dental industry celebrated its 100th anniversary this year. Birthday and also took place for the fortieth time – and this with an impressive participation among exhibitors and visitors: Around 120,000 trade visitors from 162 countries informed themselves in Cologne about the comprehensive range of dental medicine and dental technology products, presented by 1,788 exhibiting companies from 60 countries. “The IDS 2023 has convinced all along the line and at the same time proved that it is constantly reinventing and developing itself even after 100 years. The dynamics, the innovative and impulse power emanating from the IDS are impressive. And the IDS has once again confirmed that it is a world’s leading trade fair. The visitor quality was – and I say this not only as chairman of the board of the VDDI, but also as an exhibitor of the IDS – sensational. Together with Koelnmesse, we will successfully lead the IDS into the second century of event history with energy, ambition, creativity and visions. This year’s claim “100 years IDS – shaping the dental future” stands as a synonym for the outstanding importance of the fair today and in the future,” says Mark Stephen Pace, Chairman of the German Dental Industry Association. (VDDI). And Oliver Frese, Managing Director of Koelnmesse, adds: “For five days, we have experienced an IDS that more than lives up to its claim as an internationally leading hub. This gives the global dental industry the necessary boost for the coming months and at the same time underlines the global attraction that emanates from IDS. The result of the event is all the more remarkable because the geopolitical framework conditions are currently a challenge.”

The IDS once again convinced with its high internationality and visitor quality. 60 percent of trade visitors came from abroad. The visit from the EU countries Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, but also Belgium, Romania and Greece was usually strong. The proportion of visitors from Asia, South America, the USA and Canada was again at a high level.

The very good visitor quality is underpinned by the initial results of a visitor survey: According to this, around 80 percent of trade visitors from home and abroad stated that they were involved in their companies’ purchasing and procurement decisions. The visitors rated IDS 2023 accordingly positively: Over 80 percent were very satisfied with the event, 83 percent praised the comprehensive overview of the offer and almost 90 percent would recommend the IDS to their business partners. 84 percent of respondents were also satisfied with the digital platform IDSconnect and the associated additional offers.

Trends: Stringent digital workflow and improved sustainability
On the 40th International Dental Show 2023, two trends were clearly visible: the stringent digital workflow and improved sustainability. So can e.g. B. in the case of digital X-ray, “put upside-down images on your feet” thanks to artificial intelligence, whereby the storage film scanners used are produced CO2-neutral. And in the laboratory, the digital workflow becomes even more effective. For example, two models can now be scanned at once in the extraoral scanner.

Nevertheless, it remains to be noted that due to the bureaucratic hurdles by the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR), companies are forced to contribute many internal resources (personnel, costs, effort) to the approval procedures. If these tied resources were used in the development and research departments, the companies in the dental industry would be able to present even more innovations.

Liveliness and diversity – BZÄK and VDZI praise the trade fair course of IDS 2023
“The IDS has succeeded in a great re-start after the restrictions and requirements of the corona pandemic. The audience and exhibitor support proves the liveliness and diversity of our profession. The Federal Chamber of Dentists as a long-standing partner is pleased to have also been part of the anniversary IDS,” sums up Prof. Dr. Christoph Benz, President of the Federal Chamber of Dentists (BZÄK).

Also for Dominik Kruchen, President of the Association of German Dental Technicians e.V. (VDZI), the IDS 2023 was a complete success: “The International Dental Show after the corona pandemic has shown how important personal contact and professional exchange are to the key players of the dental family at a trade fair. The full exhibition halls show satisfied visitors who enjoy a pandemic-free measurement experience. At this anniversary fair, many dental technicians were again on site to take a close look at the new technologies. They are pioneers of a positive and efficient use of the dental-digital technologies shown. Dental technicians are and remain the reliable expert and service partner for excellent dental technology for the dentist. The strong dental technician craft rightly relies on his well-trained offspring. An expression of this is the new training regulation, which has been in force since August 2022. Also at this IDS, the trainees have once again impressively demonstrated their outstanding qualification at the Gysi Prize.”

The IDS 2023 in numbers
1,788 companies from 60 countries participated in IDS 2023 on a gross exhibition area of 180,000 square meters. Among them were 433 exhibitors from Germany as well as 1,351 exhibitors and 4 additionally represented companies from abroad. The foreign share was 75 percent. Estimates for the last day of the fair included, around 120,000 trade visitors from 162 countries came to the IDS, of which around 60 percent from abroad.

The next IDS – 41. International Dental Show – takes place from the 25th to the 29th March 2025.

Exhibitor votes for IDS 2023:

Simon Campion, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dentsply Sirona
“It was important for us as a company to be directly on site again and to meet our customers in person – because that makes a difference. Under the motto ‘United for better dentistry’, we offered our stand visitors a program with 40 hours of live demonstrations and hands-on training. In addition, we have made clear statements on the topics of digitization and sustainability with our panel discussions. We can positively influence the lives of millions of patients. We can only do this in mutual exchange and through more cooperation.”

Andreas Utz, Managing Director Straumann GmbH Germany
“A successful IDS has come to an end for us. In addition to countless intensive discussions with partners, customers and interested parties, we had many participants who eagerly followed our varied program in the Arena of Excellence or via live streaming. Particularly impressive was the great interest in our innovative digital solutions, such as our new design and collaboration platform smilecloud or Falcon, our new dynamic navigation system for carrying out implant treatments. For us, the presence at the IDS was confirmation and incentive alike: We will continue to continuously invest in our digital solutions to improve the customer experience for both practitioners and patients.”

Josef Richter, Chief Operating Officer & President, GC Europe AG
“The anniversary edition of IDS 2023 went excellently for us. Already on the second day we could notice that our investments in an even larger stand and many live presentations were worthwhile: Numerous visitors informed themselves with us and the decision-makers came to a conclusion. The IDS is particularly important to us, also in 2021 we were present with 160 square meters – despite the extraordinary conditions. Because the personal exchange between industry, users and trade is of enormous importance in our dental family. The skepticism that digital trade will outperform face-to-face fairs resonates in some industries, in 2023 it was noticed that customers and users could hardly wait to immerse themselves in the trade fair.”

Fred Freedman, Vice President Member Services, Dental Trade Alliance DTS
“The IDS Meeting is the largest and best international dental meeting in the world. The 2023 IDS Meeting can be summed up in one sound bite, ,the IDS Meeting is back’. With the enormous crowds and thousands of international distributors and visitors. This is a must for all U.S. manufacturers and companies looking for new international business.”

Peter Bausch, General Manager Dr. Jean Bausch GmbH & Co. KG
“Finally experiencing a large audience at the IDS again after the pandemic years has really inspired me these days. And since my company is celebrating an anniversary in 2023 like the IDS and has been around for 70 years now, it was particularly important to me to offer the international professional audience numerous interactive product presentations. Personal exchange is virtually irreplaceable in the dental family – and this can only be experienced at the world’s leading trade fair, the IDS.”

Steve Burman, Vice-President, Pascal U.S.A.
“Among all dental congresses, the IDS remains the gold standard. No other congress offers us the opportunity to showcase our products and meet with our international partners in one setting, which saves both time and money. IDS allows us to develop new relationships and new business across the globe in addition to rekindling existing relationships and planning new strategies with our current dealers. Support staff at the U.S. pavilion are excellent, organized and always willing to help.”

Dr. Martin Rickert, Chairman, KaVo Dental GmbH
“Overall, a very positive mood can be felt among our customers, partners and the team. We have the feeling that visitors will be happy to come back to the fair to find out about products and novelties. Of course, we are also pleased that we have also been able to record very good results personally as an exhibitor and have so far even completed better than before the pandemic.”

About the IDS
The IDS (International Dental Show) takes place every two years in Cologne and is organized by the GFDI Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Dental-Industrie mbH, the business enterprise of the Association of the German Dental Industry e.V. (VDDI), carried out by Koelnmesse GmbH, Cologne.

The sanitary, heating and air-conditioning technology industry is pointing the way to a more sustainable future: decarbonisation, the use of renewable energies and greater energy efficiency are the order of the day. The leading international trade fair celebrates an impressive comeback and exceeds expectations.

The ISH made an impressive return as a mega industry event. The international sanitary, heating and air-conditioning technology industry made the most of the five days of the fair from 13 to 17 March for intensive networking, to experience innovations and to advance business. 153,734 visitors from 154 countries were more than satisfied and, after a four-year break due to the pandemic, seized the opportunity to find out about the status quo and the future of the heating transition in the building sector and sustainable water supply. Wolfgang Marzin, Chairman of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt: “ISH more than fulfilled the expectations of our customers and came at just the right time to meet the challenges of our time such as climate protection and security of supply. The industry presented tangible solutions for the current political requirements, so that the installing trade, as the strongest visitor group, also benefited.”

The high socio-political relevance of the ISH was underlined by the interest of leading political representatives. At the opening of the trade fair, the German Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Construction Klara Geywitz pleaded for sensible transitional periods, social cushioning and openness to technology when implementing the heating transition. The Prime Minister of the Federal State of Hesse Boris Rhein and Hesse’s Minister of Economics Tarek Al-Wazir also took the opportunity to discuss market-ready solutions with the exhibiting industry. Also Stephanie Wüst, Frankfurt City Councillor and Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Frankfurt, did not miss the opportunity to visit the ISH.

Top issues of the industry in the focus of social discussion

2,025 exhibitors from 54 countries occupied the entire Frankfurt exhibition grounds and showed the latest developments for the heating market, air-conditioning and ventilation technology, intelligent home and building automation as well as modern and sustainable bathroom design and innovative installation technology. As an important component of the energy transition, heat pumps, wood as an energy source and alternative forms of storage were of particular importance. Further topics of interest were the shortage of skilled workers in the sanitary, heating and air-conditioning trade and demographic change, which calls for bathrooms that are suitable for the elderly and those in need of care. Innovative ventilation systems and touch-free fittings, which are gaining in importance in the wake of the pandemic, were on the agenda, as were new ideas for conserving materials and resources in the bathroom sector. In the extensive event programme of the fair, the most important trends were presented and discussed by experts.

Around 154,000 visitors, 44 percent of them from abroad, found their way to the exhibition halls. After Germany, the major visitor countries included the Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland, Belgium, China, Great Britain, Poland, Austria and Turkey. The high level of satisfaction shows that their trip was worthwhile. According to a Messe Frankfurt survey, 94 per cent saw their trade fair visit goals achieved and 96 per cent were satisfied with the range of exhibits. 52 percent of the visitors expect the economic situation in the industry to improve.

【DE】Messe Düsseldorf launches initiative for more sustainable trade fair appearances

  • Customer guide with seven guiding principles serves as initial inspiration for sustainable trade fair appearances.
  • The initiative kicked off with a special stand at EuroShop 2023.

Messe Düsseldorf recently launched an initiative to promote more sustainable trade fair participations. To this end it developed a customer guide that includes measures and ideas on how exhibiting companies can make trade fair appearances more sustainable and conserve resources – across all planning phases. Messe Düsseldorf showed that every step counts when it comes to sustainability at EuroShop 2023. The special stand “THINK SUSTAINABLY – ACT RESPONSIBLY” presented sustainable materials and approaches and was itself an application example of a trade fair appearance that is as sustainable as possible.

Düsseldorf. Show green: for Messe Düsseldorf sustainable action is increasingly becoming the focus of attention. “As a marketplace for new technologies and increasingly also as a platform for sustainable developments, we have a responsibility”, explains Erhard Wienkamp, Managing Director Operative Trade Fair Business of Messe Düsseldorf. The company takes this into account: among other things by supporting offers that contribute to making Messe Düsseldorf’s own events more sustainable. This includes the newly developed customer guide for a more sustainable trade fair participation which the company presented at EuroShop at the beginning of March. The well-known 7 Rs of resource conservation serve as guiding principles here. The measures and ideas presented show how exhibiting companies can act in the most environmentally friendly way possible and thus come closer to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement – one step at a time.

7 R: seven ways to conserve resources

Because when it comes to sustainability and above all climate protection, every step counts. Messe Düsseldorf bundles its know-how in event management and exhibition stand construction in its customer guide for more sustainable trade fair appearances. Whether before, at or after the trade fair: the topic of sustainability is considered in all planning phases of an event in order to keep the ecological footprint as low as possible. This applies to the operation of Messe Düsseldorf itself but also to the activities of exhibiting companies and visitors. Seven guiding principles – the 7 Rs: Reflect, Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle – are intended to support this. Before the trade fair exhibiting companies set the course for sustainability, for example by working with partner companies with experience in sustainable event management or by establishing CSR guidelines. While shell stands are sustainable per se because of their reusability, custom-made constructions can also be realised in an environmentally friendly way if certain points are observed. During the trade fair, the rule is: less is often more. This applies to equipment, decoration, advertising materials and giveaways. Nevertheless, there are exciting, environmentally friendly ways to make the presentation more appealing. After the trade fair, the focus is on the reuse of materials, recycling and an evaluation: where is there potential for improvement? “Together with our stakeholders we are setting out to protect the climate as much as possible at events. And it’s not directly about the perfect solution – even small steps have a positive effect on the carbon footprint”, says Andrea Eppert, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Messe Düsseldorf. “Moreover many measures are not only good for the environment but also for the companies themselves: reduced use of resources and optimised logistics often save effort and costs.”

Special stand at EuroShop as an application example

Messe Düsseldorf is setting a good example. With its energy management system it has reduced electricity consumption at trade fairs by up to 20% compared to 2010 – and heating by almost 30% compared to the year 2000. The exhibition grounds and halls are climate-optimised and run on green electricity. Messe Düsseldorf thus saves up to 5,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. At EuroShop 2023 from 26 February to 2 March Messe Düsseldorf demonstrated that trade fair presentations can be realised in an environmentally friendly manner. The special stand “THINK SUSTAINABLY – ACT RESPONSIBLY”, designed jointly with the industry associations fwd: and IFES and built by Messe Düsseldorf’s Service Alliance, presented sustainable materials and approaches. The stand was part of the “Hot Topic Sustainability” of EuroShop 2023 and itself an application example for a trade fair appearance that is as sustainable as possible. Divided into three zones, the stand reflected the different planning and organisational phases. “The stand concept was based on the idea that sustainability has to be thought about in the whole process right from the start”, says Andrea Eppert, the initiator of the project. “We provided advice on this at the stand, and there were also material samples to touch in order to show what is currently already available.”

Climate partner of the city of Düsseldorf

Sustainability is not a new topic for Messe Düsseldorf. With its Corporate Governance Code it has been committed to sustainable and climate-friendly management since 2011. Based on the “Public Corporate Governance Code for the shareholdings of the state capital of Düsseldorf” it supports responsible corporate management and supervision. In addition to social responsibility this also includes the obligation to continue to improve its own high environmental standards and to sustainably promote the protection of the environment and climate. Messe Düsseldorf has also been a climate partner of the city of Düsseldorf since October 2022 and is thus one of the first signatories of the Düsseldorf Climate Pact. “In this way we underline our corporate responsibility and, together with the other network partners, contribute to supporting the city of Düsseldorf on its way to climate neutrality by 2035”, says Erhard Wienkamp.
